Onizuka Air Force Base
For nearly five decades, some of the United States military's most secretive operations were conducted out of a collection of nondescript buildings at the intersection of State Route 237 and Mathilda Avenue in Sunnyvale, California. The installation was known by a variety of names in its early years: Satellite Test Center, Air Force Satellite Control Facility, the "Blue Cube," and Sunnyvale Air Force Station. In July 1986, the facility was renamed Onizuka Air Force Base after Col. Ellison S. Onizuka, the first Asian American astronaut, who was killed during the space shuttle Challenger accident. The location was selected due to its proximity to Lockheed Missiles and Space Company's Sunnyvale facilities and supported early satellite reconnaissance programs such as Corona, Gambit, and Hexagon. As the nation's nucleus for satellite command and control, workers at Onizuka Air Force Base directed efforts for the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), US military, and NASA's space shuttle program until the closure of the base in 2010.

Water
As water crises multiply, and mass extinction and climate chaos escalate, we have the sense that nature is serving us a very clear warning and that something major has to change, or else. To respond requires that our adaptive skills are informed by ecology and applied effectively. The key issue is whether we can adjust our ways of life to make it in our new global environment. Building an informed awareness of water, and the life it bears in every drop, has to be a key starting point. Public involvement in the environmental struggle is now worldwide, transforming political agendas everywhere. Science, spirit and community are working together to release energy for change and justice at a scale seldom seen before. The channelling of this energy into ecological restoration and renewal of our relationships with nature and with each other is the great task of everyone alive today or soon to be born. It is time to make Peace with Nature.

Agile Project Management
Have you ever tried your hand at software development only to find out that it's much harder than you prepared for? Not only do you have to make sure that your skills are up to par with everybody else but there is also the matter of coordinating with everyone involved in that project. And with Collaboration comes the potential for complexity. Soon enough, you'll be juggling different deadlines and correspondences, deal with differences in design approaches, and wade through deep technical problems. Aside from that, you'd have to deal with pressure from investors and stakeholders whose visions your team is trying to translate into something tangible but often get blindsided by last-minute committee decisions. Now, what if you are open to a more agile method of managing projects but find changes in your results to be insignificant? For instance, you might have adopted methodologies like Scrum and XP but find your team of going through the motions of the change instead of fully embracing such.Managing a project that requires collaborative effort is complicated and often challenging, there is no doubt to that. But what if someone were to tell you that you can help your team achieve its goals at a faster and far more effective pace? This is where this book comes into play.In this book, you will learn the different Agile Methodologies, the rationale behind their structures, and the values, principles, and concepts that you could use in employing them.If that is not enough for you, here are a few more things that the book will focus on: What motivates teams and what ideas and principles do they identify with the most? The basics of the four major Agile methodologies: Scrum, XP, Kanban, and Lean. What makes them different from one another?Restructuring your team's framework to be more compatible with agile methodologies.Picking the right methodology for your team or for a certain project.Preparing, dealing with, and mitigating potential problems that might arise from the application of methodologies.Ensuring sustainability in the application of agile methodologies. In essence, by learning of the Why behind Agile Project Management methods, you can find the How in implementing them for your own team. And eventually, you should be able to achieve the results you have set for the team or, better yet, go beyond those. The information provided in this book has been organized in such a way that it is easy to understand and master, even for those who are relatively new to the concepts of software development and project management. If the prospect of learning how to finish projects faster and more effectively intrigues you, then it is now time to dive deep into the world of Agile Project Management!
Distributed Energy Resources Management 2018
The Special Issue Distributed Energy Resources Management 2018 includes 13 papers, and is a continuation of the Special Issue Distributed Energy Resources Management. The success of the previous edition shows the unquestionable relevance of distributed energy resources in the operation of power and energy systems at both the distribution level and at the wider power system level. Improving the management of distributed energy resources makes it possible to accommodate the higher penetration of intermittent distributed generation and electric vehicle charging. Demand response programs, namely the ones with a distributed nature, allow the consumers to contribute to the increased system efficiency while receiving benefits. This book addresses the management of distributed energy resources, with a focus on methods and techniques to achieve an optimized operation, in order to aggregate the resources namely in the scope of virtual power players and other types of aggregators, and to remunerate them. The integration of distributed resources in electricity markets is also addressed as an enabler for their increased and efficient use.

Diet in Brain Health and Neurological Disorders
The role of nutrition in health and disease has been appreciated from time immemorial. Around 400 B.C., Hippocrates wrote "Let food by thy medicine and medicine be thy food." In the 12th century, the great philosopher and physician Moses Maimonides wrote "any disease that can be treated by diet should be treated by no other means." Now, in the 21st century, we are bombarded by claims in the media of "superfoods," wondrous nutritional supplements, and special diets that promise to cure or prevent disease, improve health and restore functioning. Much of the focus has been on neurological disease, brain health and psychological functioning (behavior, cognition, and emotion). The hyperbole aside, there has been considerable progress in the past decade in our understanding of the contribution of specific nutrients and dietary patterns to brain development, physiology, and functioning. This Special Issue of Brain Sciences is devoted to the latest research on the role of nutritional deficiencies and excesses in the genesis of brain dysfunction, and use of diet for the prevention and treatment of brain and mental disorders. Basic laboratory and clinical research studies of the immature, adult, and aged nervous system are all welcome.

