1960s Purple Sex Gas
Captain Daisy Daryl and her eccentric crew aboard Space Scrap 17 are back for another uproarious adventure in the galaxy's most unreliable garbage freighter. This time, their mission is to transport a banned substance, the infamous 1960s Purple Sex Gas, across the stars to save a pleasure planet from a deadly plague. Unbeknownst to them, the gas has mutated over the centuries. Anyone who touches it transforms into an eight-foot-tall, slavering death horror, intent on exterminating anything around it that has the audacity to be alive. Trapped in the cargo bay with these monstrosities, the crew must play a dangerous and hysterical game of cat and mouse through the bowels of the ship. All the while, they are racing against the clock to reboot their neurotic ship's computer before Space Scrap 17 plunges into a black hole made of limerent gravity. Alongside her unpredictable ex-lover Michigan Jones, the bio-enhanced and occasionally twerking Doctor Smiert, and the sarcastic ambassador-turned-assassin Tongue, Daisy navigates through absurd and perilous challenges. From confrontations with mind-bending telepaths to the antics of the bio-mechanoid Emergency Klaxons, the crew's journey is anything but smooth. The fate of New Amsterdam hangs in the balance, and it's up to this ragtag team to deliver the cure and avoid disaster. Filled with clever humour, side-splitting moments, and horrific puns, "1960s Purple Sex Gas" propels the space opera parody genre into new stratospheres of absurdity. Join Daisy and her crew as they tackle their most bizarre mission yet, proving that sometimes, life's a gas. And not in a good way.

Why Simple Things Are Difficult
This intriguing and unconventional book is for all those who experience the frustrations and flaws of our supposedly affluent, efficient, caring modern society.Using humour, anecdotes, real examples and occasional rants, this clear and candid book explores the authors growing frustrations with modern life and our society, where even the simplest things (like taps) are getting more difficult and complicated. With over 30 years of technical engineering experience spent questioning, comparing, contrasting, finding inconsistencies, making links between cause and effect, learning, and trying to understand what is wrong, his analytical outlook and view of society is perhaps different from many people. Here, these analytical skills, observations, humour and opinions, create a candid, witty, thoughtful and unconventional view of our society and its flaws. Each chapter challenges conventional ideas on the things we take for granted, including language, feedback, technology, business, finance and democracy, raising thought-provoking questions that you are encouraged to judge and consider for yourself. It looks at how society influences our behaviour, and the direction in which society is heading, before finally venturing into an alternative version of society that operates without tax, profit or political parties. This truly unique blend of humour, sociology and philosophy (along with a bit of engineering) provides a rare opportunity to see our society from a very different perspective, generating many ideas and questions for you to ponder and judge for yourself. This might be the most unusual book you read this year, but it may also change the way you view our society. It will also help to contribute to care charities for the homeless, aged and ill, as the author is donating all the profits from the sale of the book to these charities.

Funny Stuff
Funny Stuff is a tribute to a unique art form: the single-panel gag cartoon. It looks at why so many of us enjoy cartoons, and what makes for a great cartoon. Authors Phil Witte and Rex Hesner consider how cartoonists can present a complex or odd scenario that we immediately grasp, and what enables us to "get" the humor in a flash. Based on interviews with cartoonist legends--Roz Chast, Sam Gross, Harry Bliss, Joe Dator, Mick Stevens, and many others--Funny Stuff will show how cartoons reveal much about the psyches of their creators. For instance: Roz Chast, known for her neurotic cartoon characters, feared she might die taking a bath because the tub could crash through the floor. The text is abundant with cartoons illustrating the observations of Witte and Hesner. They point to cartoonists who rely on common situations (the desert island, Garden of Eden, hell) and stock characters (the pirate, business executive, scientist), as well as cartoonists who subvert these conventions. They analyze types of humor: absurd, dark, ironic, satirical. They address how the wording of a caption can mean the difference between a cartoon succeeding and almost succeeding, and the extra degree of difficulty required of the caption-less cartoon. They discuss cartooning as an art form, and specifically how the artwork of the best cartoons supports the humor. This book features a foreword written by Bob Mankoff, former cartoon editor at The New Yorker and a legend in the cartoon world.
Lymescale & Grime, Away From It All

