This volume tells the story of the Arabic translations of the Church Fathers. By tracing the history of major translation centres, such as Palestine, Sinai, and Antioch, it describes how Middle Eastern Christians translated into Arabic, preserved, and engaged with their Patristic heritage. In addition to well-known authors, such as Gregory of Nazianzus, Ephrem the Syrian, and Dionysius the Areopagite, the volume presents a Patristic treatise written in Greek but preserved only in Arabic: the Noetic Paradise. Editing Archipelagic Shakespeare is a study of the power of names; more specifically, it is about the power of naming, asking who gets to choose names, for what reason, and to what effect. Shakespeare assigns names to over 1,200 characters and countless more sites and places, and these names, or versions of these names, have become familiar to generations of playgoers and play-readers. And because of their familiarity, Shakespeare's names, most frequently anglicized versions of non-English names, have been accepted and repeated without further consideration. Approaching names from an archipelagic perspective, and focusing upon how Irish, Scottish, and Welsh characters and places are written by Shakespeare and treated by editors, this Element offers an expansive, and far-reaching, case study for non-anglophone and global studies of Shakespeare, textual scholarship, and early modern drama.

This paper analyses the text 'Pequena Hist籀ria da Rep繳blica' (Little History of the Republic), by Graciliano Ramos, which is part of the book Alexandre e outros Her籀is (Alexander and Other Heroes), considered to be aimed at children and young adults and little discussed by Brazilian literary critics. In this way, a more in-depth analysis is made, presenting the text as a literary artefact in relation to historiographical discourse. Although it is also commonly treated as a historical chronicle or a satire on Brazilian historiography, it cannot be ignored that the selection and composition of the narrative was carried out by a distinguished writer, capable of transforming varied issues and aspects of Brazilian society into literary material. The text is therefore approached as a literary discourse of critical reflection on the formation of the republic in Brazil, taking into account the relationship between history and literature from the perspective of sociological criticism. In addition, we investigate the structural components of the work and how they contribute to the construction of a re-presentation of the Brazilian republican period through a critical look at historical discourses.

This book addresses the issue of how to teach English via movies. The book is composed of two parts: theory and practice. In the theory section, the author analyzed Joker using the Word Cloud, Auto Code, and Word Frequency functions of NVivo R1 to see what is happening in the text. A strategy for acquiring vocabulary, combined by the author and Ahn, was provided to speed up the process of students developing the words. In the practice section, the entire script of Joker. The author's edited version focused on words, translation, and idiomatic expressions directly linked to listening comprehension.

Notes on Poetry was put together as a teaching aid meant for my second and third year students studying English and American literature. It consists of ten chapters each built on one of my favorite poems utilized here as sample texts for analysis. My objective was to illustrate different ways of approaching and analyzing poetic texts, and to offer students the necessary theoretical knowledge and terminology to do so. The most important goal, however, is to encourage students to read poetry and also to try their hand at writing analytic studies.

The emergence of Semi-English medium schools reflects the linguistic and cultural diversity of Pandharpur Tehsil, where Marathi is the predominant regional language alongside English. These schools cater to the linguistic needs of students from diverse backgrounds, providing a bilingual education that combines proficiency in English with the preservation of regional language and cultural identity.

Translation also gave mana to particular stories about Hawaiians--some empowering, others harmful--creating a clash of narratives that continue to this day. These tales often feature vulnerable characters facing challenges and adversity. By analyzing the way these characters are portrayed, we can better understand the themes and messages conveyed by this form of oral literature. Sigi depict a wide range of vulnerable characters: abused children, orphans and abandoned children, widows and exploited women, the elderly and the sick, strangers and social outcasts, even executioners who become vulnerable in the end. These characters are often discriminated against, abused or scorned by the community and by cynical or sadistic predators. Their vulnerability is physical, social, economic and psychological. In sigi, vulnerable characters often play a central role in the plot.

