Write for Your Life
In the 1980s, Lawrence Block developed an interactional seminar that adapted elements of the human potential movement specifically for writers. For several years he and his wife, Lynne, traveled the country conducting seminars that focused on the inner game of writing, and designed to enable participants to get out of their own way and put their best work on paper. This book was written to make the seminar available to a larger audience.Block self-published it in 1986, in an edition of 5000 copies, which sold out in short order. A few years later he stopped offering the seminar, having tired of the guru trip and preferring to concentrate on his own writing, and ever since the book's been impossible to obtain. When eBooks came around, Block arranged for HarperCollins to publish Write For Your Life in that format. But it's the sort of text one wants to be able to page through, and a printed book is just more user-friendly. In the fall of 2013, an assistant found the last box of 25 copies of the 1986 edition in a storage cupboard; Block offered them in a newsletter, and they sold out within three hours. This is the original book, with a foreword bringing it up to date. With the book, as with the seminar, it doesn't matter at all where you are in your writing career, or what kind of writing you do. That's all beside the point. Write For Your Life is about making the best out of what you are and who you are.

Effect of Time on Writing
Many investigations have been conducted to examine the latent factors that may affect the writing performance of ESL/EFL learners. Among them, time has been identified as one of the major factors that may activate the limited attention capacity model (LACM)-a framework considered to exhibit compelling power over the memory processing system. This mechanism may result in possible turbulence in the interactive relationship among writing complexity, accuracy, and fluency (CAF). The current understanding regarding this aspect, particularly the influence of time on Taiwanese university-level EFL student writing CAF, remains limited. To better understand how the time variable alone may impact the LACM and, hence, writing CAF, the researcher of this study scrutinized the textual outputs created by 43 EFL participants who composed essays given two different timeframes, specifically, 30 minutes and 50 minutes. Both inferential and descriptive statistics were used to analyze the resultant data. The results revealed explicit trade-off models between complexity and accuracy/fluency. This study concludes with pedagogical implications and suggestions for future investigations.
V. S. Naipaul
The book entitled V. S. NAIPAUL: POST-COLONIAL MELANCHOLIA is about the oeuvre of V.S. Naipaul who won Nobel Prize of Literature in 2003. This book is an intensive study of the migrants; of Indian coolies; their hopes and aspirations; failures and fatalism; their cultural disruption and longing to go back to their homeland. The Indian collies were displaced people confused and bewildered. When they arrived in Fiji they referred the island as hell. Hartz (1991) refers to the" "grirmit ideology" as fossilized and regressive. They were a motley group of illiterate Indians migrated to these lands for money and security of life. Naipaul has discussed the dilemmas and predicaments of the colonized people who were the victims of the cruel politics of indenture. Terry Eagleton observes that this ideology is "affective, unconscious, mythical and symbolic" representing the historical sufferings of the coolies whose ancestors signed an unholy bond with the capitalist traders. The coolies signed the indenture rupturing age old traditions. Naipaul has depicted the cultural changes and the dilemmas of the migrants when they arrived in new alien land.
Iconoclasm in Selected Short Stories of Alice Munro
Literary critics have argued over the status of women in the world and their self-development of their literary and cultural position in literary works. Women's oppression, self-complication, and self-recognition are worldly studied. In this respect, this thesis aims at exploring how Alice Munro has violated the established norms of writing in order to give women the chance to speak. It can be classified as a postcolonial study because Munro tries to deconstruct the centre: it is both the metropolitan and patriarchy. Moreover, she has used postmodernist techniques in order to distort both the west and men. This topic has been chosen for many reasons. First, Munro is a staunch feminist whose oeuvre gives due respect to women's problems. Theme of woman/country recurs in most of her works; this accentuates that Canada cannot get its full independence without emancipating women from patriarchal restrictions, and the constraints of society.
Attitudes towards the Use of Songhay as a Language of Education in Gao (Mali)
The choice of a language of education and people's support of that language have always been a great concern for most Sub-Saharan African countries. Mali makes no exception to that rule. At independence, and for the preservation of national unity, the Malian government opted for the colonial French language as its sole language of education, administration, politics, etc. The limitations to that language policy later on drove successive governments to gradually introduce the native languages into the educational system. However, after the experimentation, introduction, and generalisation of those languages into the educational system, very few (if any) studies have been carried out to determine the attitudes of the people whose children use those media of formal education. This research has been undertaken to determine how people of Gao feel about Songhay as the language of education of their children at school. The researcher administered questionnaires to headmasters and teachers and carried out interviews with key school stakeholders in Gao.
Memory and Consecutive Interpreting
In recent studies, interpreting, as a main way for communication among people with different language, has attracted the attention of many researchers. Consecutive interpreting is one type of interpreting that requires skills such as target language reorganization and short-term memory. Considering the crucial role of memory in interpreting, the present study aims to examine relation between memory and consecutive interpreting and also investigate the influence of memory on consecutive interpreting quality. This book can be proper source for interpreting teachers to identify and describe their objectives and to provide student's needs. The present book also is useful for syllable designers of this field to plan and structure this course and syllabus to effectively reach desired instructional goals. Another main point which makes this book significant is to provide students logistical information they will need to success in the course.
Critical Essays in Modern English and American Poetry
At the threshold of the twentieth century, English and American poetry witnessed tremendous changes in form and content due to the influences of the two Great Wars, the Great Depression and the political conflicts that shaped the new ideologies and peoples' new realizations of them. Ezra Pound's motto "make it new" embodies such kind of tendencies that prevailed throughout the modern times. This book sheds light on the main trends that shaped modern English and American poetry.
Feminine Sensibility in the Short Stories of Eudora Welty
The literary history of the American South since the Civil War has been fascinating. In more recent times on account of modernization, consequent upon industrialization and urbanization, there has been a decline in the spiritual and ethical values in the Mothern America South. And these find expression in the literature of the times. Although there were few women writers in the nineteenth century, their number increased in the twentieth century.
The Use of Intensifiers in the Language of Advertising in English Media
This book provides an image of the effect of the use of intensifiers in the language of advertisement in English media. It is based on a study which has been conducted so as to show how the advertisers implement the language of the media, with special reference to the use of intensifiers, so as to fulfill social, psychological as well as commercial effects upon the address. A number of commercial advertisements have been elicited as the data to be manipulated. The data analysis involves providing information about using parameters such as boosters and downtoners. The findings could be valuable to scholars such as media language specialists, Applied Linguists, Sociolinguits and Psychologists.
The Translation of Polite Requests From English Into Arabic
Polite requests are expressed by means of syntactic structures and lexical items. However, their performances pose a problem for requestees and translators. In fact, they are context bound. Once the requester requests something by producing an utterance, he will perform three acts, namely lucutionary act, illocutionary act and perlocutionary act. So, the translator does not know which act should be translated, unless he is aware of the intention of the requester. Another problem is that means of expressing polite requests in English and Arabic are not identical. These means are culture and language specific.
A Qualitative Assessment of Machine Translation of English Legal Texts
The current study carries out a qualitative and descriptive assessment of Arabic translations of three machine translation systems: Google Translate (GT), Bing Translator (BT) and MateCat (MC). The corpus used in this study constitutes three English-authentic legal texts: A Notice upon Conviction of a Misdemeanor Crime Involving Domestic Violence (ELT1); A Marriage License (ELT2); and A Special Power of Attorney (ELT3). The study attempts to answer three research questions: To what extent the selected MT systems are able to provide a functional translation of the ELTs as specified in Nord's (1991) Skopotheies Model?; In what way can the errors within the machine translation influence the function of the source text by examining the intra-textual and extra-textual factors specified in Nord's (1991).

