Understanding Relativity

Leo,Sartori  著
Ingram 出版
2022/05/21 出版

Nonspecialists with no prior knowledge of physics and only reasonable proficiency with algebra can now understand Einstein's special theory of relativity. Effectively diagrammed and with an emphasis on logical structure, Leo Sartori's rigorous but simple presentation will guide interested readers through concepts of relative time and relative space.Sartori covers general relativity and cosmology, but focuses on Einstein's theory. He tracks its history and implications. He explores illuminating paradoxes, including the famous twin paradox, the "pole-in-the-barn" paradox, and the Loedel diagram, which is an accessible, graphic approach to relativity. Students of the history and philosophy of science will welcome this concise introduction to the central concept of modern physics.

Spectrum sensing techniques in cognitive radio

Ingram 出版
2022/05/21 出版

Document from the year 2022 in the subject Physics - Technical Physics, grade: A, language: English, abstract: Cognitive Radio offers non-interfering use of spectrum which requires three main tasks: Spectrum Sensing, Spectrum Analysis and Spectrum Allocation. The aim of this study is to focus on spectrum sensing in cognitive radio which is a recently introduced technology in order to increase the spectrum efficiency. Increasing efficiency of the spectrum usage is an urgent need as the number of wireless users is increasing rapidly. Cognitive radio arises to be a good solution to spectral crowding problem by introducing the opportunistic usage of frequency bands that are not heavily occupied by licensed users (Primary user) since they cannot be utilized by users other (Secondary user) than the license owners at the moment. Cognitive radio can sense the spectrum and detect the idle frequency bands, thus secondary users can be allocated in those bands when primary users do not use those in order to avoid any interference to primary user by secondary users. Several Spectrum Sensing Methods proposed in the literature are theoretically analyzed and interpreted in the sense of advantages and drawbacks.

Universe Without Things

Springer 出版
2022/05/19 出版

Physics is written in the language of mathematics, and its findings are based on thousands of experiments. But what kind of picture does physics paint of the world? What do theories like relativity or quantum mechanics contribute to it? How complete is this picture? This book sheds light on how the "things" these theories are about relate to our everyday things, and points out what questions remain unanswered and what problems are involved. In this book, the author presents how physics works, what it can and cannot do. In doing so, he describes the surprising answers that physics provides to many of our questions about the nature of "things" and the world; answers that present many a challenge to our intuition.Jan-Markus Schwindt studied physics and mathematics in Heidelberg and Cambridge and received his PhD in theoretical physics in Heidelberg. He then worked for four years in research and teaching as a research associate at the Universities of Mainz and Heidelberg with research interests in cosmology and quantum gravity.

Teaching Students With Special Needs in Inclusive Settings + What Every Teacher Should Kno

Ingram 出版
2022/05/18 出版

Gurdjieff clearly wanted his pupils to try to understand Objective Science. He left two accounts of it. One adorns the pages of In Search of the Miraculous; the other merges itself into the text of Beelzebub's Tales to His Grandson. He described its study as a necessity - one of five obligolnian strivings. And yet, most books about The Work steer clear of the topic. This book moves in the opposite direction. It grasps the nettle-exploring the principles of Objective Science and explaining why it cannot be reconciled with Modern Science in its current form. It then proceeds to provide a clear description of the fundamentals of Objective Science: What are its methods? What does the Ray of Creation signify or imply? What are the Hydrogens and how are they derived? What are the implications of the Trogoautoegocrat? How are the elements formed? How does evolution happen? What is plasma and what is its role in the life of the whole cosmos? How do new planets form? Is the Moon really growing? Is the Earth itself growing? What is Man's place in the cosmos and how can we use the Step Diagram (see the front cover) to understand that? Is humanity really food for the Moon? If so, how? The author accompanies you on a journey of revelation. It's an intellectual adventure and a wild conceptual ride.

