Ziel der Arbeit ist es, zu hinterfragen, ob das Sounddesign die beiden Lebenswelten in der Dokumentation "Middle of the Moment" miteinander verkn羹pfen kann. Die Rolle von Dynamik und Frequenz innerhalb des Verbindungsprozesses soll anhand einer Datenerhebung untersucht werden. Hauptziel der Forschung ist es, mehr Wissen 羹ber die Rolle von Dynamik und Frequenz im Sounddesign zu generieren.

Fracture, Fatigue and Structural Integrity of Metallic Materials
Fracture, fatigue, and other subcritical processes, such as creep crack growth or stress corrosion cracking, present numerous open issues from both scientific and industrial points of view. These phenomena are of special interest in industrial and civil metallic structures, such as pipes, vessels, machinery, aircrafts, ship hulls, and bridges, given that their failure may imply catastrophic consequences for human life, the natural environment, and/or the economy. Moreover, an adequate management of their operational life, defining suitable inspection periods, repairs, or replacements, requires their safety or unsafety conditions to be defined. The analysis of these technological challenges requires accurate comprehensive assessment tools based on solid theoretical foundations as well as structural integrity assessment standards or procedures incorporating such tools into industrial practice. This volume is focused on new advances in fracture, fatigue, and structural integrity of metallic structural components containing defects (e.g., cracks, notches, metal loss, etc.), and also on those developments that are being or could be incorporated into structural integrity assessment procedures, such as BS7910, R6, or API 579-1/ASME FFS-1.
Effectiveness of Local Adaptation Plan of Action in Reducing Vulnerability and Enhancing R
Master's Thesis from the year 2018 in the subject Forestry / Forestry Economics, grade: A, Tribhuvan University (Institute of Forestry, Pokhara Campus, Pokhara-15, Nepal), language: English, abstract: Local Adaptation Plans of Action (LAPA) is community-based adaptation plan that take a 'vulnerability first' approaches to climate change. It was initiated more than half decade ago in Nepal and have crossed its planning and early implementation phase and it urges to study how it is progressing. For this purpose, Mauja village of Kaski District and Ghermu village of Lamjung were selected to assess the level of participation of poor and vulnerable (P&V) households (HHs), compare the contribution of P&V households; and examine the effectiveness of implemented plan to reduce the vulnerability and enhance their resilience. For the collection of required information, Household questionnaire survey, FGD, KII and direct field observations were implied for the primary data collection while the intensive literature review was done to collect secondary data. Similarly, Wilcoxon test was applied to check the effectiveness of LAPA implementation at 5% of significance level. The study reveals that, the participation of P&V HHs in LAPA formulation process was found to be quite appreciative. Specifically, respondents of Ghermu were found be more consultative and action and interaction oriented then the respondents of Mauja. However, the respondents of Mauja dominated Ghermu in activeness and involvement in specific activity. Similarly, for the LAPA implementation process, contribution of government agency (35%) is maximum in Mauja and contribution of donor agency(37%) maximum in Ghermu while comparing to contribution of CFUGs, partner NGOs and P&V HHs. Advances in Hydrometallurgy
The development of new technologies and the increasing demand for mineral resources from emerging countries are responsible for significant tensions in the pricing of non-ferrous metals. Some metals have become strategic and critical because they are used in many technological applications such as flat panel TVs (indium), solar panel cells (indium), lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles (lithium, cobalt), magnets (rare earth elements, such as neodymium and dysprosium), scintillators (rare earths), and aviation and medical applications (titanium); their availabilities remain limited. The secured supply of these metals is crucial to continue producing and exporting these technologies, and because the specific properties of these metals make them essential and difficult to substitute for a given industrial application. Hydrometallurgy have the advantages of being able to process low-grade ores, to allow better control of co-products, and have a lower environmental impact providing that the hydrometallurgical route is optimized and cheap. The need to develop sustainable, efficient, and cheap processes to extract metals from complex and poor polymetallic matrices is real. The aim of this book was to highlight recent advances related to hydrometallurgy to face new challenges in metal production.
