Old Delhi's Parallel Book Bazaar
This Element looks at Old Delhi's Daryaganj Sunday Book Market, popularly known as Daryaganj Sunday Patri Kitab Bazaar, as a parallel location for books and a site of resilience and possibilities. The first section studies the bazaar's spatiality - its location, relocation, and respatialisation. Three actors play a major role in creating and organising this spatiality: the sellers, the buyers, and the civic authorities. The second section narrativizes the biographies of the booksellers of Daryaganj to offer a map of the hidden social and material networks that support the informal modes of bookselling. Amidst order and chaos, using their specialised knowledge, Daryaganj booksellers create distinctive mechanisms to serve the diverse reading public of Delhi. Using ethnography, oral interviews, and rhythmanalysis, this Element tells a story of urban aspirations, state-citizen relations, official and unofficial cultural economies, and imaginations of other viable worlds of being and believing.
Selling Books with Algorithms
In 1997 Amazon started as a small online bookseller. It is now the largest bookseller in the US and one of the largest companies in the world, due, in part, to its implementation of algorithms and access to user data. This Element explains how these algorithms work, and specifically how they recommend books and make them visible to readers. It argues that framing algorithms as felicitous or infelicitous allows us to reconsider the imagined authority of an algorithm's recommendation as a culturally situated performance. It also explores the material effects of bookselling algorithms on the forms of labor of the bookstore. The Element ends by considering future directions for research, arguing that the bookselling industry would benefit from an investment in algorithmic literacy.
Reading and Producing Texts
The study "Reading and Writing: the textual genres in circulation among students in Technical Education integrated to High School" analyzed the proposals for teaching reading and writing of textual genres worked on by teachers of different subjects at the IFRS - Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio Grande do Sul, Bento Gon癟alves campus. The proposal was based on a preliminary observation by the researcher, a Portuguese Language and Brazilian Literature teacher at the institution, who noticed the common use of some textual genres in specific technical subjects in the areas of IT and farming, as well as in subjects in the high school curriculum. The genres identified and selected for interdisciplinary work were the review, the report and the script for a video lesson teaching the use of the CSS command table, designed to teach the construction of websites. The research prioritized reflection on the teaching methodology and the students' written production, while also questioning whether the genres in question suited the students' needs, both in school and in their personal and professional lives.

Teaching Cultural Dexterity in Creative Writing
Aimed toward graduate student instructors and other creative writing educators, Teaching Cultural Dexterity in Creative Writing offers a formula for important changes in creative writing instruction-especially in literary/creative nonfiction, probing how instruction might become more inclusive and accessible for minoritized/marginalized student-authors. The book chapters use antiracist, trauma-informed, and anticolonial frameworks toward exploring the 21st-century professional, theoretical, and institutional concerns surrounding creative writing practices in North American higher education. As a result, the book explores ways creative writing pedagogies and theories might be adapted for racially and linguistically marginalized (by English) student-authors, who often inhabit minoritized positions within North American colleges and universities. Applying as a frame the notion of cultural dexterity as it is taught to medical professionals to allow them to engage effectively with patients from all backgrounds, ethnics groups and with all sensitivities, Teaching Cultural Dexterity in Creative Writing examines why and how creative writing instruction needs to be urgently renegotiated. In this essential text for all creative writing instructors, McCray provides all the tools necessary to take positive action with discussions of potential readings, writing prompts and sample course materials.
A New Linguistic Perspective of Literary Aspects
A Linguistic Study of Literary Aspects. Language and literature form such an organic relationship that it is impossible to separate one from the other. The language of literature is a large spectrum of concepts, ideas, emotions, and excitements which operate harmoniously in the mind of the author at the moment of artistic creation. It would appear in a form that evokes feeling and calls for various thematic interpretations on the part of the reader. Language to the author is the way by which she/he expresses herself/himself to the reader. Literary language is manipulated by its users with great care and complexity than the average language user can show.

His works delve into the deepest corners of Indian society, revealing the oppressive nature of its most entrenched structures patriarchy, caste, religion, and politics. The book meticulously examines how Tendulkar hold a mirror to society, revealing the often hidden but deeply influential role that these institutions play in shaping human behavior. The Court is in Session, Sakharam Binder, and The Vultures. It is closely allied to "presenting", although the latter is more often associated with commercial activity. Most of the time, public speaking is to persuade the audience.
The Price of Books
"Most people have not yet learned to regard books as a necessity. They will beg them, they will borrow them, they will do everything, in fact, but buy them. People... who will unhesitatingly pay 8 shillings apiece for a dozen gramophone records... will think twice, if not three times, before spending even 5 shillings upon a book which will last a lifetime." -Sir Stanley Unwin, The Price of Books (1925). The Price of Books (1925) is an essay by Sir Stanley Unwin about the state of book publishing in early twentieth century Britain. While he explains the mechanics of book pricing in ways that are similar to the early twenty-first century, he laments that books are not appreciated enough and often too cheap in proportion to the publishers' costs. This essay offers an engaging glimpse into publishing for students of history, publishers and others interested in the world of publishing.

