Dynamics of the Coastal Zone

The coastal zone is the host to many human activities, which have significantly increased in the last decades. However, sea level rise and more frequent storm events severely affect beaches and coastal structures, with negative consequences and dramatic impacts on coastal communities. These aspects add to typical coastal problems, like flooding and beach erosion, which already leading to large economic losses and human fatalities. Modeling is thus fundamental for an exhaustive understanding of the nearshore region in the present and future environment. Innovative tools and technologies may help to better understand coastal processes in terms of hydrodynamics, sediment transport, bed morphology, and their interaction with coastal structures. This book collects several contributions focusing on nearshore dynamics, and span among several time and spatial scales using both physical and numerical approaches. The aim is to describe the most recent advances in coastal dynamics.

Millimeter-Wave (mmWave) Communications

Das Modell wurde vom B羹ro 'K繹hler Architekten + Beratende Ingenieure GmbH' modelliert und f羹r diese Arbeit zur Verf羹gung gestellt. Der L繹sungsansatz besteht dabei aus einem Datenimport und der Datenverarbeitung von ArchiCAD in iTWO und aus einer auf einem 3D-Modell basierenden Kalkulation. Diese Arbeitsweise orientiert sich am BIM Prozess, zeigt inwieweit eine Interoperabilit瓣t der zwei oben genannten Programme m繹glich ist und welche Problematik damit einhergeht. Zu Beginn werden einige allgemeine Informationen 羹ber das BIM aufgelistet. Dabei wird unter anderem der Begriff 'BIM' erkl瓣rt und erl瓣utert welche Datenformate bei dieser Methode verwendet werden. Im Anschluss daran wird aufgezeigt, wie die Daten in ArchiCAD aufbereitet werden um einen qualit瓣tsgesicherten Export in iTWO gew瓣hrleisten zu k繹nnen. Anschlie?end wird die Arbeitsweise mit RIB iTWO vom Datenimport, 羹ber die Datenaufbereitung, bis zur dreidimensionalen Mengenberechnung und Kalkulation erkl瓣rt. Am Ende der Arbeit wird auf im Verlauf aufgetretene Probleme eingegangen und ein abschlie?endes Fazit wird gezogen. Die angefertigte Anleitung soll es Firmen auf einfache Art und Weise erm繹glichen, mithilfe der zwei Software-Programme ein BIM-orientiertes Modell anzufertigen. Diese erforderlichen Hilfsmittel sind zum einen ein CAD-Programm und zum anderen ein Schnittstellenprogramm, um die gesamte Konzeption der Anleitung zu erarbeiten und n瓣her zu bringen. Als CAD-Programm haben wir uns f羹r ArchiCAD entschieden, da die Firma 'K繹hler Architekten + Beratende Ingenieure GmbH' bereits damit arbeitet.

Solar Air Heater - An Analysis for thermal performance

2D computational analysis is carried out to assess the comparative performance of the absorb-er plate of a solar air heater with T-shape rectangular roughness elements using commercial software packages Fluent 14.5 are investigated at the Reynolds number range from 4000-16000 in which solar air heater normally operate. The k-ɛ turbulence model is selected by comparing the predictions of different turbulence models with experimental results available in the literature. Using the selected turbulence model a computational analysis is carried out to predict the heat transfer performance and flow friction characteristics of absorb-er plates with T-shape and rectangular rib roughness elements.

Assessment and Control of Operational Loss of Sugar During Sugar Cane ProcessingKagera Sug

Case Study from the year 2020 in the subject Agrarian Studies, language: English, abstract: This paper concentrated on assessing and controlling the operational loss of sugar in various sugar byproducts during cane processing in cane sugar factory. In the study, factors associated with operational loss were discussed and Kagera Sugar Limited (KSL) was taken as a case study. Operational sucrose loss is divided into two major categories namely, determined losses and undetermined losses. Determined losses are those which can be easily quantified through lab analysis, such as loss in molasses, filter cake and bagasse. Unlike determined losses, undetermined losses are difficult to estimate directly but rather by factory material balance. Undetermined loss is further classified into chemical loss, mechanical loss and administrative loss. In both losses, the loss through molasses is by far the largest of total loss encountered during cane processing. Objective of this paper was to develop means of increasing sucrose recovery by monitoring sugar loss. After analyzing data collected from KSL production reports, for crushing seasons 2015/16 and 2016/17 the operational loss was 2.83 and 2.87 pol % cane crushed in respective seasons. This means KSL loses significant amount of sucrose as compared to 2.20 pol% cane crushed for plants installed after 1994 as reported by. Sugar loss in molasses and bagasse was high than others, it was concluded that, the use of three laws of sucrose loss in molasses coupled with optimization of boiling house operations would result in minimized loss of sucrose in molasses. Also, improving extraction would result in minimum sucrose loss in bagasse.

