Effectiveness of Local Adaptation Plan of Action in Reducing Vulnerability and Enhancing R

Master's Thesis from the year 2018 in the subject Forestry / Forestry Economics, grade: A, Tribhuvan University (Institute of Forestry, Pokhara Campus, Pokhara-15, Nepal), language: English, abstract: Local Adaptation Plans of Action (LAPA) is community-based adaptation plan that take a 'vulnerability first' approaches to climate change. It was initiated more than half decade ago in Nepal and have crossed its planning and early implementation phase and it urges to study how it is progressing. For this purpose, Mauja village of Kaski District and Ghermu village of Lamjung were selected to assess the level of participation of poor and vulnerable (P&V) households (HHs), compare the contribution of P&V households; and examine the effectiveness of implemented plan to reduce the vulnerability and enhance their resilience. For the collection of required information, Household questionnaire survey, FGD, KII and direct field observations were implied for the primary data collection while the intensive literature review was done to collect secondary data. Similarly, Wilcoxon test was applied to check the effectiveness of LAPA implementation at 5% of significance level. The study reveals that, the participation of P&V HHs in LAPA formulation process was found to be quite appreciative. Specifically, respondents of Ghermu were found be more consultative and action and interaction oriented then the respondents of Mauja. However, the respondents of Mauja dominated Ghermu in activeness and involvement in specific activity. Similarly, for the LAPA implementation process, contribution of government agency (35%) is maximum in Mauja and contribution of donor agency(37%) maximum in Ghermu while comparing to contribution of CFUGs, partner NGOs and P&V HHs. In this regard, the contribution of P&V HHs was done in terms of physical contribution in both the villages. Global concern about climate change caused by the exploitation of fossil fuels is encouraging the use of renewable energies. For instance, the European Union aims to be climate neutral by 2050. There is growing interest in the use of physical plasmas (ionized gases) for biomedical applications, especially in the framework of so-called "plasma medicine", which exploits the action of low-power, atmospheric pressure plasmas for therapeutic purposes. The understanding of the mechanisms of plasma action on living matter requires a strongly interdisciplinary approach, with competencies ranging from plasma physics and technology to chemistry, to biology and finally to medicine. Es wird in einer kurzen Charakterisierung auf die wirtschaftlich bedeutendsten Erbfehler beim Schwein eingegangen, um im Literaturteil das Erbfehlermonitoring der verschiedenen Schweinezuchtorganisationen charakterisieren zu k繹nnen. Im Anschluss an die Diskussion soll auf die Verantwortung von Z羹chter, Landwirt und Verband hingewiesen werden. Thermochemical Heat Storage Materials and their Solar Space Heating ApplicationThermochemi

Academic Paper from the year 2020 in the subject Engineering - Chemical Engineering, grade: 1, Northwest University (Department of Chemical Engineering), course: Energy storage, language: English, abstract: Thermochemical heat storage materials offer high-energy storage densities and clean means of long-term solar energy storage. The aim of the study is to assess the potential heat storage efficiency of salt hydrates, based on sufficient hydration/dehydration performance, water sorption and cyclicability. MgSO4-7H2O, ZnSO4-7H2O and FeSO4-7H2O were evaluate based on preselected criteria. The main highlights of the dehydration result show that higher enthalpy was obtained for MgSO4 and ZnSO4, shows 2256 J g-1 and 1731 J g-1 enthalpy, respectively. During hydration process, six water molecules were absorbing by MgSO4 and ZnSO4 after pre-dehydrated temperature 150 簞C and 120 簞C, respectively. The cycle stability of MgSO4 and ZnSO4 showed better performance which give rise 1210 g-1 and 1155 J g-1 enthalpy, respectively. It was expected that FeSO4 would show higher cyclicability due to their higher enthalpy (1400 J g-1) in the first round; however, overhydration does not permit it to released larger energy. The impact of relative humidity on water sorption performance and rate of hydration were reported which showed that MgSO4 and ZnSO4 can uptake maximum water under 85 and 75 % relative humidity. Ongoing studies and the booming progress of ZnSO4-7H2O illustrate that likewise MgSO4-7H2O, it is also the potential candidate and can be use in thermochemical heat storage devices. To bring zinc sulfate heptahydrate into market, more detail studies in fields of evaluation of advanced materials and development of efficient and compact prototypes are still required. ZnSO4-7H2O is modified by impregnation method with zeolite matrices (13X-zeolite and LTA-zeolite) to improve its hydration performance. Predictive Control Algorithms in Human Balancing

The understanding of the balancing process is very important, especially from the point of view of elderly people. However, there are a lot of open questions about the working principle of the neural system. We focus on the mathematical modelling of the neural process, which flows in the human neurotic system during standing still. There are several approaches in the literature. One approach is to apply a linear compensator (such as PD, PID, PIDA) in the model. Besides, model based predictive controllers are also feasible, when the human acts using a pre-learned control input pattern in the certain situations. In our study, we compare the operation of the two control approaches, by comparing stabilometry measures, such as typical vibration frequencies, average velocity of the center of mass of the body and maximum/average tilt angle.

