Transmission Network Expansion Planning Problem Considering SCC and Active Power Losses
Due to the accelerated growth of electricity demand, the scarcity of primary resources to produce electricity, and technological advances in recent years, electricity companies must face and solve these challenges in the best possible way, and for that, the Transmission Network Expansion Planning (TNEP) plays a crucial role, since the decisions taken in long term planning determine the optimal form of expansion of the networks, to respond to these needs of electricity demands. On the other hand, there is also the tendency to leave the TNEP problem more efficient, robust, and closer to to what happens in real electrical networks. For these reasons, this article proposes a methodology to solve the TNEP problem considering active power losses. On the other hand, is developed a modeling and solution approach to the static and multistage transmission network expansion planning problem considering series capacitive compensation and active power losses. The transmission network expansion planning is formulated as a mixed integer nonlinear programming problem and solved through a highly efficient genetic algorithm. Furthermore, the Villasana Garver's constructive heuristic algorithm is implemented to render the configurations of the genetic algorithm feasible. The installation of series capacitive compensation devices is carried out with the aim of modifying the reactance of the original circuit. The linearization of active power losses is done through piecewise linear functions.
The Impact of Polymer Electrolyte Properties on Lithium-Ion Batteries
In this review, different types of electrolytes and their electrical and mechanical properties have been reported and studied to evaluate their effect on LIB performance. It was noticed that the electrolyte component and solvent in polymer electrolytes have a great influence on the ionic conductivity, Li+ migration, interfacial contact between electrolyte and electrode, mechanical properties, and the performance of the entire battery. The morphology of incorporated additive materials (nanoparticles, nanowires, nanofillers, salt, etc.) may well contribute to the amelioration of the ion transport pathway, which raises the lithium-ion conductivity. A basic understanding of the chemical reaction routes and the electrolyte structure would facilitate innovation in the battery. The structural, electrochemical, and mechanical properties of new promising materials should be investigated in advance for application in advanced lithium-ion batteries. The electrochemical behavior is inextricably related to the structure. IL-based solid polymer electrolytes appear as a promising material for long-term lithium-ion batteries despite showing low ionic conductivity but exhibiting more advantages than conventional carbonate electrolytes such as good safety, stability, good electrochemical performance, good mechanical stability, and enhanced energy density. Since solid electrolytes exhibit low ionic conductivity, ILs used in SPEs increased their conductivity. In a battery, porous materials appear to offer good properties in terms of lithium ionic conductivity, with no leakage and low interface resistance, and gel-based LIBs demonstrate a good working performance, long cycling life, and high energy density. Good polymer electrolytes need to be highly conductive, safe, highly mechanically and thermally stable, and easy for film formation.

Seasonal Energy Storage with Power-to-Methane Technology
For a sustainable future, the need to use renewable sources to produce electricity is inevitable. Some of these sources-particularly the widely available solar power-are weather-dependent; therefore, utility-scale energy storage will be more and more important. These solar and wind power fluctuations range from minutes (passing cloud) to whole seasons (winter/summer differences). Short-term storage can be solved (at least theoretically) with batteries; however, seasonal storage-due to the amount of storable energy and the self-discharging of some storage methods-is still a challenge to be solved in the near future. We believe that biological Power-to-Methane technology-especially combined with biogas refinement-will be a significant player in the energy storage market within less than a decade. The technology produces high-purity methane, which can be considered-by using green energy and carbon dioxide of biological origin-as a Renewable Natural Gas, or RNG. The ease of storage and use of methane, as well as the effective carbon-freeness, can make it a competitor for batteries or hydrogen-based storage, especially for storage times exceeding several months.

Modelling of Hysteresis
In order to model a real system, differential equations are usually derived, which are based on physical principles. When modelling a characteristic hysteresis, the mathematical equations are also based on the physics underlying hysteresis, but they are nonlinear effects. Therefore, a different approach is taken in the modelling. A measurement is used as the basis for modelling. This means that a specific measurement curve that determines the parameters must first be available. The advantage of this method is that it can be applied to many technical fields. The method presented here can be verified using the example of piezo elements, but it can also be applied to the magnetization characteristic of ferromagnetic materials. The methods of Preisach and Mayergoyz are presented and explained in this booklet. Examples are calculated with Matlab. The Matlab source code is printed at the end.

