Time moves on, cultures change with the twists of history and secret arts are lost. To understand the essence of karate, kobudo and te is to read and digest this work. To devour the mysteries of the secret principles it records is to dwell in a former time, only then will the reader know the true meanings of what the masters passed on. This book was a classic of the 20th century and, with the passing of time, is now considered to be an historic record for the modern era; both a time capsule and an integrated tool of knowledge transmission. Also featuring contributions from the latest breed of expert researchers, this Expanded Third Edition keeps the original version alive in its entirety, while bringing the Okinawan karate world up to date, as it expands into an ever-increasing international world. Be warned though, it also answers questions that have not been asked until now and topics that could not have been discussed, while expanding on newly debatable issues. This is what the masters were really saying
Zen Odyssey, An Okinawan Karate & Martial Arts Journey
An entertaining odyssey by all means, which all readers, not only karate-ka, can enjoy. The work describes a fascinating 'voyage of discovery' through the Okinawan martial arts during the author's younger years. Both informative & factual, the work leads the reader on a journey of initiation from the preliminary stages of being a 'live-in disciple' of Goju-ryu & trainee of Matayoshi Kobudo in post-Reversion Okinawa, as he travels with the reader through the exploration of Uechi-ryu, Shorin-ryu & Okinawan te; also of a vast spectrum of connected Ryukyuan cultural entities. His attention to detail is commendable, as the shared expedition becomes an esoteric odyssey to find the zen spark of enlightenment that evades so many seekers, but which can be found within one's own nature. Mark D Bishop is arguably the foremost authority on historical Okinawa karate & martial arts. He continues to write, travel, research and teach extensively on various aspects of these, including its related anma bodywork & zen.

The Official Constitution of the Universal Martial Arts Federation
A way forward for many independently minded martial artists; this is the Official Booklet of the Universal Martial Arts Federation (UMAF), a worldwide organisation set up to register practitioners, styles (new & old), schools, clubs and dojo that believe in non-aggressive martial arts as a method of achieving health, longevity, self-defence and a means of giving to society, without the emphasis on taking life. The booklet gives examples of grading systems, guidelines on expected conduct, as well as listing the officers of the UMAF and how to contact them for registration and advice. New styles are encouraged to develop, alongside established systems, while non-damaging forms of self-defence, along with martial-art-based methods of repairing bodies and minds (such as anma, shiatsu, dynamic bodywork & katsu)that have been affected by previous improper and damaging training, are also encouraged.

Tricks of Self-Defence, A Useful Book for Everybody (Collector's Edition)
Probably the 1st English book to record the use of pressure points in self-defence. This historic work was a breakthrough in its day & remains a classic. Until the publication of 'Tricks of Self-Defence, A Useful Book for Everybody', in about 1910, most of the English books on jujitsu and connected martial arts dealt more with the systems in question. These were often quite complicated & took time to master. W. H. Collingridge's concept was to publish a practical, illustrated textbook for the everyday person, outlining the effective applications that anyone can easily pick up for self-defence. The result was this book, which graphically outlines 33 'Standing Positions', and 9 'Ground Tricks'. All of these require little space to practise and notably some use arm or wrist grappling, while applying pressure to nerve points. In these respects, 'Tricks of Self-Defence, A Useful Book for Everybody', is considered to be the 1st of its kind in English to record Japanese techniques of applied practical self-defence.
The Fast Ride
In an era of spectacular thoroughbreds, Spectacular Bid was perhaps the most exalted racehorse of them all. In 1979 he won the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes--and transcended his sport on a run of twelve consecutive stakes victories--but his quest for the Triple Crown was lost with a third-place finish in the Belmont Stakes due to a series of bizarre events that have never been accurately reported. In The Fast Ride, Jack Gilden tells the story of what really happened that day the Bid lost the biggest race of his life. Along the way, he introduces the reader to a cast of characters from the gilded age of late twentieth-century horse racing, from Bid's owners, the renowned Meyerhoff family, to Grover "Buddy" Delp, the fast-talking trainer, to teenage jockey Ronnie Franklin, whose meteoric rise to fame aboard Spectacular Bid came at the cost of his innocence and well-being. Also present are four of the era's magnificent Latino riders, ?ngel Cordero Jr., Jacinto Vasquez, Georgie Velasquez, and Ruben Hernandez, who all felt the sting of rejection and bigotry during their long careers even as they found their way and raised the level of competition to a feverish pitch. Underlying Spectacular Bid's saga was a thin line between hard work and excess, including substance abuse, animal manipulation and doping, and race fixing. Hardly anyone in the horse's circle made it out unscathed or undamaged. The Fast Ride is the story of a great racehorse, unfulfilled dreams, the exhilaration and steep price of striving at all costs, and an American era in which getting everything you ever wanted could be the most empty and unfulfilling sensation of all.
THE TEXT-BOOK of JU-JUTSU as practised in Japan (Collector's Edition)
Mystery and intrigue surrounds much of the life of the founder and practitioner of Ju-Jutsu, the self-styled "professor", S. K. (Sada Kazu) Uyenishi. However, he was one of the first and probably the most influential jujitsu and judo experts to demonstrate, teach and compete in these arts outside of Japan. From the shadowy "Baritsu" exponents in the stories of Sherlock Holmes, to Inspector Clouseau's sidekick Cato of Pink Panther notoriety and James Bond's Odd Job, he of the stage name "Raku" has provided the entertainment industry with many stereotypes. Sada Kazu Uyenishi even influenced the seeming erratic, yet expertly controlled, screen pranks of the masterful Charlie Chaplin; but who was S. K. Uyenishi in real life? Find out more about him and his uniquely 'soft' style of Ju-jutsu, from reading this authentic presentation of his book.
Karate Self-Defence & Okinawan Dance (Collector's Edition)
The traditions of karate have transformed in diversity, as its popularity has spread worldwide. The work of Seihin Yamanouchi, in relating karate and Okinawan Te to dance, was a crucial element in this process. His influence on bringing these connections to the surface of the martial-art scene in Okinawa and mainland Japan was profound and quietly took hold among certain teachers. Regarding these, the most obvious name is Seikichi Uehara. He established Motobu-ryu in 1947, which was based on udun-di, the type of Te formerly taught to Okinawan royalty. In the 1970s, he began a series of community demonstrations, with the theme 'Dance & Martial Arts', that served to both show the connections of these two elements, while beginning to unscrew the locked doors of Te. Other directly influenced parties were: Tatsuo Shimabuku of Isshin-ryu karate, Seitoku Higa of the Bugeikan & Eizo Shimabuku, of Shorin-ryu. Clearly then, the soul of Seihin Yamanouchi and his book remain as an eternal testament to this research.
Okinawan Te, In the Footsteps of The Masters
Known for its knock-out strikes, fluid footwork & bladed weaponry, Okinawan te is a survivor that has endured due to its ability to adapt to social changes. In 1609, in order to suppress Okinawa's developing military might & vast trading links, the Japanese Satsuma clan launched a massive invasion & subjugated the island kingdom. Until then, te had been a bushido battlefield system, with organised castle & naval warfare. However, under Satsuma's rule, the Okinawan bushi, could no longer bear arms in public or have standing armies, so te was transformed into a personal fighting system & recreational activity. Within karate, Okinawan dance & music, the hidden essence of te still provides the framework. It fills Okinawan cultural life & keeps its subtle social machinery revolving. In this detailed work the foundation stones of Okinawan te are laid out through the explanations of historic technical photographs left by the masters for future generations; their forethought has enabled us to walk in their footsteps.

