In Power from the Podium: The Story of Black Olympians Tommie Smith and John Carlos, Dr. Ptahsen-Shabazz captures their brave spirits and greatness as never before.

The use of ballet in high-level rhythmic gymnastics training
Among the numerous definitions of rhythmic gymnastics, we can present it as an art and as a sport. As an art, it is conceptualized as the search for beauty, an explosion of talent and creativity, in which bodily expression and technical virtuosity develop together, forming a harmonious whole of movement and rhythm. As a sport, it is essentially a female sport, which requires a high level of development of certain physical qualities, with high performance requirements, aiming for technical perfection in the execution of complex movements with the body and apparatus.

Crowdfunding in German Association Football Clubs: Identifying Supporters' Drivers to Invest
This thesis analyses the potential of crowdlending and crowdinvesting to be a valuable financial alternative for professional football clubs in Germany. Given the increasing importance of crowdfunding in other business areas and the necessity for German football clubs to access alternative approaches to financing, the perception of football clubs and supporters with regard to crowdfunding was investigated. The question is whether the fans, who are associated with the club due to their loyalty, could become financing partners. By applying Commitment-Trust Theory, this study examines the antecedents of supporters behavioural intentions to invest and their effect on the key mediating variables of Fan Loyalty and Trust. Semi-structured interviews with financial managers of the football clubs and an online survey with fans (n = 712) were conducted. This sample data was analysed using Structural Equation Modelling. Among three rival models, the partial-mediating model was able to explain 81.4 % of the variance of the sample data. According to the results, the key driver for supporters' Willingness to Invest is the intrinsic, other-orientated motivation called Perceived Meaningful Contribution. This study has added knowledge to theory by applying the Commitment-Trust framework to crowdfunding motivation within the context of professional German football. Furthermore, the practical contribution is derived from the recommendations for football clubs on how to frame crowdfunding campaigns by highlighting the rewarding feeling of helping their club and the meaningfulness of projects.

High Summer
The updated second edition of a hiking classic: High Summer, the true story of the first thru-hike of Canada's Rocky Mountains. The full end-to-end traverse on foot of Canada's Rocky Mountains is one of North America's greatest hiking challenges. By the late 1980s, it had never been completed. When long-distance backpacker Chris Townsend heard about the route, he couldn't resist it.The Canadian Rockies offer everything a wilderness connoisseur could desire. There are glaciated peaks, forested valleys, remote tracts where solitude can be found, and abundant wildlife-grizzly bears, wolves, moose and wolverines among them. From celebrated national parks in the south, to vast undeveloped regions in the north, the range is filled with natural wonders... many only accessible to a lone traveller on foot.In June 1988, Chris Townsend set out to discover this range for himself. With no set route to follow, he pioneered his own path, first linking established trails, then heading cross-country into a trackless land. He walked, not to be the first to complete the route, but instead to treasure the journey, and above all to spend long enough in the wild for it to come to feel like home. Challenged by rough weather and even rougher terrain, sometimes navigating from suggestions received in frontier settlements or by dead reckoning, his backpacking skills were pushed to the limit. He began the journey as a hiker, but over 1,600 miles had to evolve into something more: an explorer.First published in 1989, this new and updated edition of High Summer features a new introduction by the author, new footnotes, and over 100 black and white photos from the hike, many never before seen. Written by a passionate advocate for wild places, and told with honesty and authenticity, High Summer will take the reader on an engrossing journey into a wilderness that very few people will ever experience for themselves.
HIIT Training on Military Pentathlon Physical Performance
The military pentathlon is a sport that combines 5 events (rifle shooting, obstacle course, swimming with obstacles, grenade throwing, and cross country running) and it is here where low performance of the ESMIL cadets was detected, the objective of the study was to apply an intervention with high intensity HIIT interspersed circuit training. For this, a quantitative research of quasi-experimental approach was applied, with a non-probabilistic sampling by convenience to a group of 7 cadets aged 21.14 簣 0.9 years for 12 weeks, with a training structure of (6 exercise x 20 sec of work x 4 series and a micro recovery of 20 sec and macro of 60 sec). For the collection of the results, a strength evaluation was applied before and after the intervention; once the data were collected, they were analyzed with the statistical program SPSS version 25. With this it was possible to verify that the data complied with normality, the parametric Student's T test for related samples was applied, where it was determined that the 5 strength tests had a significance > 0.05, thus proving the improvement of the cadets' performance.