The Bugeater Lunch and Supper Club
Mortgage loan clients of The Company sputtered these words: "Isn't this a mortgage company?!""Frankly, this whole thing has been like a Saturday Night Live episode."Can you relate?Revealed for the first time, those who were in the thick of it are writing about the mysterious underbelly of the mortgage banking industry from the origination side. Like a comical set of stories from a corporate frat house, these unique, real-world vignettes of a mortgage lender will open your eyes. They are far from representing the behind-the-scenes shenanigans of some backwoods company with obscure mortgage brokers. The Company was the preeminent mortgage banking firm in Northern Virginia and Washington, DC, during the late 1980s to mid-1990s.This book wipes the lipstick off the mortgage banking industry while answering the question borrowers wonder most about: Can I afford to buy a house? The American dream of homeownership - the most significant financial decision in the lives of many Americans - was entrusted to the hands of an infamous cast of characters, The Bugeater Lunch and Supper Club. How could this group, reminiscent of The Three Stooges, generate millions of dollars in revenue while carrying on like a bunch of frat guys on Spring Break? The good folk who punched a clock and followed the rules while conforming to the corporate way of life will be astonished when they dig into this story. Readers who might question the reality of the events depicted herein will soon realize that nobody could make this up. Like Prohibition, this short-lived golden age of mortgage banking spawned in swindelous style cannot - and will never - happen again.

Churchill: A Life in Cartoons
'A welcome and important addition to this genre--especially given that it contains more than 300 cartoons, most of which have not been utilised in previously published books . . . With great skill Benson has created a highly readable, entertaining, and politically insightful description for each cartoon . . . Buy and read this delightful book.' INTERNATIONAL CHURCHILL SOCIETY________________________________________________ Following an unrivalled political career that spanned a remarkable sixty years and reached both the heights and the depths of political fortune, Sir Winston Churchill undoubtedly became the world's most caricatured politician of all time. From entering Parliament in 1900 through to his retirement in 1964, Winston Churchill in Cartoons will chart Churchill's illustrious and tumultuous political career through the work of leading cartoonists from around the world. Through these cartoons there developed very contrary views of Churchill; the glorious cigar-chomping wartime leader and the flawed politician. In America he was adored by cartoonists, while in Nazi Germany and in the post-war Soviet Union he was, unsurprisingly, painted as a bumbling buffoon. After his passing in 1965, great contemporary cartoonists including Peter Brookes, Steve Bell, Matt and Gerald Scarfe, continued to use him as a benchmark for the world leaders that followed. Featuring the work of the some of the greatest cartoonists of all time and providing a new perspective of an iconic figure, Winston Churchill in Cartoons will include the very best and wittiest portrayals of Churchill the glorious wartime leader, controversial politician, and emblematic British statesman.

Up the Holler
Between the humor and heartache lies the humanity of the characters that are created by Paula Clemons-Combs. She presents readers with fictionalized yet honest accounts of the lives of characters without the stereotypical version of "hillbilly" often given to us through sensationalized clickbait found on social media or television. From the hilarity of two boys holding a funeral for their cat to the utter despair of a woman begging for her grandchild's life, readers will find themselves immersed in the laughter, the prayers, and the sorrows of Appalachia. Paula Clemons-Combs hails from Breathitt County, Kentucky, an area of Appalachia that is often overlooked since the withdrawal of the coal industry. She is a lifelong learner, studying both formally to earn a master's degree in education and informally to become a collector of family genealogy and an avid storyteller. Fork Social Media and the Algorithm it Rode in on (Jailbird Stories)
Stories collected by the author about those who have been banned and restricted from posting on social media, many times over innocent or harmless posts, because computer algorithms don't understand humor, sarcasm or satire. It takes everything literally. Sudi (Rick) Karatas ended up a "Prisoner in the Social Media Site (Starts with an "F") slammer" when he commented "Stick a fork in him he's done" meaning the guy's career was over. Karatas was "charged" with "promoting violence" and he was "locked up" for 30 days in "Jail" unable to post. After a couple more "run ins" this book was born. Thousands of others have also been wrongly accused and punished. Karatas collected stories which include those with the most outlandish and bizarre reasons they were locked up and punished. The funny stories may cause you to bust a gut (not literally, that reference would flag the algorithm). For example, "Bombing the basement for a flea infestation" was considered to be violent by the "Community Standards" bots. But there's a darker side to this phenomenon. Many small and individual owned businesses make their living either directly through or by using social media, it can in fact bring the entire business to a standstill. For example, Kelly O'Brien, a legitimate Dolly Parton tribute act, has had her page shut down several times. There is no way to challenge the bot's random decisions, no humans available, and users are stuck with the decision, despite the real and serious consequences to their livelihoods. As the author explores these stories, he hopes comedy in the face of serious and often detrimental acts by one of America's business giants can make a difference.

