The Evolution Delusion
Does the field of evolution differ from other sciences? The author, a reviewer for a major medical journal, scrutinized hundreds of scientific references in evolutionary literature, adopting the same standards used for studies submitted for medical publication. The data show that there are two types of evolution, microevolution and macroevolution, with a clear boundary between them based upon the presence and absence of empirical evidence, respectively. The surprising results show that there is a universal disconnect between the data and the conclusions that claim to show the larger changes of macroevolution. Description and operation of the foggara
In the Saharan environment, water is available, but the vast majority of it is very poorly renewable and also vulnerable to pollution and in particular to the phenomenon of salinization. Water resources in the Saharan regions are most often poorly managed and require rational and integrated management with a view to sustainability. Their exploitation must obey rules specific to the Saharan regions, as in the case of the traditional water catchment and irrigation systems of the South (foggara), which bear witness to remarkable human hydraulic engineering, the organization of which is at the forefront. It should be emphasized that in these regions, water is of paramount importance because it not only erases aridity but also enhances the value of the land and is ultimately considered as a main component of land tenure.

Handbook of Cotton Fiber
Cotton is the most important natural textile fiber, as well as cellulosic textile fiber, in the world, used to produce apparel, home furnishings, and industrial products. Worldwide about 38% of the fiber consumed in 2004 was cotton. Cotton is grown mostly for fiber but it is also a food crop (cottonseed)-the major end uses for cottonseeds are vegetable oil for human consumption; whole seed, meal, and hulls for animal feed; and linters for batting and chemical cellulose. Cotton fibers are seed hairs from plants of the order Malvales, family Malvaceae, tribe Gossypieae, and genus Gossypium. Cotton fiber is one of the most widely used cellulosic fibers in the textile industry because of its excellent properties over the other, especially synthetic ones. Some are availability, lightweight, low density, low cost, biodegradability, air permeability, comfort, etc. Cotton is a warm-weather plant, cultivated in both hemispheres, mostly in North and South America, Asia, Africa, and India (in tropical latitudes).
Bacillus thuringiensis
Bacillus thuringiensis comprise of gram-positive, big rod shaped, spore-forming bacterium. They have unusual property of producing a parasporal protein crystal known as δ-endotoxin or Cry protein, which is found toxic for many serious insect pests. Efforts have been made in many countries to isolate new strains with increased potency against target pest insects having a wider host range. These toxins have not only shown activity against insect member of order Lepidoptera, Diptera, Hymenoptera, Isoptera, Orthoptera and Coleoptera but also against nematodes, mites, lice, aphids and ants. Till date, many δ-endotoxin proteins were found effective against specific insects and surprisingly single strain of Bacillus thuringiensis found to produce one or more type of Cry proteins. An understanding of newly isolated Bacillus thuringiensis, their efficacy, mechanisms and presence of specific genes in them is essential for the future rational use of this Bacterial Insect Pathogen. Given the advancement of technologies over the years, products have been changing their composition so that their disposal was enhanced in inappropriate locations causing the contamination of the environment. Within this context, many Brazilian municipalities still dispose of their waste improperly causing socio-environmental damage and loss of quality of life of the population, thus constituting one of the main problems to be mitigated today.
The use of thematic rooms or ambient rooms
This paper aims to know the operation of thematic rooms/environments of public schools in Boa Vista/RR that in the last 09 years have been implementing these differentiated teaching spaces, check how teachers are using such teaching spaces, still little used resource in public schools in the Capital, in addition to knowing from the experience of students if this model of organization is well accepted and if it brought improvements in the development of classes and consequently in the learning process. For this it was carried out an exploratory field research. Five schools were selected, two elementary schools, two high schools and one school that offers both levels of education, where structured questionnaires were applied to 65 elementary school students, 61 high school students and 11 teachers.