Digital Physics

2022/05/18 出版

In this important book, Dr. Ediho Lokanga tells us that consciousness is primary and nonlocal, the source and the origin of everything that exists. It is a creative force that shapes the universe, including matter. It seems likely that everything in the universe is shaped by nonlocal consciousness. We live in a field or sea of consciousness, called a unified field of consciousness, where our consciousness exists both in our bodies and in this unified field. It is no longer possible to deny consciousness its causal role. The author establishes its central role in this book. The book also answers several fundamental questions regarding our physical world and provides a comprehensive and detailed account and deeper insights into the nature of physics. This investigation ultimately leads to the discovery of a unique underlying field called consciousness-this underlying field is an intelligent information system running the universe.

Apollo 11

Ingram 出版
2022/05/16 出版

This is a must read for anyone interested in aerospace history. The book also contains some commentary regarding the expectations of that time, my disappointment in the depth of our achievements and the current lack of interest by many. It culminates in our week-long trip to cape kennedy for the apollo 11 launch. As the first college students fully accredited by nasa, we represented the college press wire network which provided stories to 1200 campus newspapers. There were no delusions regarding the dangers of manned space travel, but they were brought home on january 27, 1967, when all three astronauts were killed by a fire that ignited in the cabin during a launch rehearsal. To this day, there is still debate over what ignited the fire, but the disaster made clear that the modules being used by nasa had a series of fatal flaws. In the decades after the apollo program, american space shuttles flew over 130 missions and successfully completed over 98% of them, but unfortunately, the two most famous missions were the ones that ended tragically aboard the challenger and columbia. The book also contains some commentary regarding the expectations of that time, my disappointment in the depth of our achievements and the current lack of interest by many.

Power Quality Measurement and Analysis Using Higher-Order Statistics

Ingram 出版
2022/05/10 出版

POWER QUALITY MEASUREMENT AND ANALYSIS USING HIGHER-ORDER STATISTICS Help protect your network with this important reference work on cyber security Power quality (PQ) in electrotechnical systems refers to a set of characteristics related to the movement of energy and the delivery of voltage to consumers in the highest standard. As electricity networks change and adapt to new technologies and concepts of energy within a future Smart Grid, it has become clear that standardized methods by which stability and accuracy of electrical service along a network are currently measured are no longer enough to solve inherent issues in service and ensure established requirements are met. Power Quality Measurement and Analysis using Higher-Order Statistics reflects the latest information related to PQ (Power Quality) analysis solutions, particularly that related to the implementation of new quality indices in the domain of higher-order statistics (HOS). The authors--noted experts on the topic--carefully address the detection of PQ problems from two perspectives: the detection of specific events that occur on networks in isolation and continuous monitoring detection. In doing so, the authors demonstrate the use of HOS in current waveform models, enabling the characterization of different power circuit topologies and loads. This book thereby expertly explores the benefits of using HOS, bridging the gap between signal processing and power, and building a better understanding for readers. Power Quality Measurement and Analysis using Higher-Order Statistics readers will also find: A unique methodology for PQ analysis through its combination of HOS and PQ monitoring A proposal for new measurement solutions that can be easily implemented into modern instrumentationThe detection of PQ problems from multiple perspectives The use of HOS in current waveform models, which enables the characterization of different power circuit topologies and loads Pitched at a specialized level, Power Quality Measurement and Analysis is an essential reference for researchers, academics, and industry insiders, as well as advanced students in this field.

Gravity's Time

Ingram 出版
2022/05/07 出版

This book is unique and exceptional in dealing with the notion of physical time rigorously, both logically and empirically. The central theme is the intimate relation between physical time and cosmic gravity. It establishes and explains, in an accessible manner, the one crucial physical fact that has been missed in the development of modern physics--that the enormous gravity of the matter and energy in the Universe is the controller and cause of the relativistic time. The material in the book is accurate and free of the ambiguities in the discussion of time and its modifications (dilation), synchronization of clocks, and simultaneity. The contents go beyond the current theories of relativity that fail to incorporate the cosmic gravity in their structure. The discussion of clocks in satellite navigational systems (like the GPS) is the most complete and accurate. The book offers several new insights, and it is the only available treatise on the complete physical truth about time. The contents are addressed to a wide range of readers, from general readers and students to experienced researchers, and will also appeal well to philosophers and historians of physics. This book has the enabling quality to deal with difficult questions about physical time, with unprecedented clarity and without paradoxes.

