A Brief History of a Perfect Future
What if, instead of trying to predict the future, we could just pick the one we want - and then invent it? Well, we can. This book describes seven stunning technological advances that will occur by 2050 and shows how to combine them, starting now, to build a future that will let billions thrive. This book provides an optimistic vision of the future, very much grounded in facts and the lessons of history, while showing how individuals, companies, and governments can make this vision a reality. The authors aren't claiming they can predict the future. They very much abide by the oft-used line that "it is difficult to make predictions, especially about the future." No, rather than predict the future, they want to draw on a lesson they learned from personal computing pioneer Alan Kay: "The best way to predict the future is to invent it." The authors want to invent a perfect future. More precisely, they want to help you invent it.

Over the years, SIMS instrumentation has dramatically changed since the earliest secondary ion mass spectrometers were first developed. Instruments were once dedicated to either the depth profiling of materials using high-ion-beam currents to analyse near surface to bulk regions of materials (dynamic SIMS), or time-of-flight instruments that produced complex mass spectra of the very outer-most surface of samples, using very low-beam currents (static SIMS). Now, with the development of dual-beam instruments these two very distinct fields now overlap.

Power Electronics Applications in Renewable Energy Systems

Innovative Preservation Technology for the Fresh Fruit and Vegetables
The preservation of freshness of fruits and vegetables until their consumption is the aim of many research activities. The quality losses of fresh fruit and vegetables during cold chain are frequently attributable to an inappropriate use of postharvest technologies. Moreover, especially when fresh produce is transported to distant markets, it is necessary to adopt proper storage solutions in order to preserve the initial quality. Nowadays, for each step of the supply chain (packing house, cold storage rooms, precooling center, refrigerate transport, and distribution), innovative preservation technologies are available that, alone or in combination, could preserve the fresh products in order to maintain the principal quality and nutritional characteristics. In this Special Issue, these preservation technologies will be described, highlighting their effect on quality maintenance.
Nanoscale Thermodynamics
This Special Issue concerns the development of a theory for energy conversion on the nanoscale, namely, nanothermodynamics. The theory has been applied to porous media, small surfaces, clusters or fluids under confinement. The number of unsolved issues in these contexts is numerous and the present efforts are only painting part of the broader picture. We attempt to answer the following: How far down in scale does the Gibbs equation apply? Which theory can replace it beyond the thermodynamic limit? It is well known that confinement changes the equation of state of a fluid, but how does confinement change the equilibrium conditions themselves? This Special Issue explores some of the roads that were opened up for us by Hill with the idea of nanothermodynamics. The experimental progress in nanotechnology is advancing rapidly. It is our ambition with this book to inspire an increased effort in the development of suitable theoretical tools and methods to help further progress in nanoscience. All ten contributions to this Special Issue can be seen as efforts to support, enhance and validate the theoretical foundation of Hill.
New Trends on the Combustion Processes in Spark Ignition Engines
This Special Issue on "New Trends on the Combustion Processes in Spark Ignition Engines" contains nine papers on new developments on Internal Combustion (IC) engines aiming to enhance their efficiency, leading to the reduction of fossil CO2 and other gaseous pollutants. It is divided into two parts. In the initial part, the focus in on fuels, with four papers discussing the use of biofuels and other alternative fuels that can be used in different types of IC Engines. Additionally, conventional fuels are tested in order to evaluate their optimal use in new downsizing high-boost engines. A revision paper on alternative fuels is also included. The second part involves the study and improvement of engine combustion diagnostics as well as the presentation of an alternative type of propulsion system.
Advanced Composites
Engineering practice has revealed that innovative technologies' structural applications require new design concepts related to developing materials with mechanical properties tailored for construction purposes. This would allow the efficient use of engineering materials. The efficiency can be understood in a simplified and heuristic manner as the optimization of performance and the proper combination of structural components, leading to the consumption of the least amount of natural resources. The solution to the eco-optimization problem, based on the adequate characterization of the materials, will enable implementing environmentally friendly engineering principles when the efficient use of advanced materials guarantees the required structural safety. Identifying fundamental relationships between the structure of advanced composites and their physical properties is the focus of this book. The collected articles explore the development of sustainable composites with valorized manufacturability corresponding to Industrial Revolution 4.0 ideology. The publications, amongst others, reveal that the application of nano-particles improves the mechanical performance of composite materials; heat-resistant aluminium composites ensure the safety of overhead power transmission lines; chemical additives can detect the impact of temperature on concrete structures. This book demonstrates that construction materials' choice has considerable room for improvement from a scientific viewpoint, following heuristic approaches.
Impact Welding of Materials
Recent industrial criteria increasingly require the production of multi-material components. However, the manufacturing requirements of these components are not met by conventional welding techniques. Alternative solid-state technologies, such as impact-based processes, must be considered. The impact welding family is composed of several processes, such as explosion welding, magnetic pulse welding, vaporizing foil actuator welding, and laser impact welding. These processes present very different length scales, providing the impact welding family with a broad applicability range. A sample of the cutting-edge research that is being conducted on the multidisciplinary field of impact welding is presented in this book.

