A detailed account, based on fieldwork and interviews, of how Women, Peace and Security norms are militarized and put at the service of operational effectiveness. International organizations and governments want to increase women's participation in military operations and peacebuilding. Gender equality is increasingly seen as the antidote to conflict, a key factor in achieving stability. While feminist activism inspired the emergence of these norms on gender and conflict, they were institutionalized through the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda, with the military at the forefront of those changes. In Deploying Feminism, St矇fanie von Hlatky tells the story of how the military has been delegated authority to advance gender equality as part of their activities, while simultaneously tackling increasingly complex threats. Drawing upon fieldwork and interviews, she illustrates how NATO, the world's foremost alliance, has even embedded these ideas in the planning and execution of its missions. For troops deployed on NATO missions, this often means seeking out women in their operating area to improve intelligence gathering activities. While this helps the mission, does it help women and conflict-affected communities? Because of the military's focus on operational effectiveness above all else, von Hlatky argues that there is a distortion of WPS norms, as gender equality concerns fade into the background. Black Hawks Over the Danube
Black Hawks Over the Danube is the riveting account of the formation and deployment of the 86th Infantry Division during World War II. The 86th Division, known as the Black Hawks, was notable for a number of reasons: 1. The 86th Division was the first allied division to cross the Danube River; 2. The 86th Division captured some 53,354 German soldiers; 3. The Black Hawks conquered over 220 miles of enemy territory in the Ruhr Pocket and in Bavaria and Austria; 4. The division liberated over 200,000 allied prisoners of war, including over 110,000 in one camp near Moosburg; 5. The Black Hawks made several important river crossings, with amphibious assaults of the Danube, Bigge, Altm羹hl, Isar, Mittel-Isar, Inn, and Salzach; 6. The Division Served in actual combat with four different American armies (the only Division to set this record on the western front); 7. Later the Black Hawks became the first division to serve in both the European and Pacific theaters of operation (only one other division actually served in the Pacific after European duty). Author Richard Briggs was an infantryman in the 86th Division for over two years, including its service in the Philippines following the European campaign.

Applications of Minimally Invasive Nanomedicine-Based Therapies in 3D in Vitro Cancer Platforms
Minimally invasive techniques such as Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) and Photochemical Internalisation (PCI) have for years been under investigation for the treatment of solid cancers. A significant number of the recent research studies have applied PDT and PCI to biological three-dimensional (3D) cancer platforms with many of the studies also involving the use of nanoparticles in order to enhance the efficacy of these light-based therapies. Interest in the employment of 3D cancer platforms has increased considerably due to the ability of the platforms to mimic in vivo models better than the conventional two-dimensional (2D) cultures. Some of the advantages of the 3D cancer systems over their 2D counterparts include improved interaction between cancer cells and the surrounding extracellular matrix (ECM) as well as restricted drug penetration which would allow optimization of treatments prior to undertaking of in vivo studies. The different chapters of this book will discuss photosensitizers and nanoparticles used in PDT and PCI in addition to the applications of these treatments in various 3D cancer models.
