Climate Hope

In recent years, the rapid development of the national economy has become inseparable from the influence of traditional fossil energy, such as coal, oil and natural gas. In this regard, it is important to break through the key bottlenecks of pollutants, carbon emissions and energy grade loss caused by the fossil energy utilization mode and build a clean and low-carbon energy utilization system, based on solar energy, wind energy, geothermal energy, etc., to achieve the goal of environmental protection and energy technology revolution. Clean and low-carbon energy research has achieved major successes in the past decade and is expected to drive the development of other renewable energy sources. Rewilding the Urban Frontier
More so than other ecosystems, urban rivers typify our evolving relationship with nature. Once a necessity for the development of civilization, by the twentieth century America's rivers became neglected and abused, channelized, dammed, and filled with sewage and toxic waste. While acknowledging the profound impact our species has had on the natural world, and on rivers in particular, Rewilding the Urban Frontier argues that the Anthropocene presents opportunities for rethinking our relationship to the natural world and potentially healing the age-old rift between humans and nature. Reduced Ice Age Prediction Models
In this study, we explore the effectiveness of particle-filter algorithms in discerning between various differential equation (DE) models aimed at explaining the dynamics of ice age transitions. These models, which capture glacier formation and retreat mechanisms, incorporate parameters governing global CO2 levels, glacial ice volume, and ocean temperature, along with deterministic forcings from long-term variations in solar energy input. Employing a particle-filter method, we integrate historical CO2 data to estimate model parameters and states, considering both fixed and unknown parameters, including stochastic forcing terms. Our investigation involves validating the numerical model and benchmarking the particle filter's performance against synthetic CO2 data, followed by its application to actual CO2 data for model comparison. While all models demonstrated similar predictive capabilities concerning CO2 data, incorporating insolation forcing significantly improved predictions of ice volume proxy data across models. However, despite these enhancements, the particle filter method's sensitivity proved insufficient to differentiate effectively between the proposed ice age DE models, echoing previous findings
Beyond Drainage Channels
Periglacial slope deposits also known as cover beds (CB) are an accepted phenomenon in Europe. KLEBER AND TERHORST (2013b) defined: "CBs are deposits that formed by unconcentrated dislocation processes chiefly from upslope materials, but that may contain admixed eolian matter. They cover undifferentiated slopes to a large extent or even completely rather than being restricted to drainage ways, linear discharges, or local failures. CBs typically consist of several layers separated by disconformities." In Europe, CB consist of an upper layer ("Hauptlage", LH), an intermediate layer ("Mittellage", LM) and a basal layer ("Basislage", LB). According to KLEBER AND TERHORST (2013a) neither do all these types occur outside of Europe, nor are the CBs tied to the previous glaciation alone. In New Zealand the same term does not comply with the European definition but has a more generic meaning (RAESIDE; 1964) . Nonetheless, CBs are being studied in Europe, Asia and Australia, whereas in the USA the definition has not yet been established (H?LLE ET AL. 2009; KLEBER 1997; WAROSZEWSKI ET AL. 2020).

New Tools or Trends for Large-Scale Mapping and 3D Modelling
Topographic surveys are used to capture the shape of the world and represent it as a topographic map or three-dimensional (3D) model. Large-scale topographic maps are essential for (a) the design and construction of infrastructure in an urban environment, (b) 3D/city modeling, and (c) general-purpose mapping. Topographic surveys are normally carried out with traditional surveying, photogrammetry, LiDAR/laser scanning, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and satellite remote sensing. Remote sensing tools have shown their efficacy in exploring natural, human, and social systems at unprecedented resolutions. These tools have been used for acquiring the spatial data needed for mapping since the early 1970s, because they are rapid, cost-effective, and reliable. Now, the demand for geospatial data has increased exponentially, coupled with the need for high-quality large-scale maps and 3D models. The recent developments in remote sensing cameras have opened the door for the high-quality and large-scale mapping of our environment, 3D/city modeling, and many useful applications, such as infrastructure monitoring, crack measurement, etc. These include depth (stereo) cameras, fine-resolution satellite sensors, and state-of-the-art cameras for terrestrial photogrammetric applications.

Determinants of Home Delivery
In Senegal, according to data from the Enqu礙te D矇mographique et de Sant矇 version 2019 (EDS - 2019) published by the Agence Nationale de la Statistique et de la D矇mographie (ANSD), the proportion of women who used a health institution during childbirth rose from 62% in 2005 to 80% in 2019. In the Niakhar observatory, healthcare use during pregnancy and childbirth has evolved fairly slowly over time. In the Niakhar SSDS, the rate of healthcare use during childbirth was 11% between 1988 and 1992, 16% between 1998 and 2002, 34% between 2008 and 2012, and 57% in 2017, despite an acceptable supply of care, but with a very marked disparity between geographical units. In fact, the rate of home births in the Niakhar observatory is lower than at national level. This study is cross-sectional, descriptive and explanatory, with the aim of identifying the factors that explain non-use of medical assistance in childbirth in the Niakhar observatory area.

