Nature Therapy

Adia,Shanee  著
2025/07/30 出版

Written by trauma-informed canine behavior consultant Adia Shanee, this powerful, interactive guide explores how nature-based enrichment can help dogs re-regulate, rebuild trust, and rediscover their instincts-without force, fear, or overwhelm. With stories from the field, grounded science, and practical guidance, Adia introduces a new standard of care rooted in emotional intelligence and real relationship in this experiential toolkit. This is about showing up differently-for the dog in front of you, for the relationship you're building, and for the chance to meet their needs the best we can with what we have. From creating plant-based "pluffle mats" to facilitating stillness through Whisper Walks, Nature Therapy offers accessible tools that meet dogs where they are-especially those who are misunderstood, shut down, or overstimulated by modern life. Designed for active engagement, this book is for anyone who's ever looked at their dog and thought, "There has to be a better way." Whether you're a first-time guardian, seasoned professional, or rescue worker, Nature Therapy will change how you see behavior-and how you show up for the dog in front of you. Because behavior isn't the enemy. It's the invitation.

Data Mining Atmospheric/Oceanic Parameters in the Design of a Long-Range Nephelometric Forecast Tool

2025/07/30 出版

The Department of Defense calls for long-range forecasts to aid in the planning of operations. The goal of this research was to explore the feasibility of predicting, one month in advance, the total monthly cloud cover over the country of Afghanistan. In an attempt to reach this goal, the following objectives were achieved: 1) climatological synoptic study of Afghanistan; 2) survey of Real Time Nephanalysis, outgoing longwave radiation (OLR), and surface observational data; 3) examination of teleconnection indices and sea surface temperatures; 4) standard statistical analysis for prediction; and 5) classification tree analysis (CART). In addition, due to current world events, CART analysis was also applied over the country of Iraq (see Appendix C). Data were examined using standard statistical regression techniques, including linear and multiple linear regression, and then CART analysis was used for exploring possible concealed predictive structures. Standard statistics showed a strong negative correlation between monthly average OLR and surface observational total cloud cover from the fall through spring months. However, linear regression revealed very weak relationships between the predictor and predictand variables. As well, CART results contained misclassification rates that exceeded established thresholds for operational use. Further studies using CART for atmospheric science applications should be pursued. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Addressing the Global Fresh Water Crisis Before the Wave Crashes

2025/07/30 出版

Threats to national security reach far beyond what has traditionally been viewed as the risk of state-on-state conflict. The US National Security Strategy focuses on the threats of global terrorism, regional conflicts, and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, but fails to address the root causes of these threats and therefore lacks the foresight to mitigate substantive risks before they manifest as destructive forces. Environmental degradation and resource shortfalls, most notably access to fresh water, brought on by a burgeoning global population threaten to foster social unrest, destabilize regions, and negatively impact international commerce. The global fresh water crisis is a threat to US national security -- a threat the United States can address proactively. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Exploration of Teleconnection Indices for Long-Range Seasonal Temperature Forecasts

2025/07/30 出版

The Air Force Combat Climatology Center (AFCCC) is continually tasked to provide temperature and other long-range seasonal forecasts for locations at which Department of Defense (DoD) personnel are performing long-range exercises and real-world mission planning support. DoD needs long-range forecasts to estimate how much fuel is necessary to keep energy production, purchases and operations at the proper levels to accommodate all the energy needs on their installations and within their worldwide theaters of operation. Currently, the best long-range temperature forecasts the weather community has for worldwide locations use either climatological standard normals or simple frequency distributions of occurrences. This study creates a stepping-stone toward the solution of long-range temperature forecasting by finding a process to predict more accurate temperatures than those forecasts obtained using climatological standard normals or simple frequency distributions of occurrences. This same solution is also highly sought after by many non-DoD users as well. Northern Hemispheric teleconnection indices, created by rotated principle component analysis (RPCA), and the standardized Southern Oscillation index are statistically compared to Heating Degree Days (HDDs) and Cooling Degree Days (CDDs) at 14 U.S. locations. HDDs and CDDs were summed over three-month periods to compute seasonal summations. Teleconnection indices found to be leading modes, using RPCA, in a particular month are compared to the HDD/CDD summations of the following three months in order to create predictive models. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Comparison of a Conceptual Model and Objective Indicators of Extratropical Transition in the Western North Pacific

2025/07/30 出版

The primary purpose of this research is to provide guidance to forecasters from the Joint (Air Force/Navy) Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) in Pearl Harbor to use in differentiating between the stages of extratropical transition (ET) of tropical cyclones (TCs). Not only is ET relevant to the Department of Defense, since JTWC stops providing TC warnings once they have undergone ET, but it is also applicable to the meteorological community since there currently "is no commonly accepted definition of ET" (Jones et al. 2003). This research compares the results of a conceptual model of ET using subjective satellite analysis with the results of objective indicators based on Navy Operational Global Atmospheric Prediction System (NOGAPS) model analyses. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Urban Regeneration and Local Development

Mdpi AG 出版
2025/07/30 出版

In recent years, we have witnessed an increasing number of strategic urban regeneration interventions. Contemporary architectures, new solutions for urban organization, new models of intervention, support for innovative activities within regenerated neighbourhoods, and the formation of new public-private and non-profit partnerships are common features of most recurring regeneration programs. However, the most innovative aspect of recent regeneration processes is the goal of social integration, citizenship involvement, and social capacity building-objectives that call for new innovative approaches. It is time for a preliminary assessment of these processes to understand how they really affect local development: Do they really impact local communities? In the midterm, can we recognize real improvements in the quality of life in these regenerated neighbourhoods? Are gentrification, real estate market trends, and eviction dynamics really under control? What about social relations: Have they truly improved towards better cohesion? Have they triggered the growth of insurgent economies? Behind the glass facades, glittering promenades, and attractive public spaces, can we find a more integrated community and a more just urban organization? This Special Issue aims to explore and assess regeneration attempts around the world, analyze current trends, and propose recommendations for reshaping regeneration approaches to achieve a deeper social and economic impact, far beyond the restoration of built-up and declining parts of the city.

Geoenvironmental Analysis of Urban Expansion in the Southern Vector of Belo Horizonte

The aim of this study was to present a characterization of the physical aspects of the Estrangulado stream basin, an area between the MG-030 highway and Vale S/A's ?guas Claras Mine, a region in the municipality of Nova Lima/MG that has been under pressure from the urban expansion of the southern vector of Belo Horizonte/MG. The research proposed an assessment of the physical environment in the face of the urban transformations that have taken place in the region. Through this assessment, the conditions of the physical environment were verified to support the proposed land use established by the municipality's existing urban planning legislation. An erosion process in the study area was then monitored in order to diagnose its evolution. Specialized bibliographical research was used as a method to create an overview of the physical characteristics of the region, as well as field visits to better detail the information obtained. This was followed by descriptive research, in which the characteristics obtained from the physical environment were associated with proposals for occupying the area.