Leaching Kinetics of Valuable Metals
Leaching is a primary extractive operation in hydrometallurgical processing, by which a metal of interest is transferred from naturally occurring minerals into an aqueous solution. In essence, it involves the selective dissolution of valuable minerals, where the ore, concentrate, or matte is brought into contact with an active chemical solution known as a leach solution. Currently, the hydrometallurgical processes have a great number of applications, not only in the mining sector-in particular, for the recovery of precious metals-but also in the environmental sector, for the recovery of toxic metals from wastes of various types, and their reuse as valuable metals, after purification. Therefore, there is an increasing need to develop novel solutions, to implement environmentally sustainable practices in the recovery of these valuable and precious metals, with particular reference to critical metals; those included in materials that are indispensable to modern life and for which an exponential increase in consumption is already a reality, or will be in a short-term perspective. For publication in this Special Issue, consideration has been given to articles that contribute to the optimization of the kinetic conditions of innovative hydrometallurgical processes-economic and of low environmental impact-applied to the recovery of valuable and critical metals.

Artificial Assemblies with Cooperative DNA Recognition
This book presents three types of synthetically cooperative DNA recognizing assemblies, in order to advance the development of programmable DNA-binding pyrrole-imidazole polyamides (PIPs). PIPs represent the best-characterized class of small molecule DNA binders that can be modified to bind with any predetermined DNA sequence and regulate gene expression patterns in a transgene-free and cost-effective manner. PIPs are characterized by their small molecular size, high binding affinity, programmability, sequence selectivity, and moderate cell permeability. In recent years, there have been numerous novel studies on the applications of these biological tools; this research is thoroughly reviewed in the first chapter. There are several critical issues, however, that impede the further broad study of PIPs, which greatly concern the author. For instance, the short PIP version has an excessively hi^10 bp; this significantly decreases cell permeability. Moreover, the conventional binding strategy for PIP design cannot apply to flexible DNA binding-for example, the DNA-binding mode of a transcription factor pair. Antioxidants in Cocoa
This Special Issue comprises articles related to the effects of genotype and processing conditions on the phenolic compound profile and antioxidant activity of cocoa-derived products, isolation and characterization of antioxidant compounds such as polyphenols and melanoidins from cocoa beans, and assessment of the antioxidant, antioxidative stress and anti-inflammatory effects of cocoa beans and cocoa-derived products. The results of these studies show that it is possible to maintain or increase the biological activity of cocoa beans and their derived products (cocoa powder and chocolate) by choosing appropriate processing conditions and cocoa genotype and origin. The papers published in this Special Issue confirm that cocoa beans and cocoa by-products can be considered as an attractive source material for manufacturing of functional foods and nutraceuticals. This is because they contain many bioactive compounds, mainly polyphenols, including flavonoids (proanthocyaninidins, monomeric flavan-3-ols, and anthocyanins) and phenolic acids, as well as melanoidins. Finally, the in vitro and in vivo studies demonstrate the importance of cocoa antioxidants for the prevention of oxidative stress and inflammation.
Zika Virus and Host Interactions
Zika virus (ZIKV), one of the flavivirus family members transmitted by mosquitos, was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern by the WHO in February 2016 because of clusters of newborn microcephaly cases and other neurological disorders in Brazil. Most ZIKV infections result in a self-limited flu-like febrile disease, however, if contracted during pregnancy, the virus can also infect fetuses and cause a spectrum of birth defects known as congenital Zika syndrome. To date, no vaccines or antiviral drugs are licensed for ZIKV, and the virus has spread and become endemic to many tropical and sub-tropical countries. Vividness, Consciousness, and Mental Imagery
Today in many studies, mental images are still either treated as conscious by definition, or as empirical operations implicit to completing some type of task, such as the measurement of reaction time in mental rotation, an underlying mental image is assumed, but there is no direct determination of whether it is conscious or not. The vividness of mental images is a potentially helpful construct which may be suitable, as it may correspond to consciousness or aspects of the consciousness of images. In this context, a complicating factor seems to be the surprising variety in what is meant by the term vividness or how it is used or theorized.