Masonry Buildings
Masonry is a construction material that has been used throughout the years as a structural or non-structural component in buildings. Masonry can be described as a composite material made up of different units and diverse types of arrangements, with or without mortar, that is used in many ancient public buildings, as well as with the latest technologies being applied in construction. Research in multiple relevant fields, as well as crossing structural with non-structural needs, is crucial for understanding the qualities of existent buildings and to develop new products and construction technologies. This book addresses and promotes the discussion related to the different topics addressing the use of masonry in the construction sciences and in practice, including theory and research, numerical approaches and technical applications in new works, and repair actions and interventions in the built environment, connecting theory and application across topics from academia to industry.
Experimental and Numerical Studies in Biomedical Engineering
The term 'biomedical engineering' refers to the application of the principles and problem-solving techniques of engineering to biology and medicine. Biomedical engineering is an interdisciplinary branch, as many of the problems health professionals are confronted with have traditionally been of interest to engineers because they involve processes that are fundamental to engineering practice. Biomedical engineers employ common engineering methods to comprehend, modify, or control biological systems, and to design and manufacture devices that can assist in the diagnosis and therapy of human diseases. This Special Issue of Fluids aims to be a forum for scientists and engineers from academia and industry to present and discuss recent developments in the field of biomedical engineering. It contains papers that tackle, both numerically (Computational Fluid Dynamics studies) and experimentally, biomedical engineering problems, with a diverse range of studies focusing on the fundamental understanding of fluid flows in biological systems, modelling studies on complex rheological phenomena and molecular dynamics, design and improvement of lab-on-a-chip devices, modelling of processes inside the human body as well as drug delivery applications. Contributions have focused on problems associated with subjects that include hemodynamical flows, arterial wall shear stress, targeted drug delivery, FSI/CFD and Multiphysics simulations, molecular dynamics modelling and physiology-based biokinetic models.
Off Grid Solar
Off Grid Solar is a pocket guide and quick reference for anyone looking to build an electrical energy system with the free sunshine available to us all."The limitations to widespread solar are not centered on the cost, the efficiency, or the need for advancements in technology. The limitations are solely due to the lack of widespread knowledge on the subject."With that philosophy at heart, solar and battery expert Joseph P. O'Connor draws from his years of experience to craft a how-to guide needed by everyone around the world. Founder of OCON Energy Consulting, O'Connor has conducted and taught the installation/maintenance of Off Grid solar projects to people and communities as far away as the central African rainforest and right in his own backyard of Oakland, California. For anyone interested in harvesting their own solar energy completely detached from the grid, this is the book for you. Thanks to straightforward explanations for readers of all levels, this book establishes a familiarity with the basic low cost components alongside the most innovative technologies. With this knowledge the reader can make better decisions based on their technology needs, rather than simply trusting the recommendations from others.Need to keep costs down? How many solar panels are needed to refill the batteries? What is the best way to angle your solar panels? On projects both big and small, Joe's got you covered.
Beverage Sensory Modification
This Special Issue on "Beverage Sensory Modification" presents a series of articles that feature the broad sense of sensory modification with regards to beverages, either by improving their flavor, taste, and mouthfeel properties, or through prevention of spoilage. The scope goes further than the usual technological measures that modulate sensory properties and includes psychological and cross-modal influences, where the sensory modification occurs in the subject's brain rather than as a result of modified physical-chemical properties of objects.
Analysis of Sensory Properties in Foods
The sensory properties of foods are the most important reason people eat the foods they eat. What those properties are and how we best measure those properties are critical to understanding food and eating behavior. Appearance, flavor, texture, and even the sounds of food can impart a desire to eat or cause us to dismiss the food as unappetizing, stale, or even inappropriate from a cultural standpoint. This Special Issue focuses on how sensory properties are measured, the specific sensory properties of various foods, and consumer behavior related to which properties might be most important in certain situations and how consumers use sensory attributes to make decisions about what they will eat. This Special Issue contains both research papers and review articles.

Medical Microbiology
Biomedical scientists are the foundation of modern healthcare, from cancer screening to diagnosing HIV, from blood transfusion for surgery to food poisoning and infection control. Without biomedical scientists, the diagnosis of disease, the evaluation of the effectiveness of treatment, and research into the causes and cures of disease would not be possible. The Fundamentals of Biomedical Science series has been written to reflect the challenges of practicing biomedical science today. It draws together essential basic science with insights into laboratory practice to show how an understanding of the biology of disease is coupled to the analytical approaches that lead to diagnosis. Assuming only a minimum of prior knowledge, the series reviews the full range of disciplines to which a Biomedical Scientist may be exposed - from microbiology to cytopathology to transfusion science. The series: DT Understands the complex roles of Biomedical Scientists in the modern practice of medicine.DT Understands the development needs of employers and the Profession.DT Addresses the need for understanding of a range of fundamental sciences in the context of Biomedicine.DT Places the theoretical aspects of Biomedical Science in their practical context via clinical case studies. Medical Microbiology covers a range of key laboratory techniques used in the diagnosis of important human diseases caused by microorganisms. From sample collection, through to analysis and laboratory investigation, the text covers a wide range of procedures and highlights how and why results are generated. The third edition has been expanded to cover a wider range of topics, including a new chapter on Whole Genome Sequencing and extended coverage of syphilis and MALDI.