The municipality of Dombe Grande has valuable natural, historical, monumental and cultural tourism resources that need to be properly identified, classified and systematized for subsequent strategic planning. From this perspective, tourism can become one of the main strategic axes for local development and play an important role in the process of diversifying the local economy, as tourism in the town can perfectly complement the predominant agricultural sector in the area. This proposal aims to make the most of the attractive resources identified. We want to bring to the attention of readers the rich culture: traditions, habits, customs and mystique of the Mundombe people, located in the Dombe Grande commune, Benguela province, so that all this heritage (tourist attractions) can be placed in the tourism network of Angola, Africa and internationally.
From Blasting to Grinding
Comminution is an essential part of mineral processing which involves the breakage of ore to achieve size reduction. Its aim is to increase the likelihood of separation and liberation of valuable minerals from gangue in subsequent processing stages (Napier-Munn et al., 1996; Fuerstenau, 2003; Wills and Napier-Munn, 2015). Ore breakage in comminution occurs in three forms, namely; blasting, crushing and grinding (Kapur et al., 1997; Le Pham, 2011; Yahyaei et al., 2016). During blasting, ore breakage occurs by means of explosive devices. In crushing, it occurs via mechanical compression of ore against hard surfaces (Unland and Szczelina, 2004). In the case of grinding, ore breakage takes places through a combination of two or more of: impact (ores drop against a rigid body or media drop against ores), abrasion (ores of similar size shear against each other) and attrition (relatively big ores grind smaller materials) (Austin, 2002; Le Pham, 2011; Wills and Napier-Munn, 2015). Comminution is well known to be highly energy-intensive. Previous studies have shown that comminution typically accounts for 50% of the energy consumption in a mineral processing circuit, and globally comminution activity accounts for about 0.2% of the world's electricity supply (Napier-Munn et al., 1999; Ballantyne and Powell, 2014). In addition, the process has been shown to be inefficient, in that a small fraction of the energy supplied is directly utilised for rock breakage (Tromas, 2008). The remaining energy is either lost as heat (Radziszewski, 2013), carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions (Norgate and Haque, 2010) or absorbed by the comminution equipment causing wear and degradation (Weerasekara et al., 2013).

Report on the water quality monitoring network in 2023
This report highlights the crucial importance of monitoring water quality in Burkina Faso, due to multiple sources of pollution such as industrial discharges, artisanal mining and the intensive use of chemical fertilizers in agriculture. These factors compromise the physico-chemical quality of the water, making it unsuitable for a variety of uses. Since 1992, a national water quality monitoring network, initially consisting of 32 points, has been in place, but has proved insufficient in the face of increasing pollution. In 2018, an expansion of the network to 80 sites was undertaken, but security constraints have prevented some points from being monitored in 2023. The report highlights the difficulties associated with data collection, processing and use, while identifying the needs to ensure adequate monitoring of raw water quality at national as well as cross-border level.

CO2 Capture and Sequestration
CO2 capture and sequestration (CCS) technologies aim to capture carbon dioxide (CO2) from CO2 sources, separate the CO2, and store it in suitable media. CO2 can be captured using various technologies, including absorption, adsorption, cryogenic processes, and membrane gas separation. Therefore, accurate selection, design, modelling, and optimisation of the processes for CO2 capture and the tuning of the material properties are essential. There are different methods used for CO2 sequestration, e.g., (i) geological sequestration, which injects different phases of CO2 into the subsurface; (ii) oceanic storage, which dissolves CO2 into an ocean at different depths; (iii) the solid-phase reaction of CO2 with metal oxides to produce stable carbonates with no risk of CO2 release to the atmosphere; etc. The flow, transport, and reaction of CO2 during CCS and other related matters are also essential. To address these points, a Special Issue of Clean Technol.and a reprint with all published papers have been organized which highlight the recent trends and innovative developments in CCS. In particular, these papers highlight the following issues: Socio-political issues related to CCS development and deployment; Fundamental technical issues concerning the development and deployment of CCS; The synthesis of value-added chemicals using captured CO2 in CCS; Applications of mathematical modelling for the development of CCS. The progress of science and technology and intensive land usage have promoted the rapid development of modern agriculture. Meanwhile, however, modern agriculture has caused global ecological and environmental problems due to its consumption of large amounts of resources and energy.