Ketogenic Bodybuilding
Initially, Robert Sikes embraced "bro dieting" in order to win bodybuilding shows. He soon found out, however, that the side effects were disastrous.Despite athletic successes, Sikes' high-carb, low-nutrient crash dieting led to imbalanced hormones, a lowered sex drive, diminished strength and an unhealthy relationship with food. Struggling with disordered eating, Sikes could see no way out of his self-created hell-until, that is, he found the ketogenic diet. After seeing drastic improvements in his gym performance, relationships and overall health, Sikes pioneered a new method of natural bodybuilding that leveraged a ketogenic protocol with high dietary fats and nutrient-dense foods. The wisdom gleaned from his rigorous self-experimentation is compiled in Ketogenic Bodybuilding, a comprehensive guide to achieving show-level conditioning by following a healthy, sustainable ketogenic plan.In Ketogenic Bodybuilding, readers will learn: The seven phases necessary for successful contest prep and reverse dietingThe mindset and manipulations required for success in each phaseNutritional meals with enough "caloric runway" to properly fuel the training demands How strategic ketogenic refeeds can control metabolism and help push through plateausThe three levers to manipulate for optimal cardio (and progressive overload training)Why safe "reverse dieting" after a show is as important as the prep itselfThe ins and outs of posing, tanning, exercise, supplements and moreIn Ketogenic Bodybuilding, Sikes has produced a guide that proves natural ketogenic bodybuilding isn't simply competitive; when used correctly, it is positively savage.

Naihanchi (Tekki) Kata
The heart of traditional karate is found within the kata. Naihanchi (Tekki) Kata is one of the original training forms and various versions of it can be found today in karate styles derived from the old Shuri-Te lineage on Okinawa. It is a vital part of karate's heritage handed down from the pioneering masters of our past. In this thought-provoking publication, Chris Denwood presents his own approach to traditional karate through Naihanchi Kata, featuring a step by step guide and an avid exploration of its true depth. Using five layers of analysis, Chris examines in detail how the movements of Naihanchi Kata represent a series of lessons, based on holistic themes and principles that when applied, show why this seemingly superficial kata has been revered by serious practitioners for generations. Volume one introduces the Kata, focusses on developing a solid foundation and investigates a number of the most important lessons on structure and dynamics to be found within the movements of the form.

Destination Unstoppable
In early 2015, I had the opportunity to bring my approach to the Cranbrook-Kingswood Boy's Varsity Hockey Team. They were talented but struggling and did not play like a cohesive unit. We ignited and harvested their competitive spirit, while at the same time, built a trust bank to deepen their commitment and connection to one another. They became unstoppable because they felt unstoppable. This story, chock full of leadership lessons, serves as a model for leading, accelerating, and fully harnessing the talent on a team. What does a former NFL player say about this book? "History is littered with gifted individuals and teams that failed to reach their full potential. You must invest in a player's strengths and the strengths of the collective to build a championship team. This book will teach you to discover the untapped talent on your team, and harness it to reach your Destination Unstoppable" - Ryan Diem, Super Bowl XLI Champion, Indianapolis Colts '01-'11

Detailed instructions are included for grooming horses, for their daily care, how to use tack and other equipment, and how to ride properly. In addition to being an important historical text, "The Art of Horsemanship" remains a helpful and informative guide for every horse owner and rider. This edition is printed on premium acid-free paper, follows the translation of Morris H. Morgan, and includes extensive commentary by the translator as well as a compilation of writings on horsemanship by ancient authors referenced by Xenophon in his work.