Order, Disorder and Criticality: Advanced Problems of Phase Transition Theory - Volume 7

Ingram 出版
2022/05/06 出版

This book is the seventh volume of review chapters on advanced problems of phase transitions and critical phenomena, the former six volumes appeared in 2004, 2007, 2012, 2015, 2018, and 2020. The aim of the book is to provide reviews in those aspects of criticality and related subjects that are currently attracting much attention due to essential new contributions. The book consists of five chapters. They discuss criticality of complex systems, where the new, emergent properties appear via collective behaviour of simple elements as well as historical aspects of studies in the field of critical phenomena. Since all complex systems involve cooperative behaviour between many interconnected components, the field of phase transitions and critical phenomena provides a very natural conceptual and methodological framework for their study. As the first six volumes, this book is based on the review lectures that were given in Lviv (Ukraine) at the "Ising lectures" - a traditional annual workshop on complex systems, phase transitions and critical phenomena which aims to bring together experts in these fields with university students and those who are interested in the subject.

Electrical Properties of Model Lipid Membranes

Ingram 出版
2022/05/06 出版

Biological membranes are essential components of the living systems and processes occurring with their participation are related mainly to electric phenomena, such as signal transduction, the existence of membrane potentials, and transport through the membrane. It is well known that the universal model of the cell membrane structure is the lipid bilayer, which constitutes the environment for integral and surface membrane proteins. Thus, much attention has been given to the study of the organization and properties of these structures concerning both experimental and theoretical aspects. As systematic examinations are impeded by the complexity of the natural membranes, the best approach to conducting detailed physical and chemical studies of biological membranes is to use simplified well-defined model lipid membranes. Among the most commonly used are liposomes, planar lipid membranes, membranes on solid substrates, and lipid monolayers on the free surface.Studies of the electrical properties of model lipid membranes have been carried out for many years. However, there are still many issues that have not been verified experimentally and for which the existing results are incomplete or inconsistent. Therefore, the main objective of this book was to collect recent scientific and review articles on the electrical properties of model lipid membranes. This objective has been successfully achieved, for which I express heartfelt appreciation to all authors and reviewers for their excellent contributions.

More Than the Sum of the Parts

Helmut,Satz  著
Ingram 出版
2022/05/03 出版

From physics to information theory and cosmology, from the structure of animal societies to the linguistic analysis of human writing, systems consisting of many interacting constituents often show a collective behaviour not predictable from the interaction of the individual constituents. In More than the Sum of the Parts, Helmut Satz addresses different forms of this complex behaviour, which have been thoroughly investigated only in the past decades. Although these studies originate in physics, the behaviour is found to be universal, ranging from the structure of the early universe to the formation of flocks of birds, and to the frequency of words in literary texts. Complexity is thus becoming an increasingly important interdisciplinary field for future scientific research. In a conceptual and non-technical way, Satz opens up this exciting field for a general readership and those studying any field of the natural sciences.

The Reldas Theory of Matter

Robin,Sadler  著
2022/05/03 出版

A concept is described for the creation of matter from energy based on an entity I have named a forcicle, an entity of energy, which must form the basis for a theory for everything. It is a building block for matter but will not really be understood until a method has been discovered for studying forces and forcicles, the basic building blocks of life. Only then will it be possible to fill in the blanks to create a real theory for everything. This theory describes one possible format which seems to encompass everything necessary, not only for the creation of matter and life but also for matter itself to be recycled indefinitely. It also described what light, heat and frequency could be. This may or may not be close to the truth but if it makes people think, then this document will have served its purpose.