Modern tragic theater
This is a study of the tragic in modern theater in the works of Eugene O'Neill and Nelson Rodrigues. Why Eugene O'Neill and Nelson Rodrigues? Firstly, because they are two playwrights I admire and have been interested in for many years. Secondly, specifically considering the subject of this work, they are authors who, for the first time in the dramaturgy of their countries, presented an original and revolutionary formulation of the tragic, transforming the archaic structures of the theater in force at the time of the premieres of their first plays. This is a work of great interest to lovers of theater, especially the works of these two great writers.
Power Verses Civilization
William Golding's Lord of the Flies serves as a profound exploration of human nature, particularly the innate depravity of man, shaped by his experiences during World War II. The novel reveals Golding's discovery of humanity's darker impulses, emphasizing his belief that civilization is fragile and easily disrupted. This theme is reflected in the transformation of the boys on the island, showcasing how their descent into savagery reveals the beast within-an allegory for humanity's inherent evil. Golding critiques the changes in civilization, illustrating how quickly societal norms can erode under the influence of unchecked power dynamics. The novel remains relevant in contemporary society, prompting critical reflections on moral behavior in extreme circumstances. Through symbolism and allegory, Lord of the Flies invites readers to confront the complexities of human nature, highlighting the eternal struggle between civilization and savagery while serving as a cautionary tale about the darker aspects of humanity.

While opening up to the French language, Maghrebi writers remain deeply rooted in their own culture, drawing inspiration from daily life and age-old traditions to enrich their writings.

Epiphany in Clarice Lispector
The reader has before him an incomplete book about the epiphany in Clarice Lispector, so what is done here are provocations. The density of the author's literary work could not be covered by a single work; many, many interconnected studies would be needed to research this literature. However, every endeavour, great or small, must have a beginning. Take this work, reader, as an initial walk through one of the many characteristics of Clarice Lispector's work, the epiphany. Even the most passionate readers need a guide or a helper on the journey that is delving into the peculiar traits of complex authors; the exact case of Clarice. I challenge the reader to leave this book without wanting to read The Hour of the Star, or to re-read it. One of the main aims of this book is to illustrate certain passages of the author's existentialist literature, using literary theory. Epiphany in Clarice Lispector: the act of revisiting the new is an interpretative act of those who never tire of searching what they like and know for what they need to know, in other words, the continuous and constant integration between the 'new' and the 'old'.
Chinese Creative Writing Studies
This book charts the development of creative writing, bringing it from China to the world. As the second volume of Chinese Creative Writing Studies, the first of which introduces Chinese creative writing to English-speaking readers, this book expands on the first in further developing theories and research on creative writing pedagogy in the Chinese context, and in Hong Kong particular, looking at creative writing within cross-media practices, and the implications for creative writing in global contexts. The volume does so by presenting both local and international voices to expand the horizon of Chinese creative writing development. Structured in four parts, the book begins with leading Chinese scholars' reflections on research and field. The second part focuses on the interlinkages between creative writing and pedagogy in Hong Kong. The third section discusses poetic thinking and therapeutic writing to highlight their relationship with the personal and community. Lastly, the book takes a global perspective to examine the pedagogy and practice of creative writing through interviews with leaders in the field. It is relevant to researchers, teachers, and students interested in creative writing, particularly Chinese creative writing, but also those working in comparative contexts, both culturally, and in terms of cross-media perspectives.

Neuropsycholinguistics
Scientific knowledge is a set of theoretical understandings based on scientific thinking. There are clear methods of scientific study of the essence of complex, diverse and colorful phenomena, laws of development of nature, society and human thinking. They determine the direction of scientific research. Language and speech together are a common subject. All their principles are equally important because neuropsycholinguistics is also responsible for the relationship between language and speech. There is always something new in this field of science. Cognitive principles - the brain and its relationship to language - are important for language acquisition and categorization. Although this work is very complex and difficult, a person can be healed with a good word. Because the word is also a source of energy in controlling the mind. This is one of the almost unsolved problems of neurolinguistics. The brain is a mysterious world, if we study it from the point of view of the influence of speech, the way we perceive language, the way we speak, it becomes easier. With the development of neuropsycholinguistics in recent years, there is an increasing need for in-depth knowledge of the nature of these phenomena.

The dictionarization of beekeeping terms in Libras
Law No. 10.436/02 officially recognizes the Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS) as a language. In addition, Decree No. 5.626/05, which regulates this law, ensures not only that this language is taught in teacher training courses, but also that educational institutions are responsible for disseminating and promoting research in the area of Brazilian Sign Language. In view of this, the aim of this work is to produce a bilingual dictionary in the field of beekeeping, both in Portuguese and in LIBRAS, based on the lack of this material, which is so significant for communicational accessibility. The research methodology is bibliographical, exploratory and qualitative. In order to select the technical terms, the work went through four stages: the dictionary of sign terms, research into beekeeping manuals, such as EMBRAPA - Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (2007); SEBRAE - Micro and Small Business Support Service (2006); Magalh瓊es and Borges (2012), among others.
Manguebeat essays
As we know, globalization, or the third stage of world capitalism, has led to the colonization of contemporary cultural models, thus causing culture to be absorbed by the market, and increasingly imposed around European and American nuances. The media and advertising have become enormously important based on this reference to culture, generating a market-based production in which it is no longer possible to talk about anything that is not linked to this new reality. As a result, the cultural product is increasingly becoming a commodity, accentuating the discussion about its immunity from the influences of capital in post-modern society, as Pellegrine suggests (1999, p.181). This stage of capitalism is marked by the consumption of the commodity itself as a process, where old vestiges of the past can be found, creating a systemic continuity of the old only with new packaging.
The Word and the World
This book is an attempt to examine language in its referential and non-referential (figurative) aspects. Whether it is a work of literature or theory, writers and readers are confronted with the problem of language in both its aspects. It is often hard to determine where word and thing connect or fail to connect, irrespective of the nature of the discourse. Moreover, every articulation is likely to be as much about something other than, outside or beyond itself. The language of communication can incorporate elements of discourse and vice-versa.

