General Theory of Light Propagation and Imaging Through the Atmosphere
This 2nd edition lays out an updated version of the general theory of light propagation and imaging through Earth's turbulent atmosphere initially developed in the late '70s and '80s, with additional applications in the areas of laser communications and high-energy laser beam propagation. New material includes a chapter providing a comprehensive mathematical tool set for precisely characterizing image formation with the anticipated Extremely Large Telescopes (ELTS), enabling a staggering range of star image shapes and sizes; existing chapters rewritten or modified so as to supplement the mathematics with clearer physical insight through written and graphical means; a history of the development of present-day understanding of light propagation and imaging through the atmosphere as represented by the general theory described. Beginning with the rudimentary, geometrical-optics based understanding of a century ago, it describes advances made in the 1960s, including the developmentof the 'Kolmogorov theory, ' the deficiencies of which undermined its credibility, but not before it had done enormous damage, such as construction of a generation of underperforming 'light bucket' telescopes. The general theory requires no a priori turbulence assumptions. Instead, it provides means for calculating the turbulence properties directly from readily-measurable properties of star images.
Relativistic Dynamics of a Charged Sphere
"This is a remarkable book. [...] A fresh and novel approach to old problems and to their solution." -Fritz Rohrlich, Emeritus Professor of Physics, Syracuse University This reexamination of the classical model of the electron, introduced by H. A. Lorentz more than 100 years ago, serves as both a review of the subject and as a context for presenting new material. The new material includes the determination and elimination of the noncausal behavior in the original equation of motion, and the derivation of the binding forces and total stress-momentum-energy tensor for a charged insulator moving with arbitrary velocity. The final equations of motion are given in a number of different formats to allow them to be readily used by physicists, engineers, and mathematicians.
A Modern Introduction to Classical Electrodynamics
A Modern Introduction to Classical Electrodynamics is suitable for undergraduate students with some background knowledge of the subject and for graduate students, while more advanced topics make it a useful resource for PhD students and researchers. The book places much emphasis on the formal structure of the theory; beginning with Maxwell's equations in the vacuum, it emphasises the central role of gauge invariance and Special Relativity. After introductory chapters which include rederivations of elementary results of electrostatics and magnetostatics, and the multipole expansion, Special Relativity is introduced, and most of the subsequent derivations are performed using covariant formalism and gauge potentials, allowing for greater conceptual and technical clarity compared to more traditional treatments. The second part of the book covers electrodynamics in material media. This includes Maxwell's equations in material media, frequency dependent response of materials and Kramers-Kronig relations, electromagnetic waves in materials, and scattering of electromagnetic radiation. Finally, the text also includes advanced topics, such as the field-theoretical treatment of classical electrodynamics as a modern treatment of radiation reaction. These parts are meant for the advanced reader and are clearly marked, and can be skipped without loss of continuity.

A Baby Sister for Frances
This is an introduction to the quantum theory of light and its broad implications and applications. A significant part of the book covers material with direct relevance to current basic and applied research, such as quantum fluctuations and their role in laser physics and the theory of forces between macroscopic bodies (Casimir effects). The book includes numerous historical sidelights throughout, and approximately seventy exercises. The book provides detailed expositions of the theory with emphasis on general physical principles. Foundational topics in classical and quantum electrodynamics are addressed in the first half of the book, including the semiclassical theory of atom-field interactions, the quantization of the electromagnetic field in dispersive and dissipative media, uncertainty relations, and spontaneous emission. The second half begins with a chapter on the Jaynes-Cummings model, dressed states, and some distinctly quantum-mechanical features of atom-field interactions, and includes discussion of entanglement, the no-cloning theorem, von Neumann's proof concerning hidden variable theories, Bell's theorem, and tests of Bell inequalities. The last two chapters focus on quantum fluctuations and fluctuation-dissipation relations, beginning with Brownian motion, the Fokker-Planck equation, and classical and quantum Langevin equations. Detailed calculations are presented for the laser linewidth, spontaneous emission noise, photon statistics of linear amplifiers and attenuators, and other phenomena. Van der Waals interactions, Casimir forces, the Lifshitz theory of molecular forces between macroscopic media, and the many-body theory of such forces based on dyadic Green functions are analyzed from the perspective of Langevin noise, vacuum field fluctuations, and zero-point energy.

