Enjoy Self-publishing
I've self-published for over ten years. I've seen the industry start, take off and mature. I've seen tactics, companies and people come and go. However, over that time, a few important principles have always held true, but in the morass of advice of varying quality it can be hard to separate the wheat from the chaff. In 2017, I wrote the Unboxed books, a series of four books about how to publish sustainably, and by that I mean in a manner so that you can keep doing it long-term, and how to use your mailing list to set up a self-perpetuating sales vehicle. While the strategies haven't changed, many of the peripheral situations have. In short: we have far more and better tools, but far more competition, not only from other authors on the sales front, but also from services that entice us to spend ever more money before we publish. This book is my ultimate guide to what you need, what you can try, and what is likely to be a waste of your money and time. Over more than 500 pages I talk about the unvarnished experience of self-publishing and selling books while keeping control of my catalogue and not funding anyone's private jet in advertising costs. I wrote this book to pay it forward to the community. I don't sell courses. I don't do affiliate marketing. I have no vested interest in anyone's self-publishing journey. Except for this: I want you to enjoy it.

Community Literacy Journal 18.2 (Spring 2024)
COMMUNITY LITERACY JOURNAL 18.2 (Spring 2024) The journal understands "community literacy" as the domain for literacy work outside mainstream educational and work institutions. It can be found in programs devoted to adult education, early childhood education, reading initiatives, lifelong learning, workplace literacy, or work with marginalized populations, but it can also be found in more informal, ad hoc projects. For COMMUNITY LITERACY JOURNAL, literacy is the realm where attention is paid not just to content or knowledge but to the symbolic means by which it is represented and used. Thus, literacy makes reference not just to letters and to text but to other multimodal and technological representations as well. We publish work that contributes to the field's emerging methodologies and research agendas. CONTENTS: Editors' Introduction by Isabel Baca and Natasha N. Ghostwriting Novels
You don't have to have fame or fortune to have an idea for a novel. You do need to know what to do next, and that is where most ideas sputter and die. GHOSTWRITING NOVELS is for any authors thinking of hiring help to get their idea down on paper, and for any writers who suddenly find ghostwriting opportunities opening up for them.Authors will learn how novels are put together, and what they can or should expect of their writer. Writers will learn how to adjust their tried and tested skills to writing from inside the head of another person. From both points of view, this book goes through all the steps needed to ghostwrite a novel: Developing that initial idea into a plot that will make a gripping story. The common mistakes to avoid. The legal, financial and practical aspects to take care of.Above all, this book shows how ghostwriter and ghostwritten can work together in a rewarding partnership to turn that initial idea into the dreamed-of reality - a novel.
The issue of linguistic standardization of signs in actor-translators
In this paper, we discuss the means for linguistic standardization in the Virtual Teaching and Learning Environment (VLEA) of the Letras - LIBRAS course, which presents such linguistic variation in the use of signs by deaf actor-translators that, at times, the students of the course felt confused. To carry out this investigation, we started from the problem of variation in translation practice, identifying the difficulties and, aware of them, indicating alternative paths. As a working methodology, the actor-translators were interviewed about their doubts, suggestions and difficulties in dealing with variations in the translation of signs for a virtual course and, subsequently, there were informal conversations with students on the course about the results of the proposed changes to the translation process and linguistic standardization. As a practical result of the discussions proposed in this work, we came up with a technical glossary that enables the linguistic standardization project in the translations carried out in the course.

Contemporary Nigerian Novels
This book evaluates selected contemporary Nigerian novels as literary reflection of the contesting orientations and interests. In doing this, the selected writers expose an incident of synergy of political and religious structures in the perpetuation of oppression, exploitation and antagonism. This situation is therefore a signification of relationship between contesting vested interests of the secular and religious elites and the power, socio-economic and cultural aspects of the Nigerian social formation. The findings reveal that spiritual enterprise and manipulation of religion are driven by vested socio-economic interests of political and religious elites. The findings also reveal that hegemony is causal factor of widespread poverty, power antagonism, social fragmentation, class conflicts as well as manipulation if religion. The study has found that contemporary Nigerian novels are such modernist texts which are not defined by linear plot in the sense that the stories of the selected novels are narrated in disjointed manner in order to depict social fragmentations in Nigeria.

