Immersed MBRs
More and more focus is going into establishing more sustainable approaches for wastewater treatment (WWT) in South Africa as well as around the world. Governments are beginning to enforce more economical solutions for WWT, which will have less impact on costs as well as on land area requirements. Effective solid-liquid separation in biological wastewater treatment is an important step in the process as it has a major impact on effluent quality. Traditionally this has been achieved using Secondary settling tanks (SSTs) for liquid/solid separation in combination with a biological reactor (for biological degradation of organic matter). SSTs, however, require a large space, which can become onerous on land requirements. Immersed membrane bioreactors (iMBRs) functions by solid-liquid separation taking place by the passing wastewater through membranes. These membranes are immersed in the aeration zone of the bioreactor. This thus eliminates the requirement of SSTs and are becoming more widely used to treat various types of wastewater due to the decreasing cost of membranes and the resultant reduced plant footprint. This, therefore, makes MBR a more sustainable option. Membrane technology has a high initial capital requirement, although this can be offset against the savings resulting from the omission of SSTs and a decrease in land area requirement. The British colonial authorities labeled them "the disturbances of the southern provinces," marking the onset of agitation for statehood in South Sudan. These disturbances escalated into a full-scale civil war in Bahr el Ghazal, Equatoria, and Upper Nile Provinces, leading Khartoum to dub them "the problem of southern Sudan." The SPLM/A, refusing to accept this characterization, termed it "a general problem of the Sudan only peculiarized in Southern Sudan." On July 9, 2011, Southern Sudan became the Republic of South Sudan.The Problems of South Sudan' signify the compounding effects of centuries-old poverty, ignorance, superstition, and cultural backwardness, obstructing the populace's perception of reality. These issues manifest in various forms: ethnic nationalism, power and resource rivalries, civil war, ethnic military factions, weakening state structures, societal inequality, governmental corruption, ongoing transitions from war to peace, and natural and man made disasters such as floods, famine, and pandemics like Covid-19. The IGAD power-sharing formula has failed to address these issues. Independence arrived prematurely, before South Sudanese patriotism could override ethnic chauvinism and parochialism.

Despite the importance of cocoyam, little research attention has been given to it especially at post-harvest, thus considered neglected and underutilized. It provides food and is an income-generating crop for about 200 million people in the tropics. In Cameroon, it is the third most cultivated food after cassava and plantain thus, the importance of cocoyam to regional food security cannot be overstated. In this book, the researcher first of all identifies the different storage methods that traders store their cocoyam, then isolates the fungal pathogens responsible for cocoyam rot at farm gate and then identifies the fungal pathogens that infest the cocoyam after subjecting them to various storage methods. Community management of pirarucu Arapaima spp. in the Mamirau獺 RDS
The pirarucu is considered the largest freshwater scaled fish in the world, measuring approximately 3 meters in total length and weighing over 200 kg. Due to over-exploitation, its fishing in the state of Amazonas is officially prohibited by IBAMA throughout the year, with the exception of cultivation or management areas, as has been the case in the Mamirau獺 Sustainable Development Reserve since 1999. Considering its relevance, this work aims to carry out an economic, social and environmental analysis of the community management of pirarucu (Arapaima spp.) in the Jarau獺 Sector - RDS Mamirau獺, between 1999 and 2015.