Symbolic Representations
It is unquestionably true that many literary writers employ symbols, signs, images and imagery to express profound connotations that are beyond the surface implications of their work. Symbolism has become a vital concept that is used not just in our everyday life but also in literature to represent or express qualities and ideas. This study aims at proving that Non-Verbal Communication (NVC), apart from it being culturally situated, can be of universal semantic implications. For example, waving of hands, nodding of the head to show acceptance or agreement, winking of the eyes to show love and invitation among many extra verbal means of communication. Symbolism is often used by writers to enhance their writing and give insight to the reader.
Speaking competence of G-11 students in using english as 2nd language
Recent studies show that the quality of education in the Philippines is continuously declining (Racca and Lasaten, 2016). This scenario is also evident in Magallanes National High School where the author is teaching. As observed, the students have hard time expressing their thoughts using English language. A typical scenario would be students show reluctance in presenting their ideas when an activity requires oral response. It has been observed that they tend to avoid eye contact with the teacher in hopes of not being called to answer. Some students even divert their attention as if they do not hear the teacher asking. This study is conducted to determine the relationship between the personal profile, linguistic competence, and speaking anxiety of the students to their speaking competence. At the same time, the study aims to determine their level of speaking competence. In the long run, the results of this study will open opportunities for teachers and future researchers in the pursuit of improving the speaking competence of students through providing activities that will help the students improve their conversational skills.

The book presents various types of song used by the Congolese to express their deepest feelings. In fact, many people are content with the melody without paying attention to the message conveyed by the author, whereas there is a hidden intention behind each song.So we began by listing the different songs, from the so-called traditional ones to those of modern music, where we drew out the themes developed, including the semantics of each song.In fact, the latter reflects the author's or community's vision of the world, and is characterized by the lessons to be learned. It appears as a means par excellence of communication aimed at different social strata, with the aim of harmonizing internal relations.Nowadays, it has been proven that song also facilitates the release of tension and helps to achieve catharsis to a certain extent, especially in the case of so-called traditional or even religious songs. To help understand the communities targeted in the analysis, an ethnological presentation preceded the exploitation of the songs.
Translation Beyond Translation Studies
What is 'translation'? Even as the scholarly viewpoint of translation studies has expanded over recent years, the notion of 'translation' has remained fixedly defined by its interlinguistic element. However, there are many different contexts and disciplines in which translation takes place for which this definition is entirely unsuitable. Exploring translational aspects in contexts in which scholars do not think about 'translation', this book considers the alternative uses of the term beyond the interlinguistic dimension. Taking our understanding of 'translation' back to its basic semiotic principles, leading experts outline the wide variety of alternative fields of study, practices, applications and contexts in which the term 'translation' is used. Chapters examine 11 different fields of study, exploring what the term 'translation' means, how it is used and what it could contribute to an enlarged understanding of 'translation' as a concept. In this way, the volume argues for a reimagining of what we mean by translation, providing an essential reference for anyone interested in how translation is understood and practiced beyond the narrow perspectives of the field of translation studies itself.
Reimagining Literacies Pedagogy in the Twenty-first Century
This book sheds light on the array of transformative literacies in the Global South, which English language teachers and educators seek to integrate within their pedagogical practices. In English language teaching (ELT), there is an increasing need for a shift away from dominant literacy thinking, knowledge and practices that originate in the Global North. This collection brings together contemporary research and practice on how literacies are theorized, challenged, embedded and enacted in ELT practice in the Global South. It showcases research that focuses on the intersections of multiple literacies and English language pedagogy, and how these fuse with the social, cultural, historical and political realities of contexts where English is a foreign, second or additional language. The authors provide insightful examples of pedagogical research and practice that reinvigorate a wide range of literacies often invisible or silenced in both the 'North' and 'South'. These include multicultural literacy, critical environmental literacy, digital multimodal literacy, the interplay of visual literacy and local culture, multiple literacies in ELT racializing practices, multiliteracies pedagogies for teacher agency and social justice. With a focus on the diverse contexts of South America and Africa, some chapters in this volume leverage their unique socio-cultural and socio-political contexts to foreground the literacies experiences and practices of students, teachers and educators in ELT settings that contribute to improved language learning experiences.