Vasarely's vocabulary
The history of art knows relatively few painters who, in addition to practicing their craft of executing drawings, paintings and frescoes, were also concerned to talk, and above all write, about their works, their technique, themselves and their contemporaries, or, in general, their "philosophy of art". Among the most illustrious are Leonardo da Vinci and Delacroix, but there are also a few "moderns", such as Maurice Denis and Paul Signac. Vasarely, too, was one of those artists who had a lifelong "desire to write". His preoccupation with language, not to say lexicography, accompanied his artistic activities from the moment he arrived in Paris in 1930. As an iconoclast, he changed the semantic understanding of words as "banal" as cr矇er, cr矇ateur or cr矇ation, not to mention expressions such as alphabet plastique, cit矇 polychrome, folklore plan矇taire or unit矇 plastique. These - despite comprising words that, separately, have nothing new in terms of their signifiers - will be filled in his usage with meanings never seen before.
An Anthology of Bilingual Child Phonology
This edited book is a collection of studies on protolanguage phonology, referring to the development of children's autonomous linguistic systems from their first meaningful forms to complete cognitive and articulatory acquisition of language. The volume comprises chapters on child bilingual phonological development, understood as the acquisition or use of more than one linguistic code, whether actual languages, dialects, or communication modes, in an array of contexts. Such contexts include endogenous and exogenous bilingualism, heritage language, bilectalism, trilingualism, and typical and atypical use. The contributed works here will be of interest to researchers and postgraduate students investigating language acquisition in bi-/multilingual settings, as well as those working on child phonological development across a variety of languages.

Beyond Language
This ethnographic work examines both the colonial language governmentality imposed by the Turkish state and the Kurdish language activism as a response to this system. Through a genealogical study, it calls for a reconsideration of the linguistic condition in Turkey as being more than nationalist, highlighting its foundation in intertwined ideologies of racism, imperialism, and colonialism. It then provides an analysis of new possibilities and directions led by the actors of the Kurdish language movement, which seeks to enhance not only the linguistic but also the socio-political condition of the Kurdish people by taking a "beyond language" approach. The work advances our thinking about language oppression and minority language activism.
Grammatical Categories in Linguistics and Education
This volume explores how grammatical categories, as defined by theoretical linguistics, are effectively implemented in language education. Aiming to bridge the gap between linguistic research and language pedagogy, it offers a detailed inquiry that spans theoretical frameworks and empirical data. By presenting a series of insightful studies, this work illustrates how findings from theoretical linguistics can be applied to enhance practical language instruction, demonstrating the reciprocal enrichment of both fields. Essential for linguists, language educators, and researchers interested in the intersections of grammar, cognition, and pedagogy, the volume is organized into four engaging sections. Each section illuminates the nuances of grammar teaching and language acquisition. It begins with a theoretical analysis of linguistic categories across diverse languages, progresses through the links between linguistic research and teaching methodologies, and delves into the role of empirical data in classroom applications. The final section focuses on the practical implementation of linguistic categories in language teaching, promoting a deeper understanding of grammar as a dynamic component of language learning.

Behind the concrete wall and the invisible curtain
During the Cold War, the inhabitants of countries aligned with the Soviet socialist regime suffered from the most general restrictions, such as the curtailment of the right to free movement, control of the economy and food shortages, but also from the constant threat of nuclear war. In addition, citizens who were denounced as enemies of the state were persecuted by the political police, who manipulated them through surveillance, physical violence and emotional destabilisation. The atmosphere of repression, fear and violence were components of a disturbing reality that created the conditions for cumulative trauma. The aim of this work is to see how the traumatic experience of these times and the strategies of resistance to trauma are represented in literature written after the end of the communist dictatorship.

Linguistic Counter-Standardization
Language standardization is problematic because it imposes the dominant group's linguistic variety as the only correct one and promotes the idea of unit thinking, i.e., seeing the world as consisting of bounded, internally homogeneous units. This volume examines intentional practices to subvert such processes of language standardization (what we call counter-standardization practices) in language education and other contexts. By suggesting alternative classroom pedagogies, language reclamation processes for indigenous populations, and discourses about (mis)pronunciation, this volume explores more liberatory approaches: the post-unit thinking of language.
