Neurotoxicity Guidebook

Ingram 出版
2025/12/02 出版

This book was written to inform the educated public about the potential hazards of neurotoxic substances. The impetus for this book was a telephone call in June, 1988, from Mr. Robert Esposito of Van Nostrand Reinhold. He wanted to know if I would be willing to write a book on neurotoxicity that would be suitable for industrial hygienists, safety professionals, occupational health personnel, and others interested in neurotoxicity, including psychologists, neuropsychologists, physicians, risk analyzers, and government regulators.

Faith, Freedom & Other F Words

2025/11/23 出版

"I'm not supposed to be here."But here I am.Born with a degenerative muscle condition and a future prewritten by doctors before she could even walk, Rhiannon Anderson was told she'd never live a full life. Instead, she chose to live a fierce one.In Faith, Freedom, and Other F-Words, Rhiannon throws out society's rulebook and reclaims what it means to live, speak, and thrive with disability. This isn't just a memoir about Muscular Dystrophy-it's a story about refusing to be reduced, rewritten, or pitied. It's about standing in your truth, even when that truth makes people uncomfortable.Because here's the thing: Disability is not one-size-fits-all. Powerful and painful. Messy, funny, unfair-and deeply human. In a world that prefers its disability stories sweet, sanitised, and "inspiring," Rhiannon dares to tell the whole truth. The one with the grief, the grit, and the hard conversations. The one that includes joy, purpose, and freedom-not despite disability but often because of it.From childhood battles with understanding her differences, bullying and self-worth to adult moments of love, loss, and faith, every chapter is infused with courage, vulnerability, and unfiltered honesty. Whether she's navigating the healthcare system, healing on horseback, confronting ableism, or unlearning perfectionism, Rhiannon invites readers to go on this journey beside her. This book is for anyone who's ever felt like they didn't belong. For anyone who's tired of shrinking to make others more comfortable. And for anyone ready to rewrite the narrative-not just about disability, but about life."Be bold, be strong, be selfless, be courageous. Every single human on the face of the planet is unique in their own way. We were not born to be the same. We were born to contribute andleave our mark on the world." - Rhiannon AndersonIf you're looking for permission to defy expectations-here it is.

Pots

2025/11/20 出版

Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) is currently defined as a 'syndrome', a collection of symptoms for which the root cause has not yet been identified. This book aims to rectify this by arguing the case for POTS being considered a form of neurological injury to the limbic system following an antecedent trauma, such as a viral illness, pregnancy, surgery or psychological trauma (or a combination). Patrick Ussher himself had POTS but recovered by following a limbic system rehabilitation program (originally developed to treat Multiple Chemical Sensitivity) called the Dynamic Neural Retraining System (DNRS). After recovery, he set about mapping the idea of a limbic system impairment onto pre-existing research into POTS and found that it could explain many key findings including: NET protein deficiency (which is responsible for blood vessel constriction problems and resulting elevated heart rate upon standing), low aldosterone and poor sodium retention (which are responsible for low blood volume problems) and mast cell activation problems. This book will simultaneously act as a guide for those interested in using the DNRS as a treatment for POTS and also as a call for further research into the potential efficacy of the DNRS for treating POTS.

Praise Through the Pain

Angel,Faulk  著
2025/09/26 出版

Fitness and health coach Angel Faulk, a.k.a. "The Fitness Angel," had built her life and career around health and wellness, but a life-threatening diagnosis almost took away everything she'd worked for. Surgery was only the beginning of the healing process. She had to relearn how to walk, talk, and swallow. Through her determination and faith in God's healing power, Angel not only regained her strength-both physically and spiritually-but He also opened new doors for her to share her wisdom and her testimony. Praise Through the Pain: Diagnosis to Destiny is her story of triumph over fear and physical limitations by relying on the God who created her. You'll also learn helpful health tips and encouraging mindset shifts for improving your life and wellbeing. Angel's story reminds us of the truth of Psalm 139:14: "I am fearfully and wonderfully made." Whether you're facing a serious diagnosis, going through menopause, or simply seeking better health, her journey is proof that no obstacle is insurmountable.

