The Internet Of Minds (IOM). An Essay.
"In 2015, the basic principle of flying a plane using a surgically implanted microchip was demonstrated, but continued development of the brain-computer interface (BCI) has created a two-way connection enabling the pilot to not only send commands to the craft but also to receive signals."DARPAThe immediate goal to that branch of research which is carried out in the framework of Darpa (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency)in the USA, is to be used to allow crippled people to connect to artificial limbs (arms, legs) and control them in order to for example start walking without the need of any external means such as a wheelchair. But even for those in the team of research their final goals are much larger and comprehensive and diverse: -Creating the super-soldier that can activate weapon systems with his bare thoughts.-Creating the super-engineer that without moving a limb of his physical body can activate virtually any system connected to the internet for example by means of the Internet Of Things. My goal in this essay is to go a step further and assume that the technology of the connection between the human brain and microchips and though them to everything else is reachable relatively in the near future and affordable so that nearly everybody could be safely connected to a microchip. What could be then done with this emerging technology? To connect almost everybody to the INTERNET OF MINDS(IOM).Using a new concept that borrows from that of the Internet of Things.I will discuss what could be done with the IOM and some positive and negative implications of the general adoption of the technology.

Swarm Systems in Art and Architecture
This book presents the recent computational developments inspired by swarms in art known as swarm art and discusses applying swarm intelligence concepts in architecture. Non-human art is a great leap in the evolution of contemporary art, removing the requirement of an artist's production from the creative process. Furthermore, it is a critical declaration in opposition to the anthropomorphic vision which is so destructive for all other life forms and the planet's ecology. When accepted and integrated into human culture, non-human art done by artificial systems or machines boosts creativity and stimulates innovative fusions. We analyze 120 swarm systems with unique and diverse conceptual contexts, agent design, and audience engagement that can be utilized as inspiration for future projects or to design new swarm algorithms by artists, architects, or computer scientists.

The Importance of Being Fuzzy
How has computer science changed mathematical thinking? In this first ever comprehensive survey of the subject for popular science readers, Arturo Sangalli explains how computers have brought a new practicality to mathematics and mathematical applications. By using fuzzy logic and related concepts, programmers have been able to sidestep the traditional and often cumbersome search for perfect mathematical solutions to embrace instead solutions that are "good enough." If mathematicians want their work to be relevant to the problems of the modern world, Sangalli shows, they must increasingly recognize "the importance of being fuzzy." As Sangalli explains, fuzzy logic is a technique that allows computers to work with imprecise terms--to answer questions with "maybe" rather than just "yes" and "no." The practical implications of this flexible type of mathematical thinking are remarkable. Japanese programmers have used fuzzy logic to develop the city of Sendai's unusually energy-efficient and smooth-running subway system--one that does not even require drivers. Similar techniques have been used in fields as diverse as medical diagnosis, image understanding by robots, the engineering of automatic transmissions, and the forecasting of currency exchange rates. Sangalli also explores in his characteristically clear and engaging manner the limits of classical computing, reviewing many of the central ideas of Turing and Godel. He shows us how "genetic algorithms" can solve problems by an evolutionary process in which chance plays a fundamental role. He introduces us to "neural networks," which recognize ill-defined patterns without an explicit set of rules--much as a dog can be trained to scent drugs without ever having an exact definition of "drug." Sangalli argues that even though "fuzziness" and related concepts are often compared to human thinking, they can be understood only through mathematics--but the math he uses in the book is straightforward and easy to grasp. Of equal appeal to specialists and the general reader, The Importance of Being Fuzzy reveals how computer science is changing both the nature of mathematical practice and the shape of the world around us.

This book aims to compare well-known and well-used membership functions to demonstrate how to select the best membership functions and show when and why to utilize them. This book also demonstrates how different fields of studies utilize fuzzy logic showing its wide reach and relevance.
Multimodal Agents for Ageing and Multicultural Societies
This book aims to explore and discuss theories and technologies for the development of socially competent and culture-aware embodied conversational agents for elderly care. To tackle the challenges in ageing societies, this book was written by experts who have a background in assistive technologies for elderly care, culture-aware computing, multimodal dialogue, social robotics and synthetic agents. Chapter 1 presents a vision of an intelligent agent to illustrate the current challenges for the design and development of adaptive systems. Chapter 2 examines how notions of trust and empathy may be applied to human-robot interaction and how it can be used to create the next generation of emphatic agents, which address some of the pressing issues in multicultural ageing societies. Chapter 3 discusses multimodal machine learning as an approach to enable more effective and robust modelling technologies and to develop socially competent and culture-aware embodied conversational agents for elderly care. Chapter 4 explores the challenges associated with real-world field tests and deployments. Chapter 5 gives a short introduction to socio-cognitive language processing that describes the idea of coping with everyday language, irony, sarcasm, humor, paralinguistic information such as the physical and mental state and traits of the dialogue partner, and social aspects. This book grew out of the Shonan Meeting seminar entitled "Multimodal Agents for Ageing and Multicultural Societies" held in 2018 in Japan. Researchers and practitioners will be helped to understand the emerging field and the identification of promising approaches from a variety of disciplines such as human-computer interaction, artificial intelligence, modelling, and learning.
Discovery Science
This book constitutes the proceedings of the 24th International Conference on Discovery Science, DS 2021, which took place virtually during October 11-13, 2021.The 36 papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 76 submissions. The contributions were organized in topical sections named: applications; classification; data streams; graph and network mining; machine learning for COVID-19; neural networks and deep learning; preferences and recommender systems; representation learning and feature selection; responsible artificial intelligence; and spatial, temporal and spatiotemporal data.