The Science of Can and Can't

Ingram 出版
2022/04/26 出版

A luminous guide to how the radical new science of counterfactuals can reveal that the scope of the universe is greater, and more beautiful, than we ever imagined There is a vast class of things that science has so far almost entirely neglected. They are central to the understanding of physical reality both at an everyday level and at the level of the most fundamental phenomena in physics, yet have traditionally been assumed to be impossible to incorporate into fundamental scientific explanations. They are facts not about what is (the actual) but about what could be (counterfactuals). According to physicist Chiara Marletto, laws about things being possible or impossible may generate an alternative way of providing explanations. This fascinating, far-reaching approach holds promise for revolutionizing the way fundamental physics is formulated and for providing essential tools to face existing technological challenges--from delivering the next generation of information-processing devices beyond the universal quantum computer to designing AIs. Each chapter in the book delineates how an existing vexed open problem in science can be solved by this radically different approach and it is augmented by short fictional stories that explicate the main point of the chapter. As Marletto demonstrates, contemplating what is possible can give us a more complete and hopeful picture of the physical world.

2022/04/25 出版

The book describes in a very unconventional way the role of man as an observer in the universe that surrounds us. Many physical phenomena are described from an unfamiliar point of view. These include wave-particle duality of light, the speed of light, why are space and time relative, what does reality mean, what are reference systems, what do the Lorentz transformations link, without necessarily having to deal with mathematics. The book should be of interest to anyone who considers himself an observer. It doesn't matter what he wants to watch. It is about the principles that arise when observing. What can generally be regarded as secured. Unfortunately, that's not much, because in order to draw conclusions from what has been secured, you have to make assumptions. These do not have to be correct and results that are logically incompatible with these assumptions are excluded from the outset by these assumptions. If one is willing to break away from some of these assumptions, possible solutions could arise for puzzling observations in the sky.

Advanced Topics in Quantum Field Theory

Ingram 出版
2022/04/23 出版

Quantum field theory is the basis of our modern description of physical phenomena at the fundamental level. This systematic and comprehensive text emphasizes nonperturbative phenomena and supersymmetry. It includes a thorough discussion of various phases of gauge theories, extended objects and their quantization, and global supersymmetry from a modern perspective. This Second Edition is revised to include topics developed in the last decade, including higher-form global symmetries and their applications, anomalies in supersymmetric theories beyond Ferrara-Zumino, and non-Abelian supersymmetric vortex strings. A new final part is added, presenting more than 90 problems with detailed solutions, allowing students to check their understanding of the acquired knowledge and providing extra details to supplement the main text descriptions. This an indispensable book for graduate students and researchers in theoretical physics.

Is Anybody out There?

W H,Collier  著
AuthorHouse 出版
2022/04/21 出版

Are we alone? Or is the universe teeming with intelligent life? Can we expect extraterrestrial civilizations to be common? Occasional? Rare? In this wide-ranging Assessment, historian/writer W. H. Collier explores the probabilities of the existence of extraterrestrial, technological life based on the latest scientific findings. Not content with the well-worn assertion that life must be common because there are so many stars and planets, Collier undertakes a thorough analysis of just what it would take for technological societies to arise on other planets. From quantifying the number of habitable planets, to examining the genesis and development of life on this planet, to grappling with the emergence of intelligence in our own species, Collier leaves no stone unturned. The number of scientific topics addressed may appear daunting, but the author's non-technical style makes this work imminently readable. Though written for the lay reader, the findings in this Assessment may well open the eyes of many in the scientific community.

A Student's Guide to Laplace Transforms

Ingram 出版
2022/04/20 出版

The Laplace transform is a useful mathematical tool encountered by students of physics, engineering, and applied mathematics, within a wide variety of important applications in mechanics, electronics, thermodynamics and more. However, students often struggle with the rationale behind these transforms, and the physical meaning of the transform results. Using the same approach that has proven highly popular in his other Student's Guides, Professor Fleisch addresses the topics that his students have found most troublesome; providing a detailed and accessible description of Laplace transforms and how they relate to Fourier and Z-transforms. Written in plain language and including numerous, fully worked examples. The book is accompanied by a website containing a rich set of freely available supporting materials, including interactive solutions for every problem in the text, and a series of podcasts in which the author explains the important concepts, equations, and graphs of every section of the book.
