Interesting Materials

2025/07/01 出版

The book titled "Interesting Materials: Graphene and Graphene Oxide" is structured into four chapters. In recent years, a new material called graphene has emerged within the field of advanced nanomaterials and is being extensively explored by scientists and engineers. Graphene is a two-dimensional (2D) allotrope of carbon, in which sp簡-hybridized carbon atoms are covalently bonded in a hexagonal lattice to form a single atomic sheet. It is now understood that graphene is the fundamental building block of other carbon allotropes, such as graphite, single-walled/multi-walled carbon nanotubes, and fullerenes. Over the past five years, chemically modified graphene (CMG) has been studied for a wide range of applications-including polymer composites, energy materials, sensors, paper-like materials, field-effect transistors (FETs), and biomedical uses-thanks to its excellent electrical, mechanical, and thermal properties. The chemical modification of graphene oxide, derived from graphite oxide, has become a promising method for the large-scale production of CMG platelets.

Transition Metal Catalyzed Transformations of Heteroarenes

N,Salvanna  著
2025/07/01 出版

This book will give the information about an efficient method for C-H activation of 1,3,4- oxadiazoles using Pd(OAc)2 as a catalyst and Cu(OAc)2 as an oxidant. The method has been applied for direct coupling of these heteroarenes with benzothiazole and aryl boronic acids to prepare their derivatives. The Pd(OAc)2 catalyzed cross-coupling of oxadiazoles and benzothiazole and also the direct arylation of the former with aryl boronic acid have been reported here for the first time and developed a simple, efficient and improved synthesis of 2-aryl and 2-alkenyl 1,3,4-oxadiazoles using CuO nanoparticles as the recyclable catalyst. And also we have developed for the first time an efficient copper catalyzed method for direct benzylation of 1,3,4-oxadiazoles using N-tosylhydrazones. The application of an easily available and less costly catalyst, high yields and rapid conversion are the advantages of the method. The method is a convenient access to various 1,3,4-oxadiazole derivatives.

Blackened silver and gold production

2025/07/01 出版

In this book, the authors will reveal theoretical mechanism of formation of electrolytic oxygen bubbles during water electrolysis for intensive formation of microdispersed oxygen bubbles on a jewelry silver or gold anode (oxidation), which allowed developing a new electrochemical method of blackening silver or gold. Authors will present the developed on the mechanism basis electrolyzer, which in practice implemented a new electrochemical method of blackening silver or gold. It will be shown that developed electrolyzer made it possible to blacken silver or gold jewelry with a thin, durable and indelible black film, which does not require careful maintenance, like regular silver or gold, retains its magnificent appearance longer and is distinguished by its high strength, bactericidal properties of silver, which help destroy pathogenic bacteria and microbes on the surface of the skin. Black gold jewelry, obtained by the developed method, is uniformly saturated with a thin black film, stylish and wear-resistant and is not expensive. The resulting black gold has a universal fashionable color, combined with white gold in classic jewelry.

The objective is to create new, transparent, synergistic k-Carrageenan/Xanthan gum/Gellan gum (k-C/X/G) hydrogel films with varying weight ratio compositions and investigate how these compositions affect the films' physical characteristics. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and UV were used to examine the films' morphological characteristics and structure. The results of the FT-IR, UV, and SEM analyses demonstrated that k-C, X, and G clearly interacted to produce a novel material. Water vapor permeability (WVP), water contact angle (WCA), moisture content, and other mechanical, thermal, and water barrier characteristics were measured. At 5% weight reduction (T5%), the temperature falls between 64.2 and 121.9 C.

Sustainable Future

2025/07/01 出版

Renewable energy refers to naturally replenishing sources such as sunlight, wind, and water, which are not depleted over time. These sources are increasingly used to generate electricity, heat water, provide cooling, and support transportation. Unlike fossil fuels, which take millions of years to form and exist in limited supply, renewable energy offers a sustainable alternative for long-term energy needs. According to the 2016 REN21 report, global renewable energy consumption grew by 19.2% in 2014 and 23.7% in 2015. In 2015 alone, investments in sustainable energy reached $286 billion, focusing on biofuels, solar, wind, and hydroelectric power. This book explores the role of renewable energy and hydrogen as critical drivers in shaping a sustainable future. It examines their scientific foundations, key infrastructures, technologies, and real-world applications, while also presenting a forward-looking perspective on the global energy transition and its strategic roadmap.

A brief review on synthesis of 2 & 6-substitutedquinazolin-4(3H)-ones

2025/07/01 出版

A comprehensive review was conducted on the significance of 6-substituted quinazolin-4(3H)-ones and 2-substituted phenyl quinazolin-4(3H)-ones in medicinal and polymer chemistry, as well as the synthetic methodologies reported in the literature up to March 2016. The primary objective of our current investigation is to expand the chemical space of quinazolin-4(3H)-ones by introducing a series of biologically active molecules, specifically those featuring 6-aryl/heteroaryl or quinoxalinyl groups, as well as 6-functionalized acyclic substituents on the quinazolinone core. Additionally, we aim to design and synthesize hybrid molecules incorporating both quinazolinone and triazole scaffolds via dipolar cycloaddition reactions. Our synthetic strategy also extensively explores the application of Kumada coupling, Castro-Stephens coupling, and multicomponent reactions.

Palaeontology in Public

Chris,Manias  著
UCL Press 出版
2025/06/28 出版

An excavation of everything from Victorian fossil hunters to Jurassic Park, Chris Manias explores how paleontology's greatest discoveries have always been entangled with popular culture. From towering dinosaurs to early human ancestors, paleontology has long captured the public imagination, yet its scientific standing has often been precarious. Palaeontology in Public studies how paleontology's public presence has shaped both the field itself and broader cultural understandings of science and nature. Through case studies spanning two centuries, this book explores the deep entanglement between vertebrate paleontology and popular culture, from early fossil discoveries to modern cinematic depictions. Dinosaurs naturally take center stage, taking Spinosaurus, Jurassic Park, and Winsor McCay's Gertie the Dinosaur, for instance. However, equally important are the stories of Glyptodons, Mesozoic mammals, and early human fossils like Neanderthals and Australopithecus. The book draws from history, art, literature, archaeology, and science communication to depict how public fascination has fueled scientific discovery while also shaping our collective vision of life's ancient past. A compelling read for historians of science, paleontologists, and those with a special interest in prehistoric creatures, Palaeontology in Public highlights the enduring power of fossils also as cultural icons that continue to inspire and spark debate.
