Advanced UQ methods are also introduced, including stochastic processes, stochastic differential equations, random fields, fractional stochastic differential equations, hidden Markov model, linear Gaussian state space model, as well as non-probabilistic methods such as robust Bayesian analysis, Dempster-Shafer theory, imprecise probability, and interval probability. The book also includes example applications in multiscale modeling, reliability, fatigue, materials design, machine learning, and decision making.
Municipal Wastewater Treatment
Municipal Wastewater Treatment: Advanced Technologies in Wastewater Treatment provides updated information on existing technologies for municipal wastewater treatment. The book focuses on efficient technologies and environmental control strategies in the field of municipal wastewater and covers below listed strategies that can be used in municipal wastewater treatment, depending on the specific needs and goals of the treatment plant: (a) Preliminary treatment: This involves screening out large objects like sticks, rocks, and plastics, and removing grit and sand that can damage pumps and other equipment. (b) Primary treatment: In this stage, wastewater is settled in large tanks, allowing solids to stele to the bottom and oils and greases to rise to the surface, where they can be skimmed off. (c) Secondary treatment: This stage uses biological processes to further treat the wastewater. One common method is the activated sludge process, which involves aerating the wastewater and adding microorganism that consumes organic matter. Another method is the trickling filter process, which uses a bed of rocks of other materials to support microorganisms that break down organic matter. (d) Tertiary treatment: This is an optional stage that can be used to further remove nutrients, pathogens, and other pollutants from the wastewater. Common methods include sand filtration, membrane filtration, and disinfection with chemicals like chlorine or ultraviolet light. (e) Sludge treatment and disposal: The solids that are removed during primary and secondary treatment, known as sludge, must be further treated before they can be safely disposed of or used. Common methods include anaerobic digestion, composting, and drying. Municipal Wastewater Treatment sheds light and gives a broad but very detailed view on above mentioned issues from an industrial chemical engineering point of view.

Micro-cutting CNC Technology for Porous Titanium Artificial Bones
With the growth of market demand and the diversification of product specifications, artificial bone processing technology is entering a whole new phase. The use of multi-axis artificial bone machining equipment and CNC systems for precision cutting and processing brings advantages such as stable manufacturing accuracy, reduced processing costs, and easy implementation of personalised production. However, the domestic self-developed CNC system for artificial bone machining has limitations in terms of single machining object, smaller machining size, and simpler machining features. In order to solve this problem, this project proposes the development task of an open artificial bone machining CNC system based on motion controllers, aiming to develop a system suitable for the machining of multi-species, large-size and complex morphological objects. The main research includes hardware platform design, software development, process knowledge base design and post-processor customisation. The system has been verified by simulation experiments and can meet the processing requirements of artificial bone objects.
Machine Learning in Aluminium Reduction
Aluminium smelting the world over has had two major constraints: environmental protection and energy costs. Since the method and efficiency of alumina feed in the smelting process impacts environmental pollution and production efficiency greatly, much of the industry's investment money has been spent researching into better feed control systems - feed delivery and feed strategies. The subject matter of this thesis dwells on the latter, continuing the search for an efficient adaptive alumina feed strategy in the Hall-H矇roult aluminium reduction cell. Neurocomputing is applied to the problem of on-line estimation of alumina mass balance in the electrolytic cell. Simulated and real electrolytic resistance/alumina concentration data was used as input vectors to train a single-layer feed forward loop-back NEURAL NETWORK constructed with six constraint equations and six degrees of freedom in search for a prediction algorithm. A contribution is proposed to alumina feed control strategies by developing a neural network-based adaptive feed control algorithm, robust against cell resistance variations, and implementable on retrofit state-of-the-art aluminium reduction cell microcomputers.

Brilliant Future of Metamaterials Applications
Metamaterial (from the Greek word μετά meta, meaning "beyond" or "after", and the Latin word material, meaning "matter" or "material") is a type of material engineered to have a property, typically rarely observed in naturally occurring materials, that is derived not from the properties of the base materials but from their newly designed structures. They are fashioned from multiple materials, such as metals and plastics, and are usually arranged in repeating patterns, at scales that are smaller than the wavelengths of the phenomena they influence. Their precise shape, geometry, size, orientation, and arrangement give them their "smart" properties of manipulating electromagnetic, acoustic, or even seismic waves: by blocking, absorbing, enhancing, or bending waves, to achieve benefits that go beyond what is possible with conventional materials. Appropriately designed metamaterials can affect wave of electromagnetic radiation or sound in a manner not observed in bulk materials. Those that exhibit a negative index of refraction for particular wavelengths have been the focus of a large amount of research. These materials are known as negative-index meta-materials.

cGMP and Validation in Pharmaceutical Process Technology
GMP is that part of Quality Assurance which ensures that products are consistently produced and controlled to the quality standard appropriate to their intended use and as required by the marketing authorization. These regulations, which have the force of law, require that manufacturers, processors, and packagers of drugs, medical devices, some food, and blood take protective steps to ensure that their products are safe, pure, and effective. Require a quality approach to manufacturing, enabling companies to minimize or eliminate instances of contamination, mix-ups, and errors. Protects the consumer from purchasing a product, which is not effective or even dangerous. GMP regulations address issues including record keeping, personnel qualifications, sanitation, cleanliness, equipment verification, process validation, and complaint handling. Validation is an essential part of good manufacturing practices (GMP). It is therefore an element of the pharmaceutical quality system. Validation as a concept, incorporates qualification and should be applied over the life cycle. The execution of validation should be in compliance with regulatory requirements.