Microgrid Design for Ev Fast Charging Station
The utilization of range of electric vehicles is increases rapidly and still in some areas it is limited due to more charging times. This can be improved by providing fast charging conditions that enable to charge a vehicle in less time. To maintain this fast charging conditions an efficient, compact size dc-dc converter with high power output is required. This paper proposes an interleaved dc-dc power converter to meet the above requirements. The proposed interleaved multi-phase converter, which is part of fast charging stations, has capable to charge the electric vehicle in less than 3hours time. To achieve high power density, ripple reduction on the output current and to improve the efficiency of converter a space vector modulation technique is applied. The operation of interleaved converter is analyzed in theoretically. Simulation analysis of proposed interleaved power converter shows the good behavior of converter, and charging conditions of various electric vehicle systems.
The Sentient Cell
All species, extant and extinct, from the simplest unicellular prokaryotes to humans, have an existential consciousness. Without sentience, the first cells that emerged some 4 billion years ago would have been evolutionary dead-ends, unable to survive in the chaotic, dangerous environment in which life first appeared and evolved. In this book, Arthur Reber's theory, the Cellular Basis of Consciousness (CBC), is outlined and distinguished from those models that argue that minds could be instantiated on artificial entities and those that maintain consciousness requires a nervous system. The CBC framework takes a novel approach to classic topics such as the origin-of-life, philosophy of mind, the role of genes, the impact of cognition, and how biological information is processed by all species. It also calls for a rethinking of a variety of issues including the moral implications of the sentient capacities of all species, how welfare concerns need to be expanded beyond where they currently are, and critically, how all life is intertwined in a coordinated cognitive ecology. The Sentient Cell explores this revolutionary model, which updates the standard neo-Darwinian framework within which current approaches operate and examines the underlying biomolecular features that are the likely candidates for the "invention" of consciousness and outline their role in cellular life.
Classical and Quantum Parametric Phenomena
Classical and Quantum Parametric Phenomena provides an overview of the phenomena arising when parametric pumping is applied to oscillators. These phenomena include parametric amplification, noise squeezing, spontaneous symmetry breaking, activated switching, cat states, and synthetic Ising spin lattices. To understand these effects, topics such as nonlinear and stochastic dynamics, coupled systems, and quantum mechanics are introduced. Throughout the book, introductions are kept as succinct as possible and attention is focused on understanding parametric oscillators. As a result, the text helps readers to familiarize themselves with many aspects of parametric systems and understand the common theoretical origin of nanomechanical sensors, optical amplifiers, and superconducting qubits. Parametric phenomena have enabled important scientific breakthroughs over the last decades and are still at the focus of intense research efforts. This book provides a resource for experimental and theoretical physicists entering the field or wishing to gain a deeper understanding of the underlying connections. This includes combining formal and intuitive explanations, accompanied by exercises based on numerical Python codes. This combination allows readers to experience parametric phenomena from various directions and apply their understanding directly to their own projects.

Energy Diagnosis
Electricity is one of the most widely used energy sources in Mexican households. It is mainly used for air conditioning, refrigeration, lighting and various household appliances. Every two months, the electricity bill has a strong impact on our pocket. As it is intended to obtain the reduction of consumption, through the measurement of energy of the equipment installed in the study area, the indexes that allow to make an energy diagnosis and based on this determine both the current state of consumption with respect to the nominal load, as well as to determine possible sources of energy savings, determining the anomalies presented by the system, to formulate measures in the short, medium and long term.In general terms, the efficient use of electrical energy means obtaining better production results with fewer resources, which will translate into lower manufacturing costs, more products with less waste and lower energy consumption.