Advances in Biogas Desulfurization
Global concern about climate change caused by the exploitation of fossil fuels is encouraging the use of renewable energies. For instance, the European Union aims to be climate neutral by 2050. Biogas is an interesting renewable energy source due to its high calorific value. Today, biogas is mainly used for the production of electricity and heat by a combined heat and power engine. However, before its valorization, biogas needs to be desulfurized (H2S removal) to avoid corrosion and sulfur oxides emissions during its combustion. Biogas can be upgraded (CO2 removal) and used as vehicle fuel or injected into the natural gas grid. In the last 15 years, significant advances have occurred in the development of biological desulfurization processes. In this book with five chapters, the reader can find some of the latest advances in the biogas desulfurization and an overview of the state-of-the-art research. Three of them are research studies and two are reviews concerning the current state of biogas desulfurization technologies, economic analysis of alternatives, and the microbial ecology in biofiltration units. Microwave imaging techniques allow for the development of systems that are able to inspect, identify, and characterize in a noninvasive fashion under different scenarios, ranging from biomedical to subsurface diagnostics as well as from surveillance and security applications to nondestructive evaluation. Such great opportunities, though, are actually severely limited by difficulties arising from the solution of the underlying inverse scattering problem. As a result, ongoing research efforts in this area are devoted to developing inversion strategies and experimental apparatus so that they are as reliable and accurate as possible with respect to reconstruction capabilities and resolution performance, respectively. Metal Plasticity and Fatigue at High Temperature
In several industrial fields (such as automotive, steelmaking, aerospace, and fire protection systems) metals need to withstand a combination of cyclic loadings and high temperatures. In this condition, they usually exhibit an amount-more or less pronounced-of plastic deformation, often accompanied by creep or stress-relaxation phenomena. Plastic deformation under the action of cyclic loadings may cause fatigue cracks to appear, eventually leading to failures after a few cycles. In estimating the material strength under such loading conditions, the high-temperature material behavior needs to be considered against cyclic loading and creep, the experimental strength to isothermal/non-isothermal cyclic loadings and, not least of all, the choice and experimental calibration of numerical material models and the selection of the most comprehensive design approach. This book is a series of recent scientific contributions addressing several topics in the field of experimental characterization and physical-based modeling of material behavior and design methods against high-temperature loadings, with emphasis on the correlation between microstructure and strength. Plasma Technology for Biomedical Applications
There is growing interest in the use of physical plasmas (ionized gases) for biomedical applications, especially in the framework of so-called "plasma medicine", which exploits the action of low-power, atmospheric pressure plasmas for therapeutic purposes. Such plasmas are "cold plasmas", in the sense that only electrons have a high temperature, whereas ions and the neutral gas particles are at or near room temperature. As a consequence, the "plasma flame" can be directly applied to living matter without appreciable thermal load. Reactive chemical species, charged particles, visible and UV radiation, and electric fields are interaction channels of the plasma with pathogens, cells, and tissues, which can trigger a variety of different responses. Possible applications include disinfection, wound healing, cancer treatment, non-thermal blood coagulation, just to mention some. The understanding of the mechanisms of plasma action on living matter requires a strongly interdisciplinary approach, with competencies ranging from plasma physics and technology to chemistry, to biology and finally to medicine. This book is a collection of work that explores recent advances in this field.

In Kooperation mit der Genossenschaft zur F繹rderung der Schweinehaltung e.G. (GFS) soll auf das Erbfehlermonitoring verschiedener Schweinezuchtorganisationen eingegangen werden. Dabei soll die genomische Selektion als m繹glicher Einsatz in Zuchtprogrammen bewertet werden. Es wird in einer kurzen Charakterisierung auf die wirtschaftlich bedeutendsten Erbfehler beim Schwein eingegangen, um im Literaturteil das Erbfehlermonitoring der verschiedenen Schweinezuchtorganisationen charakterisieren zu k繹nnen. Im Anschluss an die Diskussion soll auf die Verantwortung von Z羹chter, Landwirt und Verband hingewiesen werden. Das Hauptziel der ferkelerzeugenden Betriebe liegt in einer hohen Anzahl an abgesetzten Ferkeln pro Sau und Jahr. Einfluss nimmt neben der Zahl an lebend geborenen Ferkeln die H繹he der Ferkelverluste. Diese sind abh瓣ngig von endogenen und exogenen Faktoren, die im Rahmen der M繹glichkeiten begrenzt werden k繹nnen. Thermochemical Heat Storage Materials and their Solar Space Heating ApplicationThermochemi