Elements of Fiction
Following his essential writing guide, This Year You Write Your Novel, award-winning author Walter Mosley delivers an eloquent treatise on the craft of fiction writing--part writing guide, part study of the mechanics of the genre. In his essential writing guide, This Year You Write Your Novel, Walter Mosley supplied aspiring writers with the basic tools to write a novel in one year. In this com-plementary follow up, Mosley guides the writer through the elements of not just any fiction writing, but the kind of writing that transcends convention and truly stands out. How does one approach the genius of writers like Melville, Dickens, or Twain? In The Elements of Fiction, Walter Mosley contemplates the answer. In a series of instructive and conversational chapters, Mosley demonstrates how to master fiction's most essential elements: character and char-acter development, plot and story, voice and narrative, context and description, and more. The result is a vivid depiction of the writing process, from the blank page to the first draft to rewriting, and rewriting again. Throughout, The Elements of Fiction is enriched by brilliant demonstrative examples that Mosley himself has written here for the first time. The Book of Dialogue
The Book of Dialogue is an invaluable resource for writers and students of narrative seeking to master the art of effective dialogue. Writers will find Turco's classic an essential reference for crafting dialogue. Using dialogue to teach dialogue, Turco's chapters focus on narration, diction, speech, and genre dialogue. He notes, "Plato wrote lies in order to tell the truth. That's what a fiction writer does and has always done." Now it's your turn.

Book Indexing For AuthorsHow to create a professional nonfiction index in Word
An index could be the thing your book is missing. Take a look in a library or bookstore and you will find few nonfiction books that don't have indexes. That's because publishers know how important the presence of an index is to readers - and therefore how vital it is for sales. Indies often don't realize this - and miss out on potential sales and potential good reviews.A book index is like a guidepost or map for your readers. It tells them what to expect from your book, where to find topics that interest them, and - importantly - what isn't in the book. This means that it reduces the chances of poor reviews and increases the chances of positive reviews. An index helps usability, which makes it more useful to readers. If you are an author thinking of creating your own index, you're in good company. There is quite a precedent for author-indexes (especially in the world of academia, where subjects are so specialist that it's hard to find a professional indexer with relevant experience).