A Descriptive Phonology of Ngamo
This book presents a descriptive phonology of Ngamo - a member of West Chadic 'A' branch of Chadic language family of the Afroasiatic Phylum - spoken in some areas of Darazo Local Government of Bauchi State, in some areas of Dukku and Nafada Local Governments of Gombe State and in some areas of Gulani, Fika and Fune Local Governments of Yobe State, northeastern Nigeria. The book is an attempt by the author to capture relevant phonological aspects peculiar to Gudi and Yaya dialects of the Ngamo language which are spoken in the eastern and western parts of Ngamo area, respectively. The book is divided into ten chapters which covers Ngamo consonant and vowel phonemes, Ngamo consonant and vowel distribution, syllable variations, tone polarity and tone correspondence, phonological process and allophonic realization. In conclusion, the book states some differences and similarities in Ngamo dialects. Finally, the book presents some lexical items in respect of Gudi and Yaya varieties of the Ngamo language.

In this book, Vidal presents a new way of translating indigenous epistemologies. For centuries, the Western world has ordained what knowledge is and what it should be and has also been responsible for transmitting that knowledge. This "universal" knowledge has traveled to the four corners of the globe.In recent decades, there has been a steadily growing interest in dialogical epistemologies. Disciplines ranging from historiography and philosophy to anthropology are calling for this universalist idea of knowledge to be modified. Thanks to this change of perspective, other forms of knowledge, which until now have been ignored, are gradually coming to light. Indigenous knowledges are not constructed with the scientific, binary, static, Cartesian, or univocal logic characteristic of Western societies. Non-Western types of knowledge incorporate senses, emotions, body, objects, and matter. It is impossible to reduce indigenous knowledges to Western conceptualizations. The types of translation covered in this book assume that knowledge is not transmitted only in the Western way and that there are world views that take into account the emotions and body, as well as the intellect. This includes all types of beings: human, non-human, and extrahuman. In the face of this plurality of epistemologies, this book affirms that the static Western conceptual traditions characterized by a binary logic are not useful and that there is a need to translate outside the scope of these traditions.The examples given in this book show that translation is not only a process involving Western and non-Western languages. Translation is not a mere substitution of one word for another because knowledge is not only transmitted through words. It also involves non-verbal elements. Knowledge is transmitted through objects, songs, sensations, and emotions, as well as through words. Moreover, many non-Western traditions do not translate with language systems but rather with other semiotic systems, such as knots, threads, colors, and bodies in movement. This is a timely, topical, and transdisciplinary reading, of interest to advanced students and researchers in translation studies, anthropology, and beyond.
Echoes of memory
This book is the result of a master's thesis that sought to analyse Umberto Eco's 2004 illustrated novel The Mysterious Flame of Queen Loana. Based on studies of memory and identity within the work, it provides an overview of the construction of Eco's narrative and its unfolding in terms of content, observing the peculiarities of the construction of time-space and the narrator-character and, in this way, finds a parallel between the history of the novel and the history of the composition of Italian identity. It addresses the themes of the Second World War and its influence on the construction of the Italian ideology, as well as the influence of Pop Art on the construction of the narrative, which is related to the era in which it is set, as well as drawing a confluent line between the concepts of individual memory, collective memory and plant memory, the latter being a concept of the author of the novel himself. What this analysis proposes is confirmation of the relationship between the author, the work and the reader, who are the components of the narrative pyramid that gives the work its full meaning. In this way, the interpretation of a literary text is relativised, and this is one of the possible analyses of this rich novel.

We have entered into the era of artificial intelligence, neural machine translation, and especially large language models which have dramatically changed the landscape of human translation practices. On the one hand, translation technology has remarkably improved translation efficiency and reduced the cost of translation; on the other, it has brought about some issues related to translation quality, translator competence, translation ethics, and so on. The eight chapters in this volume can be divided into two groups: the contributions by Chinese authors and those by authors from other countries. Among the Chinese contributors, Wang Fang makes a comparative study of the Chinese-English translations by ChatGPT Translate and Baidu Translate, concluding that ChatGPT's human-computer interaction-based translation will bring new insights from the AI era to translation practitioners, translation learners, and technology developers. Yang Qiong makes a case study of the genre-based manual quality evaluation of Chinese-English translations produced by Google Translate, Baidu Translate, Sogou Translate, Youdao Translate, and human translators, suggesting that machine translation developers should leverage advanced AI language technology to develop an AI-assisted MT training system capable of interpreting nuances for more sophisticated translations. Prateek Kumar reviews the main types of MT that have been proposed and developed over time: rule-based, statistical, hybrid, and neural MT, aiming to present an overview of the state-of-the-art in MT, identify key challenges and issues that MT faces today and tomorrow, and outline some possible ways out of them.