The most important environmental challenge today's society is facing is to reduce the effects of CO2 emissions and global warming. Such an ambitious challenge can only be achieved through a holistic approach, capable of tackling the problem from a multidisciplinary point of view. Recent developments in storage device technologies, interface systems, control and monitoring techniques, or visualization and information technologies have driven the implementation of HESS in many industrial, commercial and domestic applications. Coatings to Improve Optoelectronic Devices

This selection is focused on coatings and films with applications in optoelectronics, such as photovoltaics, photocatalysis, and light-based sensors and phenomena. The studies investigate the optimal composition, crystalline structure, and morphology to deliver the different functionalities sought. Obtaining transparent p-type electrodes is challenging but extremely relevant in optoelectronics. Electric conduction mechanisms and the correlations with structure and doping are discussed. The important issue of the degradation pathways in perovskite-based solar cells and the possibilities offered by different types of coatings to encapsulate the devices as well as the beneficial effect of silica coating as an antireflection and antisoiling layer on well-established solar cells are discussed. New designs of nanoplasmonic films for chemical and biological molecule sensing are reviewed, such as the combination of metallic nanoparticles and nanostructured semiconductors and dispersing metallic or bi-metallic nanoparticles in CuO films. The impacts of structure, defects, and morphology on the photoactivated properties of WO3 films and on the shape memory behavior in Cu-Al-Ni thin films are discussed. Aggregated TiO2 nanoparticles on TiO2 layers are shown to enhance optical transmittance and confer a superhydrophilic characteristic. Finally, aspects of the fundamental characterization of thin films, Drude damping in thin films, and laser-induced deflection technique are discussed.

Advances in Digital Image Correlation (DIC)

Digital image correlation (DIC) has become the most popular full field measurement technique in experimental mechanics. It is a versatile and inexpensive measurement method that provides a large amount of experimental data. Because DIC takes advantage of a huge variety of image modalities, the technique allows covering a wide range of space and time scales. Stereo extends the scope of DIC to non-planar cases, which are more representative of industrial use cases. With the development of tomography, digital volume correlation now provides access to volumetric data, enabling the study of the inner behavior of materials and structures.However, the use of DIC data to quantitatively validate models or accurately identify a set of constitutive parameters remains challenging. One of the reasons lies in the compromises between measurement resolution and spatial resolution. Second, the question of the boundary conditions is still open. Another reason is that the measured displacements are not directly comparable with usual simulations. Finally, the use of full field data leads to new computational challenges.

Utilization of Solar Energy in Absorption Refrigeration

Utilization of solar energy by thermal conversion method, is of low cost, but it requires high density of solar radiation. Electrical conversion method, on the other hand, is expensive, but it does not need high density of solar radiation. One of the most important applications of thermal conversion of solar energy, is absorption refrigeration. As there are many factors affecting the process of solar refrigeration, a lot of research work must be carried out, before deciding an optimum design of solar refrigeration systems, which utilize solar energy at a low cost. The main objective of this research article is to design and construct an apparatus which can be used, as a test rig, by research students, to carry out experiments, regarding the performance of solar absorption refrigeration systems. The apparatus has been designed and constructed so as to be used indoors. One of the many different factors which affect the performance of solar absorption refrigeration systems, has been chosen, to test the apparatus, for functioning. This is the effect of condenser temperature, on the performance of solar absorption refrigeration systems. The apparatus has been tested for three different values of condenser temperature, and yielded very good results. The experimental work proves that, the coefficient of performance of a solar absorption refrigeration system, is high, at a low condenser temperature. At a condenser temperature of about 25簞C, the actual coefficient of performance, obtained is 0.019, compared with a theoretical value of 0.062. And at a condenser temperature of about 15簞C, the actual coefficient of performance is 0.026, compared with a theoretical

Seit einigen Jahren kommt die Segmentbauweise f羹r die Errichtung von Windenergieanlagen (WEA) zum Einsatz. Die entstehenden Fugen werden je nach Lage und Beanspruchung unterschiedlich ausgebildet. In der Arbeit werden die horizontalen Fugen von WEA aus Kreisringsegmenten behandelt. Diese Fugen werden seit einiger Zeit als Trockenfugen ausgef羹hrt. Die Fugen werden durch eine CNC-Schleifmaschine plan geschliffen und nach dem Errichten extern vorgespannt. Lediglich der Traganteil der Reibkr瓣fte 羹bertr瓣gt in den Fugen entstehende Schubspannungen. Die Arbeit konzentriert sich auf die ?bertragung der Schubspannungen aus Torsion. Die derzeitigen Tragf瓣higkeitsmodelle werden in der Arbeit widerlegt und ein neues Modell konnte entwickelt werden. Numerische Berechnungen sowie versuchstechnisch ermittelte Tragf瓣higkeiten eines Kleinversuches aus Aluminium konnten das Modell best瓣tigen. Bei der Verwendung des Materials Stahlbeton in Gro?versuchen konnten die im Modell ermittelten Tragf瓣higkeiten nur in Teilen erreicht werden. Zum Ende der Arbeit wurde eine vereinfachte Torsionstragf瓣higkeitskurve f羹r extern vorgespannte Kreisringquerschnitte mit trockenen Fugen herausgearbeitet.

At the end of the study, policy recommendations for the respective agencies and agents on how to increase the willingness of young people to venture in to the aforementioned field are given.
