This brief presents methods for anti-windup control in the presence of saturating sensors, arbitrary external reference inputs, and constant or step-like disturbance inputs. It also offers techniques to assure windup prevention when both the input and the output signals are limited and this for systems with one input (SISO) and multiple inputs (MIMO). The emphasis in both is on real-world practicality rather than rigorously proven stability.Two novel solutions for anti-windup control are explored. The first approach, for SISO systems only, follows the classic design paradigm of anti-windup control: design an arbitrary linear compensator and add appropriate measures for their prevention if saturation causes stability problems. This uses a saturation indicator detecting the presence, but not the extent of saturation. The second methodology uses a compensator design that assures the desired rejection of persistent disturbances without jeopardizing closed-loop stability, and canbe applied to SISO and MIMO systems alike. Containing worked examples that can be reproduced by the reader, illustrative simulations, and open problems for future research, Windup in Control Owing to Sensor Saturation will be of interest to both academics and engineers in the fields of control and process industries.

Quantum Dash Laser in WDM L-band Communication Systems

Wavelength division multiplexed passive optical networks are perceived as the ultimate form of next-generation passive optical network that show promising outlooks in meeting the ever-growing demand of telecommunication capacities and internet traffic. In this book, an InAs/InP quantum dash laser is investigated as an ideal contender to meeting this demand owing to is broadband emission, which allows for expanding the utilizable bandwidth away from the over-exhausted C-band and to accommodating more subscribers for less capital expenditure. Firstly, the device is inspected as a tunable light source with a total emission-wavelength tuning range of 30 nm due to its inhomogeneous active region. Thereafter, the device is investigated in two-sectioned configurations to realize other monolithic devices. Lastly, the quantum dash active region is examined in terms of its electro-absorption (EA) and electro-optic (EO) characteristics. On another front, the quantum dash laser is employed to achieve the first demonstration of WDM transmission in the L-band over a single transmitter with an aggregate data rate of 384 Gbit/s with three simultaneous channels in DP-QPSK modulation scheme.

Adaptive Robust Control for Planar Snake Robots

To achieve robustness to unknown variations in surface conditions, it explores various adaptive robust control methods.The authors propose a sliding-mode control approach designed to achieve robust maneuvering for bounded uncertainty with a known upper bound. Convective Cell Tracking through Deep Learning based Computer Vision

The present study developed an autonomous algorithm for the Convective cell Identification and TRAcking (CITRA) using DWR reflectivity images. The CITRA algorithm is implemented in Python using Deep learning technique of Neural Networks. Optical Character Recognition is used in the present study through "Tesseract" which is an unsupervised Neural Network module based on LSTM which analyses the input dimensional pixel array/image and outputs high-level strings. The algorithm runs through the DWR reflectivity image pixel values and recognizes the intensities of the pixels (>=30 dB) and segregates convective cells along with other estimated cell properties such as centroid of the storm, the area covered, distance and direction from the radar centre. The performance of CITRA algorithm was tested on different convective storms and it could successfully identify and track them along with other physical properties of the convective cells. Further, we have demonstrated the potential application of CITRA algorithm on the evolution of convective cells detected within the radar range. Presently, CITRA algorithm takes only reflectivity images as a single input parameter.

Hybrid Pid Based Predictive Control Strategies for Wirelesshart Networked Control Systems

Recent advances in wireless technology have led to the emergence of industry standards such as WirelessHART. These strategies minimise the need for cumbersome cabling, thereby reducing costs. Furthermore, model-based controllers are complex and require exact models of the process and systematic system identification for implementation. Therefore, to address these issues, the book proposes control strategies that retain the simplicity of PID in terms of ease of tuning and structure, while improving on the performance of the closed-loop system with regard to stochastic network delays and mismatches. Concretely, it proposes and discusses three strategies, namely: Setpoint Weighting (SW), Filtered Predictive PI (FPPI) and Optimal Fuzzy PID. In order to optimise some of these controllers, two novel hybrid optimisation algorithms combining the dynamism of the Bacterial Foraging Algorithm (BFA) and advantages of both the Spiral Dynamic Algorithm (SDA) and the Accelerated Particle Swarm Optimisation (APSO) have been used. The strategies proposed here can also be applied in stochastic control scenarios (not necessarily wireless) characterised by uncertainties. This book will be useful to engineers and researchers in both industry and academia. In industry, it will be particularly useful to research and development efforts where PID controllers and wireless sensor networks (WSNs) involving both short and long term stochastic network delay are employed. Thus, it can be used for real-time control design in these areas. In the academic setting, the book will be useful for researchers, undergraduate and graduate students of instrumentation and control. It can also be used as reference material for teaching courses on predictive and adaptive controls and their application.