Academic Paper from the year 2020 in the subject Engineering - Chemical Engineering, grade: 1, Northwest University (Department of Chemical Engineering), course: Energy storage, language: English, abstract: Thermochemical heat storage materials offer high-energy storage densities and clean means of long-term solar energy storage. The aim of the study is to assess the potential heat storage efficiency of salt hydrates, based on sufficient hydration/dehydration performance, water sorption and cyclicability. MgSO4-7H2O, ZnSO4-7H2O and FeSO4-7H2O were evaluate based on preselected criteria. The main highlights of the dehydration result show that higher enthalpy was obtained for MgSO4 and ZnSO4, shows 2256 J g-1 and 1731 J g-1 enthalpy, respectively. During hydration process, six water molecules were absorbing by MgSO4 and ZnSO4 after pre-dehydrated temperature 150 簞C and 120 簞C, respectively. The cycle stability of MgSO4 and ZnSO4 showed better performance which give rise 1210 g-1 and 1155 J g-1 enthalpy, respectively. It was expected that FeSO4 would show higher cyclicability due to their higher enthalpy (1400 J g-1) in the first round; however, overhydration does not permit it to released larger energy. The impact of relative humidity on water sorption performance and rate of hydration were reported which showed that MgSO4 and ZnSO4 can uptake maximum water under 85 and 75 % relative humidity. Ongoing studies and the booming progress of ZnSO4-7H2O illustrate that likewise MgSO4-7H2O, it is also the potential candidate and can be use in thermochemical heat storage devices. To bring zinc sulfate heptahydrate into market, more detail studies in fields of evaluation of advanced materials and development of efficient and compact prototypes are still required. ZnSO4-7H2O is modified by impregnation method with zeolite matrices (13X-zeolite and LTA-zeolite) to improve its hydration performance. The understanding of the balancing process is very important, especially from the point of view of elderly people. However, there are a lot of open questions about the working principle of the neural system. We focus on the mathematical modelling of the neural process, which flows in the human neurotic system during standing still. There are several approaches in the literature. One approach is to apply a linear compensator (such as PD, PID, PIDA) in the model. Besides, model based predictive controllers are also feasible, when the human acts using a pre-learned control input pattern in the certain situations. In our study, we compare the operation of the two control approaches, by comparing stabilometry measures, such as typical vibration frequencies, average velocity of the center of mass of the body and maximum/average tilt angle.

Die Holzforschung AUSTRIA pr瓣sentiert in ihrem Beitrag ein Konzept zur gewerke羹bergreifenden Optimierung der Schnittstellen bei der Implementierung von TGA im mehrgeschossigen Holzbau. Breiten Raum nimmt das Thema Holzsch瓣den durch Schimmel, Pilze und Insekten ein. Anhand praktischer Beispiele werden Ursachenfindung und erfolgreiche Sanierungsverfahren erl瓣utert. Ebenso wird der Frage nachgegangen, wie eine biologische Sch瓣dlingsbek瓣mpfung durch den Einsatz nat羹rlicher Feinde wie den Buntk瓣fer gelingen kann. Dazu werden die Neuerungen der 羹berarbeiteten Holzschutznorm DIN 68800-4 zum Thema Bek瓣mpfungs- und Sanierungsma?nahmen gegen Holz zerst繹rende Pilze und Insekten erkl瓣rt. Abgerundet wird der Band mit der Vorstellung aktueller Forschungsergebnisse aus dem Holzverbundbau und ihrer praktischen Umsetzung sowie des derzeitigen Diskussionsstands zum Brandschutz im Holzbau.
Analysis and Design of Hybrid Energy Storage Systems
The most important environmental challenge today's society is facing is to reduce the effects of CO2 emissions and global warming. Such an ambitious challenge can only be achieved through a holistic approach, capable of tackling the problem from a multidisciplinary point of view. One of the core technologies called to play a critical role in this approach is the use of energy storage systems. These systems enable, among other things, the balancing of the stochastic behavior of Renewable Sources and Distributed Generation in modern Energy Systems; the efficient supply of industrial and consumer loads; the development of efficient and clean transport; and the development of Nearly-Zero Energy Buildings (nZEB) and intelligent cities. Hybrid Energy Storage Systems (HESS) consist of two (or more) storage devices with complementary key characteristics, that are able to behave jointly with better performance than any of the technologies considered individually. Recent developments in storage device technologies, interface systems, control and monitoring techniques, or visualization and information technologies have driven the implementation of HESS in many industrial, commercial and domestic applications. This Special Issue focuses on the analysis, design and implementation of hybrid energy storage systems across a broad spectrum, encompassing different storage technologies (including electrochemical, capacitive, mechanical or mechanical storage devices), engineering branches (power electronics and control strategies; energy engineering; energy engineering; chemistry; modelling, simulation and emulation techniques; data analysis and algorithms; social and economic analysis; intelligent and Internet-of-Things (IoT) systems; and so on.), applications (energy systems, renewable energy generation, industrial applications, transportation, Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) and critical load supply, etc.) and evaluation and performance (size and weight benefits, efficiency and power loss, economic analysis, environmental costs, etc.).
