This Special Issue focuses on the friction characteristics of bearings, carefully compiling 16 cutting-edge research studies. Through a research path combining experiments and simulations, this Special Issue explores the lubrication mechanism, performance optimization, and fault diagnosis of bearings under different working conditions. The papers cover a wide range of dimensions, from theoretical exploration to experimental verification, showcasing the latest developments in the field of bearing lubrication. The research covers various types, such as angular contact ball bearings, gas hydrostatic thrust bearings, cylindrical roller bearings, etc. Through advanced methods such as computational fluid dynamics, artificial neural networks, and mathematical models, the influence of nozzle position, biomimetic composite cavity structure, unbalanced estimation, and other factors on lubricant distribution, load-bearing capacity, and dynamic behavior was analyzed. In addition, attention was also paid to the power loss under oil lubrication, the improvement in friction characteristics and fatigue life by carbon nitrogen co-infiltration treatment, and the lubrication challenges of bearings under special conditions such as vacuum environments and ultra-low temperatures. These research results not only provide a scientific basis for bearing lubrication design but also contribute important findings that promote technological progress and industrial upgrades in related industries. In contrast, water is a clean, low-cost, and recyclable lubricant, but its corrosive properties and low viscosity limit its broader application. To address these limitations, recent research has focused on enhancing water's lubricity through the dispersion of nanomaterials as nanoadditives, aided by eco-friendly surfactants. Water-based nanolubricants have emerged as a promising alternative to conventional oil-based lubricants, including pure oils, oil-in-water emulsions, and oil-based nanolubricants, offering significant benefits for sustainable manufacturing. This Special Issue highlights the latest advancements in experimental and modeling research on novel water-based nanolubricants in tribology and related emerging fields.

Based on different application conditions, many novel gels have been developed. The evaluation of novel gels is crucial since the properties of some polymers can be altered under high temperatures, high salinity, or high CO2 conditions. Furthermore, due to the complexity of the reservoirs, some gels may perform differently in the field than in the lab. In this case, the experiences gained from field application studies are very valuable for future gel developments, evaluations, and applications. As a cost-effective method, numerical simulation is used widely in the oil and gas industry to simulate gel treatment, analyze production data, and predict future production. Studies related to gels for oil and gas field applications can advance the understanding of the gel performance in porous media and large channels.

Human activity recognition (HAR) has been playing an increasingly important role in the digital age. High-quality sensory observations applicable to recognizing users' activities, whether through external or internal (wearable) sensing technology, are inseparable from sensors' sophisticated design and appropriate application. Having been studied and verified adequately, traditional sensors suitable for human activity recognition-such as external sensors for smart homes, optical sensors like cameras for capturing video signals, and bioelectrical and biomechanical sensors for wearable applications-continue to be researched in depth for more effective and efficient usage. Here, the number of specific areas of life facilitated by sensor-based HAR has been continuously increasing. Meanwhile, innovative sensor research for HAR is also very active in the academic community, including brand new types of sensors appropriate for HAR, new designs and applications of the abovementioned traditional sensors, and the introduction of non-traditional HAR-related sensor types into HAR tasks, among other research avenues. The Special Issue Sensors for Human Activity Recognition has received a total of 30 submissions so far, and from these, this new edition will publish 10 academic articles. From hardware to software, from pipelines to applications, from handcrafted features to domain generalization, and from shallow learning to deep and even large language models, the collected literature will provide readers in related fields with state-of-the-art approaches to many challenges in HAR.

All these pollutions resulted in the death of animals and fish.

Pollution caused by the accumulation of soil and water with stable toxic compounds such as chemicals, salts, heavy metals and radioactive materials are among the causes of many diseases that have a profound effect on the health of humans, animals and even plants. The emission of heavy metals in the environment has caused many problems in the world due to the industrialization of society and the expansion of urbanization. In this study, using biocompatible and biodegradable polymeric materials such as chitosan beads and graphene functionalized with amine functional groups as one of the most widely used nanoparticles in chitosan beads adsorption of cadmium metal ions from aqueous solutions. For this purpose, chitosan / graphene nanocomposite granules with weight percentages of 0.5%, 1%, 2% and 5% were prepared using a solution method.

Prevalence and Molecular Characterization of Salmonella and Listeria Species in Poultry Meat and their Products

Master's Thesis from the year 2023 in the subject Chemistry - Food Chemistry, course: Department of Food Hygiene & Control, language: English, abstract: This study investigates the presence of Salmonella spp. and Listeria spp. in broiler chicken meat and products in Menoufia governorate, Egypt. A total of 100 random samples were collected, including 50 fresh chicken cuts (breast and thigh) and 50 frozen breaded half-cooked products (chicken nuggets and chicken burgers). The samples were transported to the Food Hygiene and Control Research Lab, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Sadat City, and analyzed following ISO 6579:2020 for Salmonella spp. and ISO 11290:2017 for Listeria spp. The results revealed Salmonella contamination in 6% of the samples and Listeria contamination in 14%. Among the Salmonella isolates, three serotypes were identified: Salmonella paratyphi A (1%), Salmonella Heidelberg (1%), and Salmonella Typhimurium (4%). Real-time PCR confirmed the presence of the invA gene in all Salmonella-positive samples. This study highlights the significant presence of foodborne pathogens in chicken meat and products, underscoring the need for stringent hygiene practices and regular monitoring to ensure public health safety.

Clay Modification & Their Characterizations

Clay and Modified Clay have been characterized using various techniques, including XRD, SEM, EDAX, and FTIR. CTAB has been used as a surfactant to modify the clay's surface properties and enhance its adsorption capabilities. XRD analysis revealed that the modified clay had a more ordered structure than the raw clay due to the incorporation of CTAB molecules onto its surface. SEM and EDAX analyses demonstrated that the modified clay had a more uniform morphology with a higher surface area, which is attributed to the CTAB modification. FTIR analysis showed the presence of new functional groups on the modified clay surface, indicating the successful incorporation of CTAB. Modification of clay with CTAB has led to significant improvements in its adsorption capabilities, making it a promising material for various environmental and industrial applications. The use of these analytical techniques has provided valuable insights into the physical and chemical changes that occur during the clay modification process. Further studies on the modified clay's performance under different conditions are warranted to fully assess its potential as a sustainable and cost-effective adsorbent material.

Cocrystals of Sulfa Drugs

Sulfa drugs are highly effective antimicrobial agents against bacterial infections. However, they lose their spot in the market against other commercially available drugs owing to their either low solubility and/or permeability. They are either class II or class IV drugs in BCS classification, and therefore, have to be consumed in larger doses for effective medication. Consuming drugs in larger dose may lead to complexities/adverse effects (which are summarized in the introduction), and is also not an ideal business strategy. Though sulfa drugs are replaced in the pharmaceutical market by other active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), they are still useful because of their low cost and efficient action against common bacterial diseases. Therefore, addressing their solubility and permeability issues are still valid. One of the strategies that is generally used to improve the solubility of APIs is by using crystal engineering principles, wherein, solid forms of APIs are formulated as cocrystals with different bio-acceptable coformers.
