Gas Sensors for Monitoring Environmental Changes
Global warming and climate change have become serious environmental threats in the last decade. Air pollution due to the rapid development of modernization and urbanization is a major cause of environmental deterioration. The emission of sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx), for instance, can be directly linked to the evolution of acid rain. Greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and NOx, are the main drivers of global warming. Thus, the continuous monitoring and control of such pollutants are imperative to prevent environmental disasters. This fact has prompted efforts to find new and user-friendly techniques for the detection of gases hazardous to the environment and human health, which has led to the development of key technologies for the rapid, selective, sensitive, and efficient detection of gases, chemical vapors, and explosives. Given the boom of the Internet of Things (IoT), the next generation of gas sensors is expected to be massively deployed in dense network systems with low costs, low power consumption, and long-term stability. In addition, to achieve continuous monitoring, gas sensors may also need to demonstrate a high tolerance to environmental variables such as temperature, humidity, and pressure. This Special Issue provides a collection of papers (both reviews and articles) revealing the current state of the research on gas sensors based on various materials and outlook for the gas sensors in environmental monitoring.
Sensors and Fault Diagnostics in Power System
The assessment of key apparatuses' adequate technical conditions is crucial in the delivery of reliable and continuous electric power to customers. To meet this requirement, any fault in the power system must be detected and diagnosed as early as possible, with particular emphasis on the precision of the diagnostic process. Various online and offline diagnostic methods are widely applied for the early detection of system malfunctions, alongside a number of different sensors, which may be used to capture selected physical quantities indicating the type of potential faults. A specific fault diagnostic process is typically carried out by experts in the field; however, artificial intelligence (AI)-based systems are increasingly being proposed to support decision making related to this task. An essential step in fault diagnostic processes is signal analysis, and this is supported by features including (but not limited to) signal processing, feature extraction, modeling, and prediction methods. In this context, this Special Issue includes ten high-quality papers dealing with the main problems currently related to sensors and fault diagnostics in power system engineering.

In 1636 the poet and traveller John Taylor wrote, 'Hertfordshire is a County that surpasseth all other Countries and Counties for making the best malt.' Much of that malt went by cart or barge to London, but Hertfordshire also has a long tradition of brewing, as well as malting, and the county eventually developed several substantial breweries. These included Benskin's of Watford, which at one point owned some 640 pubs from Brighton to Cambridge, and even supplied the House of Commons. Today Hertfordshire still has some twenty breweries, including one, McMullen's of Hertford, which will soon celebrate its 200th anniversary. User experience and player experience are two concepts that have similarities. Both involve the interaction of a user with a product, with overlapping methods and areas of knowledge that allow experience to be verified. However, there are differences in the focus given to the experience resulting from the interaction. This paper presents the concepts of user experience, usability, player experience and gameplay presented in the literature. It then discusses the relationship between these definitions, identifying the elements that separate them and presenting a possible division between the concepts of user experience and player experience and their tools. Finally, this paper presents two experiments, in two different games, which show a way of verifying player experience, seeking to include these methods within the game development cycle. This work also presents an understanding of player experience in interaction with games and the inclusion of its evaluation within the development cycle, using user testing.