Doch was nehmen die H繹rer/innen eigentlich als typisch f羹r den Moderationsstil eines Senders wahr, sodass sie ihn von anderen Programmen unterscheiden k繹nnen? Stilistisches Wissen ist in Sprachgemeinschaften oft ungleich verteilt. Derselbe Sprechstil kann von verschiedenen Individuen unterschiedlich interpretiert und bewertet werden. Angelehnt an die Repertory-Grid-Methode entwickelt diese Studie einen Ansatz, um sich jenem Wissen zielgruppenspezifisch zu n瓣hern. The increase in demand of a diet rich in animal protein is the product of an increasing standard of living resulting from long-term rapid economic development. Whether used as direct feed for livestock, poultry, and fish or for direct human consumption, there has been a corresponding increase in the demand of soybean. In short, the production and consumption sides of value chains have necessitated the demand for more soybeans.

Does the Military-Industrial Complex as we understand it still exist? If so, how has it changed since the end of the Cold War? First named by President Dwight D. Smart Urban Water Networks
This book presents the paper form of the Special Issue (SI) on Smart Urban Water Networks. The number and topics of the papers in the SI confirm the growing interest of operators and researchers for the new paradigm of smart networks, as part of the more general smart city. The SI showed that digital information and communication technology (ICT), with the implementation of smart meters and other digital devices, can significantly improve the modelling and the management of urban water networks, contributing to a radical transformation of the traditional paradigm of water utilities. The paper collection in this SI includes different crucial topics such as the reliability, resilience, and performance of water networks, innovative demand management, and the novel challenge of real-time control and operation, along with their implications for cyber-security. Segmentation Methods Based On Logistic Type Mixture Model
This Book contributes analysis and development of image segmentation algorithms based on finite logistic type mixture models. These techniques are much useful in a variety of applications such as medical images, filming, and video, security surveillance, face recognition, gesture analysis. Image segmentation is a prerequisite for computer vision and human-computer interactions. Image segmentation is an important domain of research in computer science and allied areas due to its ready applicability in designing and developing several systems. The image segmentation is a process in which the pixels in the image are grouped such that they form a number of meaningful regions that are homogeneous within the regions, heterogeneous between the regions. Several image segmentation techniques have been developed with various considerations. A comparative study is carried with developed algorithms and with earlier existing models based on image segmentation algorithm with Gaussian mixture model. It is observed that the three-parameter logistic type mixture model with hierarchical clustering algorithm better than that of a Gaussian mixture model with K-means and two-parameter logistic type.
Energy Efficient Design Of RAM And It’s Implementation on FPGA
There are many systems which uses RAM as it's primary memory for example spacecraft, our home computer etc. Energy efficient RAM is even more important in outer space exploration as the power source is very limited and the environmental condition is very extreme. Energy efficiency is not only based on the architecture of the system but also on the environmental condition. Therefore energy efficient RAM will increase the performance of the system even in the extreme condition. In this work, we are going to design a RAM that will energy efficient even in extreme condition. Four different FPGA are taken under consideration and our RAM design is implemented on these four ICs and we find the most energy efficient architecture among these four architectures taken into consideration. There is reduction in power consumption when we migrate our RAM design from Kintex-7 architecture to Artix-7 Architecture.The result are obtained by using Xillinx Vivado 19.1 simulator with verilog hardware description language.
