The Effectiveness of Diet and Exercise in Preventing Type 2 Diabetes among Individuals with Impaired Glucose Tolerance in the UK
Academic Paper from the year 2023 in the subject Health - Public Health, language: English, abstract: The purpose of this systematic review is to assess how well diet and exercise work in the UK for those who have impaired glucose tolerance in order to prevent type 2 diabetes mellitus. The data was collected using a number of search engines, including Ovid, MEDLINE, PubMed, and Scopus. Research was done using PRISMA criteria. A total of 1200 studies were extracted based on the titles and articles. Upon deeper inspection, only nine, nevertheless, match the necessary data on the acceptability, efficacy, and effectiveness of diet and exercise intervention therapy in IGT patients. The main finding that unites all studies is how successful lifestyle changes are at postponing or averting the onset of Type 2 Diabetes (T2D). Every study shows how crucial it is to alter one's lifestyle, whether it be through dietary changes, regular exercise, or culturally relevant therapies, in order to reduce the risk of diabetes. The results of multiple studies have come together to show how effective lifestyle changes are in preventing and treating Type 2 Diabetes (T2D). The consistently beneficial effects on glucose tolerance, which also highlight the therapies' potential to postpone the onset of type 2 diabetes due to impaired glucose tolerance, attest to their efficacy.
(Re)Designing the Continuum of Care for Older Adults
This book broadens the visioning on new care environments that are designed to be inclusive, progressive, and convergent with the needs of an aging population. The contents cover a range of long-term care (LTC) settings in a single collection to address the needs of a wide audience.Due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, rethinking the spatial design of care facilities in order to prepare for future respiratory and contagious pathogens is one of the prime concerns across the globe, along with social connectedness and autonomy in care settings. This book contributes to the next generation of knowledge and understanding of the growing field of the design of technology, programs, and environments for LTC that are more effective in infection prevention and control as well as social connectedness. To address these issues, the chapters are organized in four sections: Part I: Home- and community-based care; Part II: Facility-based care; PartIII: Memory care and end-of-life care; and Part IV: Evidence-based applied projects and next steps. (Re)designing the Continuum of Care for Older Adults: The Future of Long-Term Care Settings is an essential resource for researchers, practitioners, educators, policymakers, and students associated with LTC home and healthcare settings. With diverse topics in theory, substantive issues, and methods, the contributions from notable researchers and scholars cover a range of innovative programming, environments, and technologies which can impact the changing needs and support for older adults and their families across the continuum of care.
Politics and Healthcare
This book explores politics and the role it plays in healthcare and our daily lives. Nurses navigate politics when they read a paper, watch the news, explore the internet, and interact with others at home, work, school, church, civic organizations, and volunteer activities. However, many nurses avoid opportunities to engage in politics locally because of the word's current negative connotation.Beginning with a comprehensive look at the birth of our Republic and its founding document, the U.S. Constitution, this book explores the history of our political system and the intersection of politics, healthcare, and nursing from the 1800s to today. Nurses' roles in social challenges, policy development, advocacy, board service, and developing political awareness are highlighted. Nurses who have served in Congress and others who have run for office locally and regionally provide advice for their colleagues who are unsure how, or if, to begin their involvement. It concludes with an in-depth look at the first campaign school exclusively for nurses and the different skills required for advocacy and candidacy. This is not a policy manual or treatise from a political organization. It is designed for all nurses who want the world to be better, but don't know how to begin achieving it. It is an opportunity to explore policy and politics by focusing on what the nurse reader is passionate about and how to best attain his/her goals. Some readers will like the historical perspective; others will be intrigued by social challenges; others will embrace advocacy and/or board service; and still others will value policy involvement. Some nurse readers will enhance their political awareness and participation, with a few entering the political arena. There is something here for every nurse.Nurses must be politically aware and involved to advocate for healthcare changes and policies that will benefit our society. This book will show them how to begin that journey one step at a time.

Women with substance use disorders have unique experiences compared to men, including complex histories, mental health disorders and trauma from intimate partner violence. Additionally, it is estimated that many of these women have children, and approximately 60-70% of Australian children were removed from households where substance abuse was present. LEARNING GUIDE & JOURNAL for Reflective Practice, Third Edition
A nurse's work is multifaceted, medically complex, technically precise, and physically demanding. But nursing-the act of caring-is also social, emotional, impactful, and personal. Because nursing education programs prioritize the importance of the technical and physical aspects of nursing, that is what they teach. This leaves practicing nurses poorly equipped to understand the science of caring and unprepared for the constant stream of emotional and psychological stressors that come with this profoundly important work. The unintended consequences of this omission include burnout, toxic work environments, and exodus from the profession. This guide is designed to work as both a companion and a stand-alone resource for integrating the teachings and learnings from Reflective Practice: Reimagining Ourselves and Reimagining Nursing, 3rd ed.. Reflection is crucial for personal and professional growth and development as it allows us to analyze and learn from our experiences. Each chapter begins with learning objectives and subjectives to emphasize the importance of fully integrating cognitive, psychomotor, and affective learning into our teaching and learning. Micropractices, small-scale reflective activities, encourage readers to seek deeper insights and learn more tools for improving both self-care and caring for others. Learning narratives and reflective questions are also included in each chapter. Learners may use the Reflective Practice Learning Guide & Journal as part of a class, for personal journaling to renew and revision themselves, or as a part of systematic professional growth and development. Educators can use the guide for their own professional development, renewal, and regeneration or as an accompaniment to classroom or clinical learning experiences with any level of learner.

R. Morrow, RN, PhD., Nursing Science Quarterly "This book addresses the issue that all nurses eventually face at one time or another in their career, a loss of passion. The author takes readers on a journey to recapture their passion...Every nurse should read this book." -V. Hedderick, Doody's Review Service As relevant today as it was when the first edition was published in 2012--likely even more so after the devastation of COVID 19--Dr. Vidette Todaro-Franceschi delves deeper into issues surrounding professional quality of life (PQOL) for nurses and the intricate connection to caliber of care and healthcare outcomes.
