Shea Stadium Remembered
Few remember that Shea Stadium--and indeed the Mets baseball club itself--arose out of a dispute between two oversized egos: New York City official Robert Moses and Brooklyn Dodgers owner Walter O'Malley. While O'Malley wanted complete control over a new stadium and all of its concessions in Brooklyn, Moses insisted that the stadium be built by the city in Queens and leased to the Dodgers. The impasse led to the Dodgers following the Giants out to the West Coast, where The City of Los Angeles granted O'Malley all of the concessions he had sought in New York. With now no National League team in the New York area, the National League office awarded a new franchise to the city in 1960 on conditional that it fund and build a new stadium, which the Mets (and later the AFL Jets) would lease. The stadium was named in honor of William Shea, the person most responsible for returning National League baseball to New York. Over its forty-four year existence Shea Stadium witnessed a colorful cavalcade of sporting and entertainment events, all detailed in this lively, skimable tribute to a memorable New York landmark. It's all here: the memorable games; the unforgettable characters such as Tom Seaver, Joe "Willie" Namath, and Seinfeld buddy Keith Hernandez; and even the solemn moments such as when Shea was used as a staging area for first responders after 9/11. By the time of its demolition in 2008, the Mets had played more games at Shea than the Dodgers had ever played at Ebbets Field, and the stadium had hosted seven National League Championship Series, four World Series, three Jets playoff games, and the American Football League Championship game in 1968.

Stattdessen liest man Schlagzeilen wie "Der Tennis-Boom ist vorbei" oder "Tennis ist tot". Das Tennisturnier in Wimbledon wird hierzulande bereits seit Jahren fast ausschlie?lich von Pay-TV-Sendern 羹bertragen. Diese Arbeit geht deshalb vor dem Hintergrund des einstigen Booms der Frage nach, ob Formate wie das im Fr羹hjahr publizierte Format " Ulitmate Tennis Showdown" einen solchen Boom wiederbeleben k繹nnen. Es soll gefragt werden, welche Resonanzdieses v繹llig neue Format erfahren hat und welche Potentiale aber auch welche Risiken sich f羹r den Tennissport daraus ergeben k繹nnen. Um sich dieser Zielvorgabe n瓣hern zu k繹nnen, soll zu Beginn auf die 繹konomischen Besonderheiten des Sports eingegangen werden. Dabei wird das sogenannte magische Viereck aus Sport, Medien, Wirtschaft und Publikum beleuchtet. Diese Grundlagen sollen im folgenden Kapitel zur Inszenierung des Sports in den Medien vertieft werden. Die hier aufgezeigten Entwicklungen beziehen sich insbesondere auf die Verbindung von Sport und dem Medium Fernsehen. Zun瓣chst geht es hierbei um die verschiedenen Merkmale von Mediensportarten. Darauf aufbauend sollen die Prozesse der medialen Spannungssteigerung betrachtet werden: die Mediatisierung. Die von Dohle und Vowe entworfene Mediatisierungstreppe steht hierbei im Vordergrund. Der sportliche Verlauf von 1860, gepr瓣gt von H繹hen und Tiefen, eignet sich als perfektes Fallbeispiel, um Inhalte aus den Bereichen Eventmanagement und Projektmanagement so realistisch wie m繹glich illustrieren zu k繹nnen. Da der TSV 1860 M羹nchen nicht nur, wie zuerst vermutet, den sportlichen Abstieg in Liga 3 verkraften musste, sondern auch aufgrund von Zahlungsunf瓣higkeit den Weg in die Regionalliga Bayern (4. Liga) antreten musste, liegt es auf der Hand, dass ein Umbruch, ein sogenannter Neustart, stattfinden musste. Oftmals ist bei solch sportlichen Niederg瓣ngen die Rede von einem Neustart bzw. Neuanfang im Sinne eines Projektes, wie es auch nach dem allerersten Abstieg in der Klubgeschichte des Hamburger Sportvereines aus der 1. Bundesliga der Fall war. Nicht nur die Presse, sondern auch die Verantwortlichen des HSV bezeichneten die Spielzeit in der 2. Bundesliga als "Projekt Wiederaufstieg" und machten damit deutlich, welche Ziele der Verein in der zweiten Liga verfolgt. Inwiefern man in solchen Abl瓣ufen aus dem Bereich Fu?ball von einem Projekt sprechen kann, wird im Laufe der Arbeit anhand Beispielen aus der Praxis verdeutlicht.

Several hundred sailing and motor yachts travel through the standing mast routes each year, many of them en route to the Kiel Canal and the Baltic. So, a little about me. I have lived aboard a boat since I was born; my parents moved aboard when they married. I currently live aboard my 1937 Alden cutter Atea in Wickford, Rhode Island. I have spent my entire life learning and practicing the ways of the sea and sailors. From intricate knotwork, scrimshaw, and ship models, to rigging, building, and operating of vessels. I have always loved the sea and enjoyed the traditions and arts of the seafaring man. Over the years I've held the positions of seaman, bo'sun, mate, and captain on many vessels big and small. I have built vessels, rigged them, and sailed them. My adventures have taken me along the eastern seaboard from Halifax, Novia Scotia down to the British Virgin Islands and Bermuda. I have been involved with various projects and serving the US Coast Guard as a consultant, rigger, and surveyor, as well as other outfits such as G. W. Zachorne, Jr. and Sons Boat Builders, Gannon and Benjamin Marine Railway, Beetle Boat Works, and Black Dog Tall Ships. My artwork, ship models, scrimshaw, and markinspike handiwork is scattered across the country and abroad. It resides in the New York Yacht Club model room, Broadway, museums, and organizations like the Rhode Island Arts Council.
