On any given day, millions of people will read e-books. Yet many of us will do so while holding them apart from 'real books'. The fact that a book can be worthy - of our time, money, respect, even love - without being 'real' is a fascinating paradox of twenty-first century reading. Drawing on original data from a longitudinal study, Laura Dietz investigates how movement between conceptions of e-books as ersatz, digital proxy, and incomplete books serves readers in unexpected ways. The cultural value of e-books remains an area of intense debate in publishing studies. Exploring the legitimacy of e-books in terms of their 'realness' and 'bookness', Dietz enriches our understanding of what e-books are, while also opening up new ways of thinking about how we imagine, how we use, and what we want from books of every kind. In the late 1970s, after several years as a New York cabbie, with meager success as a freelance writer, he and his wife, Mary Lydon, took the $4,000 she had earned as a freelance copy editor and bet it all on Dublin. It was romantic and pragmatic and they won. In the second third of the 17th century, Racine devoted himself to the theatrical genre of tragedy, and more specifically, to the psychological study of his heroes. Racine's tragedies are of fundamental interest for their meticulous study of characters, reflecting their emotional and affective state as they act out their roles. In this respect, the stylistic approach based on multiple interpretations of the gaze is of major importance in highlighting the psychology and actions of the heroes that lead to tragedy. Racine draws on the lexical repertoire of pastoral and neo-Platonic vocabulary for the gaze, but gives it new meaning. On the one hand, the heroes' gaze remains dazzled and immobilized before the being that fascinates it, seeking communication in order to assert its presence. On the other, feelings arise from the hearts of the characters, who remain dominated by their desires. Finally, the spirit intervenes to question the profound nature of the upheaval the beings are undergoing.

Ruins of a Dream
Ruins of a Dream is the result of research conducted between 2015 and 2016 on the novel El hombre que amaba a los perros (2009), by Cuban author Leonardo Padura. In a formal analysis of this work, the research looked at the position of its narrators, the construction of its characters and the structuring of its plot, understanding its literary functioning as a cultural symptom of contemporary consumer society. Thus, the pastiche of noir detective literature engendered by the author was discussed, as well as his non-realistic ways of figuring the story, situating the book in the midst of the aesthetic and ideological panorama of post-modernity. The aim was to clarify the dialectical relationship between the novel's narrative form and Cuba's current process of historical transition - which is leading the island towards integration into the world system of late capitalism.

Editing Archipelagic Shakespeare is a study of the power of names; more specifically, it is about the power of naming, asking who gets to choose names, for what reason, and to what effect. Shakespeare assigns names to over 1,200 characters and countless more sites and places, and these names, or versions of these names, have become familiar to generations of playgoers and play-readers. And because of their familiarity, Shakespeare's names, most frequently anglicized versions of non-English names, have been accepted and repeated without further consideration. Approaching names from an archipelagic perspective, and focusing upon how Irish, Scottish, and Welsh characters and places are written by Shakespeare and treated by editors, this Element offers an expansive, and far-reaching, case study for non-anglophone and global studies of Shakespeare, textual scholarship, and early modern drama.
Teaching Movies Effectively via NVivo R1
This book addresses the issue of how to teach English via movies. The book is composed of two parts: theory and practice. In the theory section, the author analyzed Joker using the Word Cloud, Auto Code, and Word Frequency functions of NVivo R1 to see what is happening in the text. A strategy for acquiring vocabulary, combined by the author and Ahn, was provided to speed up the process of students developing the words. In the practice section, the entire script of Joker. The author's edited version focused on words, translation, and idiomatic expressions directly linked to listening comprehension.
Notes on Poetry
Notes on Poetry was put together as a teaching aid meant for my second and third year students studying English and American literature. It consists of ten chapters each built on one of my favorite poems utilized here as sample texts for analysis. My objective was to illustrate different ways of approaching and analyzing poetic texts, and to offer students the necessary theoretical knowledge and terminology to do so. The most important goal, however, is to encourage students to read poetry and also to try their hand at writing analytic studies.
Once upon a time in 1889
This paper analyses the text 'Pequena Hist籀ria da Rep繳blica' (Little History of the Republic), by Graciliano Ramos, which is part of the book Alexandre e outros Her籀is (Alexander and Other Heroes), considered to be aimed at children and young adults and little discussed by Brazilian literary critics. In this way, a more in-depth analysis is made, presenting the text as a literary artefact in relation to historiographical discourse. Although it is also commonly treated as a historical chronicle or a satire on Brazilian historiography, it cannot be ignored that the selection and composition of the narrative was carried out by a distinguished writer, capable of transforming varied issues and aspects of Brazilian society into literary material. The text is therefore approached as a literary discourse of critical reflection on the formation of the republic in Brazil, taking into account the relationship between history and literature from the perspective of sociological criticism. In addition, we investigate the structural components of the work and how they contribute to the construction of a re-presentation of the Brazilian republican period through a critical look at historical discourses.

Translation has had a massive impact on Hawaiian history, both as it unfolded and how it came to be understood, yet it remains understudied in Hawaiian and Indigenous scholarship.