Das Ziel der Hausarbeit ist es, die Wirkung des Naturschutzes auf die Gesellschaft zu pr瓣sentieren und herauszufinden, welche Ver瓣nderungen der Ziele es bis heute gab. Der Anfang des Naturschutzes in Deutschland beginnt mit der Gr羹ndung der staatlichen Stelle f羹r Naturdenkmalpflege im Jahre 1906 in Preu?en. Dieses Jahr gilt damit als Startschuss des staatlichen Naturschutzes in Deutschland und feiert 2006 sein 100-j瓣hriges Bestehen. Der Naturschutz hat sich zu einer der wichtigsten Staatsaufgaben entwickelt. Auch vor dem Jahr 1906 wurde aktiv Natur- und Umweltschutz betrieben. Die Erkenntnis, Natur und Landschaft zu sch羹tzen, hat in Deutschland daher eine lange Tradition. Besonders zeichnet sich der Naturschutz in Deutschland durch folgende in der Praxis einsetzbaren Instrumentarien aus: zu einem die Ausweisung von Schutzgebieten und zum anderen durch die Artenschutzprogramme. Advances in Mechanical Systems Dynamics

Modern dynamics was established many centuries ago by Galileo and Newton before the beginning of the industrial era. Presently, we are in the presence of the fourth industrial revolution, and mechanical systems are increasingly being integrated with electronic, electrical, and fluidic systems. Im ersten Kapitel wird zun瓣chst kurz das Verdauungssystem im Tierreich angesprochen, wie es bei den verschiedenen Tieren aufgebaut ist, welche Tiere ein Verdauungssystem besitzen und welche nicht, damit die Entwicklung und das Vorhandensein des Verdauungssystems verstanden werden kann. Im zweiten Kapitel wird auf das Verdauungssystem des Menschen eingegangen, um Aufbau und die einzelnen Schritte der Verdauung zu verdeutlichen. Dabei wird die Nahrung durch die einzelnen Abschnitte bis zur Ausscheidung begleitet und die einzelnen Prozesse beschrieben. Angefangen wird dabei mit dem Mund als die Anfangsstation der Verdauung mit dem anschlie?enden Transport der Nahrung durch die Speiser繹hre zum Magen. Environmental Impact Assessment of Buildings

This Special Issue covers a wide range of areas--including building orientation, service life, use of photocatalytically active structures and PV facades, implications of transportation system, building types (i.e., high rise, multilevel, commercial, residential), life cycle assessment, and structural engineering--that need to be considered in the environmental impact assessment of buildings, and the chapters include case studies across the globe. Consideration of these strategies would help reduce energy and material consumption, environmental emissions, and waste generation associated with all phases of a building's life cycle. Chapter 1 demonstrates that green star concrete exhibits the same structural properties as conventional concrete in Australia. Chapter 2 showed that the use of TiO2 as a photocatalyst on the surface of construction materials with a suitable stable binding agent, such as aggregates, would enable building walls to absorb NOx from air. This study found that TiO2 has the potential to reduce ambient concentrations of NOx from areas where this pollutant becomes concentrated under solar irradiation. Chapter 3 presents the life cycle assessment of architecturally integrated glass-glass photovoltaics in building facades to find the appropriate material composition for a multicolored PV fa癟ade offering improved environmental performance. Chapter 4 shows that urban office buildings lacking appropriate orientation experienced indoor overheating. Chapter 5 details four modeling approaches that were implemented to estimate buildings' response towards load shedding. Chapter 6 covers the life cycle GHG emissions of high-rise residential housing block to discover opportunities for environmental improvement. Chapter 7 discusses an LCA framework that took into account variation in the service life of buildings associated with the use of different types of materials. The pervious concrete has a disadvantage that it has less compressive strength when compare to normal concrete this backdrop in pervious concrete because pervious concrete is a no fines concrete it has no sand the sand which plays a vital role in the strength gain of the concrete hence we in our study has concentrated in improving the compressive strength but at the same time the permeability and void content should also not affected because permeability and void content are two most important properties of the pervious concrete which makes it the pervious concrete so basically we have also conducted study on the permeability and void content of the pervious concrete. In our study we have added different sizes of coarse aggregates such as 20 m, 12 mm, 12 +2 0 mm and we have added the sand percentages at 0 %, 0.25 %, 0.75 % and the compressive strength was checked on 7,14,28,56,90 days respectively and we have checked the permeability and void content at 28 days.

Stabilization of Local Expansive Subgrade Soil using Marble waste powder with Lime

A billions of US dollars spent worldwide each year to mitigate the problem. The presence of expansive sub-grade soil results pavement distress and damage. Removing the expansive soil and replacing with the competent material is applied to mitigate the problem which is very expensive and time consuming for long hauling distance and thick layer expansive soil. This study presented stabilization of local expansive sub-grade soil using marble waste powder with lime. The marble waste powder was collected in Addis Ababa from Ethiomarble processing enterprise Gulele branch and the lime was collected at Gast Solar Mechanics in Addis Ababa. Free swell index test, Atterberg limit test, Proctor test, unconfined compressive test, California Bearing Ratio Tests, swelling potential and swelling pressure test were used to evaluate properties of treated and untreated soils. The expansive subgrade soil was treated using 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25% marble waste powder with fixed 3% lime respective combinations by weight of the soil. The optimum percent combination for this study was 10% marble waste powder with 3%lime based on soaked CBR swell, soaked CBR, swelling pressure and swelling potential test result values. Optimum proportion of stabilizers improve CBR Value from 0.65% to 4.19%, reduce swelling pressure from 1000kpa to 440kpa, increases MDD from 1.21 to 1.29, and reduce PI from 78% to 48.4%. Analysis of the Impact of Out-Grower Schemes on the Wellbeing of Small-Scale Tobacco Farme