Self-Assembly of Polymers
Nowadays, polymer self-assembly has become extremely attractive for both biological (drug delivery, tissue engineering, scaffolds) and non-biological (packaging, semiconductors) applications. In nature, a number of key biological processes are driven by polymer self-assembly, for instance protein folding. Impressive morphologies can be assembled from polymers thanks to a diverse range of interactions involved, e.g., electrostatics, hydrophobic, hots-guest interactions, etc. Both 2D and 3D tailor-made assemblies can be designed through modern powerful techniques and approaches such as the layer-by-layer and the Langmuir-Blodgett deposition, hard and soft templating. This Special Issue highlights contributions (research papers, short communications, review articles) that focus on recent developments in polymer self-assembly for both fundamental understanding the assembly phenomenon and real applications.
Coatings to Improve Optoelectronic Devices
This selection is focused on coatings and films with applications in optoelectronics, such as photovoltaics, photocatalysis, and light-based sensors and phenomena. The studies investigate the optimal composition, crystalline structure, and morphology to deliver the different functionalities sought. Obtaining transparent p-type electrodes is challenging but extremely relevant in optoelectronics. Electric conduction mechanisms and the correlations with structure and doping are discussed. The important issue of the degradation pathways in perovskite-based solar cells and the possibilities offered by different types of coatings to encapsulate the devices as well as the beneficial effect of silica coating as an antireflection and antisoiling layer on well-established solar cells are discussed. New designs of nanoplasmonic films for chemical and biological molecule sensing are reviewed, such as the combination of metallic nanoparticles and nanostructured semiconductors and dispersing metallic or bi-metallic nanoparticles in CuO films. The impacts of structure, defects, and morphology on the photoactivated properties of WO3 films and on the shape memory behavior in Cu-Al-Ni thin films are discussed. Aggregated TiO2 nanoparticles on TiO2 layers are shown to enhance optical transmittance and confer a superhydrophilic characteristic. Finally, aspects of the fundamental characterization of thin films, Drude damping in thin films, and laser-induced deflection technique are discussed.

Wood composites have shown very good performance, and substantial service lives when correctly specified for the exposure risks present. Selection of an appropriate product for the job should be accompanied by decisions about the appropriate protection, whether this is by design, by preservative treatment or by wood modification techniques. This Special Issue, Advances in Wood Composites presents recent progress in enhancing and refining the performance and properties of wood composites by chemical and thermal modification and the application of smart nanomaterials, which have made them a particular area of interest for researchers. The utilization of bio-resourced macromolecules for polymer applications has been the subject of increasing interest, mainly for sustainability and functionality reasons. Advances in Digital Image Correlation (DIC)
Digital image correlation (DIC) has become the most popular full field measurement technique in experimental mechanics. It is a versatile and inexpensive measurement method that provides a large amount of experimental data. Because DIC takes advantage of a huge variety of image modalities, the technique allows covering a wide range of space and time scales. Stereo extends the scope of DIC to non-planar cases, which are more representative of industrial use cases. With the development of tomography, digital volume correlation now provides access to volumetric data, enabling the study of the inner behavior of materials and structures.However, the use of DIC data to quantitatively validate models or accurately identify a set of constitutive parameters remains challenging. One of the reasons lies in the compromises between measurement resolution and spatial resolution. Second, the question of the boundary conditions is still open. Another reason is that the measured displacements are not directly comparable with usual simulations. Finally, the use of full field data leads to new computational challenges.
Modelling and Simulation of Sheet Metal Forming Processes
The numerical simulation of sheet metal forming processes has become an indispensable tool for the design of components and their forming processes. This role was attained due to the huge impact in reducing time to market and the cost of developing new components in industries ranging from automotive to packing, as well as enabling an improved understanding of the deformation mechanisms and their interaction with process parameters. Despite being a consolidated tool, its potential for application continues to be discovered with the continuous need to simulate more complex processes, including the integration of the various processes involved in the production of a sheet metal component and the analysis of in-service behavior. The quest for more robust and sustainable processes has also changed its deterministic character into stochastic to be able to consider the scatter in mechanical properties induced by previous manufacturing processes. Faced with these challenges, this Special Issue presents scientific advances in the development of numerical tools that improve the prediction results for conventional forming process, enable the development of new forming processes, or contribute to the integration of several manufacturing processes, highlighting the growing multidisciplinary characteristic of this field.