Point is: this book has a little something for everyone. Even you, Kristen.

Tough Titties
NATIONAL BESTSELLER From award-winning TV writer Laura Belgray, a hilarious collection of full-body-cringe, watch-through-your-fingers life lessons her own husband calls "loser Sex and the City." What does it take to grow up cool and popular, master adulthood, fast track your success, and always be your best? Laura Belgray wouldn't know. Her wildly relatable coming-of-age stories include hate-following her 6th grade bully on social media decades later; moving home post-college to measure her self-worth in hookups with Upper West Side bartenders; dating a sociopathic man-baby; proving herself in the early '90s at New York's coolest magazine (as the world's worst intern); falling for get-rich-quick schemes on the Internet; and, most of all, saying "tough titties" to the supposed-to's in life: driving a car, being on time, handing in your paperwork, learning to roast a chicken, and having kids. Peppered with cutting insights on our confusing, self-helpy culture that calls hair removal "self care" and tells us to give our 110% but also to give zero f*cks, Tough Titties will leave you feeling better about, well, everything. Let's face it: we're all tired of shame-spiraling after being told what to do when we know we're not going to do any of it. Tough Titties is one big permission slip to be a dork, a sometimes-unspiritual slacker, a late bloomer and, ultimately, 100% yourself. It'll also have you snort-laughing in public and tapping whoever's nearby to say, "Lemme read you one more part!" Which is annoying, but tough titties. "Nobody makes me laugh like Laura Belgray. She's got a one-of-a kind knack for taking the shame out of life's most humiliating moments. Tough Titties is a hilarious, must-read permission slip to be 100% you." --Marie Forleo, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Everything is Figureoutable
Aliens about Humans
Every seasoned alien infiltrator who has ever had to operate undercover as a human will concur: humans are not an easy species to make sense of. Their behaviours and interactions are mostly contradictory. Their codes, traditions, and beliefs are utterly bizarre. Should you, fellow alien, ever have to go undercover as a human, make sure to read this manual first.ALIENS ABOUT HUMANS: The Undercover Alien's Handbook on Successful Infiltration offers an extraterrestrial perspective on human society through a blend of dark comedy and sharp satire. This parody manual for aliens humorously explains in a pseudo-scientific way how humans work and think, and how an undercover alien should navigate all the peculiarities and dysfunctions of humanity to avoid being compromised. By viewing the world through an alien lens, it exposes inconsistencies and flaws in everything from everyday items we take for granted to ethical norms, religion, and societal structures.Born from the popular Twitter account Aliens About Humans (@HumansExplained), known for its blunt and humorous takes, this book develops the ongoing gag about the fictitious alien infiltrator Zorn and introduces new characters in a hilarious side story, enhancing the cultural misunderstandings and satirical commentary its fans adore. If you relish the wit of Douglas Adams's The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and the blunt buffoonery of Diane Morgan's Philomena Cunk, this parody and satire novel is your ticket to a refreshing and brutally disarming view of humanity from an alien viewpoint.

There's an old saying that the difference between a fairy tale and a sea story is that a fairy tale starts off with "Once upon a time" and a sea story starts off with "This is no shit."Here in these pages is a heaping pile of "This is no shit" and it starts with the notion that in the Navy, the cardinal rule is: If you can't pay attention, take notes. When does this rule apply? In the Navy, all the time: when training for war includes playing pinochle, when you're mistaken for an NIS agent, when Robert Mitchum (yes, that Robert Mitchum) stops by your barracks for a beer or two, when advancing in the Navy is one damn thing after another. The fun frolic through the sea stories of a Navy "lifer" (seen partly through the eyes of his Navy brat daughter) includes a series of adventures and misadventures when he commandeers an Army jeep in Vietnam, discovers that some side work in New Jersey was mob-related, and commutes to the ship via helicopter.Hear that? They're piping us aboard. Let's weigh anchor and get the sea stories underway!