Set against the backdrop of a martial arts dojo, this book provides a comprehensive curriculum that integrates lessons on character and values into martial arts practice, helping young students navigate the complexities of adolescence with strength and integrity. Each chapter focuses on a core value-such as The Power of Character, Integrity, Empathy, Resilience, Dependability, Patience, Humility, Kindness, Self-Discipline, Courage, Adaptability, Perseverance, Respectfulness, Gratitude, Fairness, Generosity, Optimism, Curiosity, Responsibility, Creativity, and Self-Awareness-and provides instructors with the tools and strategies to teach these principles effectively. The book also emphasizes the instructor's role as a mentor and role model, guiding students in their journey toward becoming not just skilled martial artists, but also individuals of strong character. Each chapter includes reflection prompts and journaling activities to encourage students to think deeply about how the values apply to their own lives, helping them to build self-awareness and a sense of personal responsibility. The Art of Character is more than a training manual; it is a blueprint for developing well-rounded, value-driven individuals who can face the challenges of adolescence and beyond with confidence, kindness, and a strong moral compass. The Strategic-Tactical Conception in Handball
There are different ways of conceiving Handball and the other Collective Sports Modalities (CSM). We will start from the Strategic-Tactical Conception in order to propose a certain way of conceiving, appreciating, understanding and dealing with these CSMs in the teaching-learning-living-training process. We will emphasize the possible dialogue between the strategic-tactical conception and the proposal to train intelligent players. Another aspect to be taken into account is that in both art and sport, among other human activities, there is the possibility of developing creative intelligence. Our aim is to discuss these potentialities from the perspective of seeking other power relations between coaches and players, but also to seek to play the game in its most developed and complex form, not limiting ourselves to an impoverished experience with it; this also justifies the reflection we propose to make here. Although quite essayistic, the literature and analysis based on how the Brazilian handball national teams are working contribute to giving concreteness to the reflections, and in this way, discussing the case for training intelligent players in Brazilian handball at the moment.
Mike Mentzer
Bodybuilding's foremost nonconformist and strikingly handsome intellectual, Mike Mentzer, rose to the top of his sport despite opposition from industry insiders like rival Schwarzenegger. Written by his close friend of two decades, Mike Mentzer: American Odysseus chronicles Mentzer's journey in a fiercely competitive world to become one of the most iconic bodybuilders of all time. "This is the definitive text on the life of bodybuilding's greatest iconoclast ... A towering achievement." -- Jack Neary, former senior editor of Muscle & Fitness magazine Mike Mentzer was a strikingly handsome man with a brilliant mind and a "perfect" physique -- the first bodybuilder to receive a perfect score in both amateur and professional competitions. In the late '70s, Mentzer rose to the very top of his sport (despite the efforts made by industry power brokers, such as Arnold Schwarzenegger), was featured in GQ magazine, and profiled on national television. But he was also a man who wrestled with mental illness his entire life and ended up living on the streets and being sent to prison. Just when it seemed his career was over, he found it within himself to reboot his intellect and revolutionize bodybuilding training, arguing bodybuilders should not forsake their mental development in favor of developing their bodies. He became a pariah in the fitness industry (which only cared about selling supplements and other products) but a hero to legions of fans who earnestly sought truth. Mike Mentzer: American Odysseus is the first biography of Mike Mentzer to appear in North America written by his close friend of 21 years, John Little, "one of the leading fitness researchers in North America" (Iron Man magazine). Drawing upon audio recordings, letters, diary excerpts, as well as interviews with those closest to him, this is the true story of one man who stood up to an entire industry -- and paid the ultimate price.
Blinded by the Lights
Using the lens of arguably the state's most popular sport, Blinded by the Lights: Texas High School Football and the Myth of Integration describes the highs and lows in the ongoing battle for equal educational opportunities for all Texas students. According to former Texas A&M athletic recruiter Don Albrecht, the high school football team, often the most visible symbol of the community, was frequently caught in the historic crossfire in local struggles over segregation. While noting the importance of the courageous individuals who fought to desegregate Texas public schools, Albrecht examines how the progress made in the 1950s and '60s has largely been eroded. He argues that Texas schools are more segregated today than they were in the 1970s, when Brown v. Board of Education had been the law of the land for 16 years. "Texas schools were separate and unequal in the 1950s," he says, and continues, "Texas schools are unequal today." Based on interviews occurring over a 30-year period coupled with extensive statistical analysis, Albrecht demonstrates that the balance of power in Texas high school football has shifted toward wealthy suburban schools that tend to be predominately white. These schools are also producing more students who are attending and graduating from college, becoming successful doctors, lawyers, and engineers. In contrast, students attending the disadvantaged schools, with student bodies made almost entirely of minorities and individuals living at or below the poverty line, are struggling in everything from football to academics. "All of us," he says, "are paying the costs resulting from providing an inadequate education for large segments of the population." Blinded by the Lights: Texas High School Football and the Myth of Integration provides a powerful new perspective on the consequences of institutionalized inequality in education.

Wrestling Is My Gimmick
For someone whose career spanned nearly four decades, Barry Horowitz might have the lowest winning percentage in professional wrestling history. But there's a reason why his name reached household levels among fans of the sport. Wrestlers who put on a deliberate losing performance (known as "jobbers") provide the starting points for the game's top names, and Horowitz was always there to help every new generation of talent rise to the next level. He took all the moves. He made them all look good. He absorbed every pin and submission. And then he came back to do it for someone else. From the local federations in Florida to years in the World Wrestling Federation, Horowitz helped launch the careers of wrestlers from Ric Flair to the Ultimate Warrior to Kane to Bill Goldberg, and everyone in between. This book presents the life and career of Barry Horowitz. From his life outside the ring to his storied career in professional wrestling's most unsung role, this biography hopes to shed light on why Horowitz was so committed to an industry who sometimes failed to return the favor. From Horowitz comes a tale of defining one's own success and doing the best for the toughest of businesses--and about becoming a cornerstone in a part of pro wrestling that's commonly underrated, but an integral part of the trade!