Utilization of Solar Energy in Absorption Refrigeration

Utilization of solar energy by thermal conversion method, is of low cost, but it requires high density of solar radiation. Electrical conversion method, on the other hand, is expensive, but it does not need high density of solar radiation. One of the most important applications of thermal conversion of solar energy, is absorption refrigeration. As there are many factors affecting the process of solar refrigeration, a lot of research work must be carried out, before deciding an optimum design of solar refrigeration systems, which utilize solar energy at a low cost. The main objective of this research article is to design and construct an apparatus which can be used, as a test rig, by research students, to carry out experiments, regarding the performance of solar absorption refrigeration systems. The apparatus has been designed and constructed so as to be used indoors. One of the many different factors which affect the performance of solar absorption refrigeration systems, has been chosen, to test the apparatus, for functioning. This is the effect of condenser temperature, on the performance of solar absorption refrigeration systems. The apparatus has been tested for three different values of condenser temperature, and yielded very good results. The experimental work proves that, the coefficient of performance of a solar absorption refrigeration system, is high, at a low condenser temperature. At a condenser temperature of about 25簞C, the actual coefficient of performance, obtained is 0.019, compared with a theoretical value of 0.062. And at a condenser temperature of about 15簞C, the actual coefficient of performance is 0.026, compared with a theoretical
Torsionstragmodell extern vorgespannter Kreisringsegmente mit trockenen Fugen.
Seit einigen Jahren kommt die Segmentbauweise f羹r die Errichtung von Windenergieanlagen (WEA) zum Einsatz. Die entstehenden Fugen werden je nach Lage und Beanspruchung unterschiedlich ausgebildet. In der Arbeit werden die horizontalen Fugen von WEA aus Kreisringsegmenten behandelt. Diese Fugen werden seit einiger Zeit als Trockenfugen ausgef羹hrt. Die Fugen werden durch eine CNC-Schleifmaschine plan geschliffen und nach dem Errichten extern vorgespannt. Lediglich der Traganteil der Reibkr瓣fte 羹bertr瓣gt in den Fugen entstehende Schubspannungen. Die Arbeit konzentriert sich auf die ?bertragung der Schubspannungen aus Torsion. Die derzeitigen Tragf瓣higkeitsmodelle werden in der Arbeit widerlegt und ein neues Modell konnte entwickelt werden. Numerische Berechnungen sowie versuchstechnisch ermittelte Tragf瓣higkeiten eines Kleinversuches aus Aluminium konnten das Modell best瓣tigen. Bei der Verwendung des Materials Stahlbeton in Gro?versuchen konnten die im Modell ermittelten Tragf瓣higkeiten nur in Teilen erreicht werden. Zum Ende der Arbeit wurde eine vereinfachte Torsionstragf瓣higkeitskurve f羹r extern vorgespannte Kreisringquerschnitte mit trockenen Fugen herausgearbeitet.
Venturing Into Mainstream Agriculture After School? A Case Study of the University of Deve
Bachelor Thesis from the year 2018 in the subject Agrarian Studies, grade: 1, University for Development studies (faculty of agribusiness and communication sciences), course: SOCIAL CHANGE COMMUNICATION, language: English, abstract: The core mandate of this study is to measure the readiness of graduates who form a chunk of the skilled unemployed in the country to venture into mainstream farming as an alternative employment. In Ghana, agriculture in general and farming in particular is the only source of employment for the youth. When packaged well, agriculture can create a lot of jobs for the youth which will reduce the pressure on the other sectors. The methods employed in this study include both qualitative and quantitative methods of conducting research. Simple random sampling were used to obtain response from the population under study with the use of questionnaire in a form of a survey. Analytical tools such as excel, table and graphs are also used in computing, analyzing and interpretation of the findings of this study. At the end of the study, policy recommendations for the respective agencies and agents on how to increase the willingness of young people to venture in to the aforementioned field are given.

De acceptatie van industrie 4.0 komt voort uit 'betere' en 'meer ontwikkelde' termen over huidige en vroegere technologie禱n. Met slimme nieuwe technologie禱n is het mogelijk om alle machines, computers, dingen op afstand, de mens, het internet etc. in 矇矇n platform aan te sluiten om aan de verwachtingen te voldoen en een betere controle te krijgen. 0, de wortels en voordelen ervan worden met de meest gebruikte technologie禱n en ondersteunende systemen uitgelegd in hoofdstuk 1. In hoofdstuk 2 worden de effecten van industrie 4.0 op de voedingsindustrie en de landbouw toegelicht met enkele voorbeelden en gangbare technologie禱n, genaamd Agro-food 4.0 en Landbouw 4.0. Bovendien worden nieuwe technologische toepassingen in de slimme landbouw genoemd met enkele voorbeelden. In het volgende hoofdstuk zal de bescherming van het milieu op basis van het duurzaamheidsconcept worden toegelicht.