This is because out-grower schemes provide access to agricultural inputs and market to the rural farmers. These services seem to be scarce, especially in a liberalized economy like Zambia. However, there are debates as whether out-grower schemes have been beneficial to farmers or not. Therefore, this study aims at investigating the impact of tobacco out-grower schemes on the economic well-being of farmers at Mugubudu tobacco out-grower scheme of Chipata District. To do this, the study employed non-experimental cross sectional research design. 150 questionnaires were distributed to solicit data from 150 randomly selected small scale tobacco farmers using a tobacco farmers' register as sample frame. The salient findings of the study were that tobacco out-grower schemes had improved the well-being of small scale tobacco farmers. Indicators for this improvement were that small scale tobacco farmers had acquired assets and their consumption expenditure had increased. However, the study established that lack of information as regard to contract contents, insufficiency of extension services, pricing system, environmental hazards and debt from inputs loans as factors that can choke the strides made by out-grower schemes. The study recommended that information is be provided in local languages as this will reduce the current difficulties as many of agro-literature is published in English. It is necessary that there is improved collaboration, dialogue and negotiation among all stakeholders namely the Ministry of Agriculture through the regulatory body Tobacco Board of Zambia (TBZ), out-grower firms and farmers association on issues such as pricing, dissemination of information and loan management. Impacts of Livestock Holdings on Households’ Participation in Wood Fuel Production From Dryland Forest

Survey data were collected from 320 households in Dire Dawa administration council of Oromia state, Ethiopia following a snowball sampling technique. Binary logit regression model and descriptive statistics were used to analyze the impacts of livestock holding on households' participation in fuelwood production from dryland forest. The estimation of the model indicates that livestock and size of arable land holdings were significant factors in determining households' participation in wood fuel production. An increase of one unit in livestock holding leads to the probability of participation in wood fuel production of households decreased by 0.118 units while the land size has a negative impact on the participation of wood fuel production. When land size increased by 1 hectare the probability of participating in wood fuel production will be decreased by 0.9 units. The mean of wood fuel producers' livestock holding was about 5.84 TLU and 10.67 for non- wood fuel producer which indicates the negative correlation of livestock holding and wood fuel production. Thus the study concludes that households with large livestock less likely to participate in wood fuel extraction from dryland forest. Promoting sustainable livestock production with appropriate grazing plan can have a significant role in dryland forest conservation and sustainable forest management.

Drowsiness Detection Using Image Processing

When a driver doesn't get proper rest, they fall asleep while driving and this leads to fatal accidents. This particular issue demands a solution in the form of a system that is capable of detecting drowsiness and to take necessary actions to avoid accidents. The detection is achieved with three main steps, it begins with face detection and facial feature detection using the famous Viola Jones algorithm followed by eye tracking. By the use of correlation coefficient template matching, the eyes are tracked. Whether the driver is awake or asleep is identified by matching the extracted eye image with the externally fed template (open eyes and closed eyes) based on eyes opening and eyes closing, blinking is recognized. If the driver falling asleep state remains above a specific time (the threshold time) the vehicles stops and an alarm is activated by the use of a specific microcontroller, in this prototype an Arduino is used.

Der Morbus Wilson ist eine autosomal-rezessiv vererbbare Kupferspeicherkrankheit, die zu einer giftigen Kupferakkumulation in verschiedenen Geweben, vor Allem jedoch in der Leber und den Basalganglien, f羹hrt. Die H瓣ufigkeit des M. Wilson liegt auf die Gesamtbev繹lkerung bezogen bei ca. 1:30.000. Die H瓣ufigkeit von gesunden, heterozygoten Merkmalstr瓣gern liegt bei ca. 1:90. Da sie autosomal vererbt wird, sind sowohl M瓣nner als auch Frauen gleich h瓣ufig betroffen. Die Krankheit gibt sich meist zwischen dem 6. und 40. Lebensjahr zu erkennen und hat ein sehr vielf瓣ltiges klinisches Erscheinungsbild. Die St繹rung der Kupferverarbeitung hat viele verschiedene Auswirkungen auf den K繹rper und ist unbehandelt t繹dlich. Bei den Symptomen unterscheidet man grob zwischen hepatischen (die Leber betreffenden) und extrahepatischen Symptomen, wobei jedoch 42% aller Patienten ein vorwiegend hepatisches und 34% aller Patienten ein vorwiegend neurologisches Bild aufweisen.

Plasma Processes for Renewable Energy Technologies

On the issue, we focus on environment plasma technologies that can effectively utilize renewable electric energy sources, such as photovoltaic power generation, biofuel power generation, wind turbine power generation, etc. However, any latest research results on plasma environmental improvement processes are welcome for submission.