Planning Miracles

Jon,Cohen  著
Knopf Publis 出版
2025/09/24 出版

A groundbreaking book about the past, present, and future of pandemics, and a behind-the-scenes portrait of the intrepid and innovative community of scientists working tirelessly to stop the next one before it starts In 1955, the vaccine that eliminated polio was celebrated as a "planned miracle." Today, despite the astonishing global effort that came together to develop a vaccine for COVID-19 at unprecedented speed, we struggle against the rise of science denial and misinformation. Since 2020, we have had to face a terrifying truth: It's not if we'll experience another pandemic, it's when. How do we prepare? Planning Miracles tells the stories of the committed scientists at the front lines, fighting back against societal distrust and panic, monitoring the threats that exist, detecting outbreaks early, and developing new interventions as quickly as possible. Renowned science reporter Jon Cohen travels from the mountains of Vietnam to the rainforests in the Amazon, from the "wet" markets in Cambodia to fairgrounds in the United States, exploring how we can better defend ourselves against the growing threat of pandemics, and he finds surprising--and encouraging--answers. Cohen meets scientists sampling bats, pigs, wild birds, poultry, and insects to hunt for the next dangerous virus. He visits labs developing next-generation vaccines with cutting-edge technology that aim to protect us from entire viral families. Cohen discovers the unexpected links between climate change and the spread of disease and describes efforts to improve the equitable distribution of vaccines, diagnostics, and data sharing around the world. Weaving together history, reportage, and science writing, Planning Miracles is revelatory and necessary--providing hope that if we work together to plan for the next pandemic, we can avoid disaster.

27 Beats Per Minute

2025/09/02 出版

'A very special book that I enjoyed enormously' Cees NooteboomA dazzling ode to life, literature and Paris, the French capital that even in emptiness and desolation will always be magnificent. Soon after Henk Pr繹pper moves from Amsterdam to Paris, both the world and his heart almost come to a full stop. He undergoes major surgery and awakes in an empty city in lockdown. Paris is transformed into an abandoned stage. To quicken his recovery, Pr繹pper begins walking. He combs his immediate surroundings, he hunts for the past, discovering countless commemorative plaques and monuments that honour well- and lesser-known Parisians and keep their histories alive. Pr繹pper also reflects on his own life and the literature that has shaped him. In this way, he walks in the footsteps of literary heroes such as Victor Hugo, of Balzac and of Camus. 'One of the most moving and most invigorating autobiographies ever written. This is a finely polished gem worthy of admiration' Knack 'A concise masterpiece that summarises a life in the time of the pandemic in the personal, euphoric and precarious shades of one year. Without one's realising, it covers just about everything: thoughts, emotions, literature, films, loves, feelings, memories, annoyances and doubts' Vrij Nederland 'Philosophical, reflective, and with the pleasantly slow heartbeat of a writer who carries the reader through the city, European literature and history' het Parool Translated by Emma Rault.Epilogue translated by Sherry Macdonald.

Doctors, Here Is My Leg

2025/08/22 出版

The experiments contained in this book were observed twenty-five years ago. This testimony highlights the relationship between white coats and patients, woven in a particular environment. This book gives readers the opportunity to realize what progress has been made and what adjustments need to be accomplished for the sake of our community health. However, this remains a call to action for requesting actors on the road or in hospital settings to be accountable after their acts and actions. Specifically, in chapter 5, we can read, "In these places, people eat voraciously: always financially, often morally, sometimes physically," whether in the USA or in Africa. The biblical parable of the exchange between Abraham and the rich man (Luke 16:19-31) regarding the possible message of Lazarus to be delivered to the stunned living leads us to better prepare ourselves for the conditions of the hospital bed where we often spend our last hours before the final journey to the afterlife. Thus, a call for engaged citizenship is launched so that everyone invests more of their resources in what matters most to our families: financial education and the cosmos of health.