Advances in Automated Driving Systems
Electrification, automation of vehicle control, digitalization and new mobility are the mega-trends in automotive engineering, and they are strongly connected. While many demonstrations for highly automated vehicles have been made worldwide, many challenges remain in bringing automated vehicles to the market for private and commercial use. Recent Advances in Theoretical and Computational Modeling of Composite Materials and Structures
The advancement in manufacturing technology and scientific research has improved the development of enhanced composite materials with tailored properties depending on their design requirements in many engineering fields, as well as in thermal and energy management. Some representative examples of advanced materials in many smart applications and complex structures rely on laminated composites, functionally graded materials (FGMs), and carbon-based constituents, primarily carbon nanotubes (CNTs), and graphene sheets or nanoplatelets, because of their remarkable mechanical properties, electrical conductivity and high permeability. For such materials, experimental tests usually require a large economical effort because of the complex nature of each constituent, together with many environmental, geometrical and or mechanical uncertainties of non-conventional specimens. At the same time, the theoretical and/or computational approaches represent a valid alternative for designing complex manufacts with more flexibility. In such a context, the development of advanced theoretical and computational models for composite materials and structures is a subject of active research, as explored here for a large variety of structural members, involving the static, dynamic, buckling, and damage/fracturing problems at different scales.

These published papers can be categorized into four main groups, as follows: Length measurement: covering new designs, from micro/nanogap measurement with laser triangulation sensors and laser interferometers to very-long-distance, newly developed mode-locked femtosecond lasers.Surface profile and form measurements: covering technologies with new confocal sensors and imagine sensors: in situ and on-machine measurements.Angle measurements: these include a new 2D precision level design, a review of angle measurement with mode-locked femtosecond lasers, and multi-axis machine tool squareness measurement.Other laboratory systems: these include a water cooling temperature control system and a computer-aided inspection framework for CMM performance evaluation.
Renewable Energy and Energy Saving
Climate change mitigation and adaptation are key challenges of the 21st century. These challenges include global energy consumption and dependence on fossil fuels, which are addressed in global energy policies. About two-thirds of global greenhouse gas emissions are linked to the burning of fossil fuels used for heating, electricity, transport, and industry. Therefore, the world is looking for the most reliable, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly energy sources coupled with energy saving, which is a clean and low-cost solution to the growing demand for energy. As a clear example of this, cities are integrating renewable energies into their smart city plans.This book aims to advance the contribution of the use of renewable energies and energy saving in order to achieve a more sustainable world.
Ship Structures
This book is a printed edition of the Special Issue on ship structures that was published in the Journal of Marine Science and Engineering. It contains an editorial and fifteen peer reviewed research studies in the field of ship structural design, analysis, and degradation. Two studies deal with corrosion degradation in ship structures, while the remaining contributions discuss three major steps for the efficient design and analysis of ship structures, i.e., the modelling of the environment and environmental loads, the analysis of a ship's structural response, and the definition of criteria for different failure modes of ship structures.

Contactless System for Measurement and Evaluation of Machined Surfaces
This book presents a contactless system for the measurement and evaluation of selected characteristics of machined surfaces. It describes the design and construction of new equipment designed for contactless characterization of surface geometry working based on laser profilometry by triangulation principle. The book focuses on the quality assessment of surfaces produced by the technology of abrasive waterjet cutting (AWJ) and by laser. The author analyses the performed experiment of measurement of machined surfaces of samples of aluminum, stainless steel, and constructional steel using the contactless method with the LPM system and contact method using Mitutoyo SJ 400 surface roughness tester.
Gamification of Total Quality Management
Gamification is a type of mechanism design that has become increasingly popular in recent years. It is a design theory that aims at making the social environment more explicitly game-like, in order to motivate people in the same way as they are motivated by recreational games. The theory in this book builds on ideas on how games like Monopoly, Pac-Man and Minecraft can be useful for understanding behaviour at the strategical, tactical and operational levels of the organisation, and it argues that TQM can be implemented when using these three game models in the context of a strategy known as the bootstrap algorithm.

10th EASN International Conference on Innovation in Aviation & Space to the Satisfaction of the European Citizens

Coating and drying processes for functional films in polymer solar cells - from laboratory to pilot scale
Polymer solar cells can be produced by a continuous low cost coating and drying process. This work details a specialized experimental set-up to enable large scale roll to roll processing. Material properties such as surface energy, surface tension, and viscosity are presented and modelled. The impact of coating method, as well as process parameters (e.g. coating speed, shear rate, solvent composition) on process stability and film properties, is discussed.

Assessment of least-cost pathways for decarbonising Europe's power supply
This work analyses technological least-cost pathways for deep emission reductions in the European power sector. It seeks a better understanding of the role renewable energies play in the transformation process up to 2050. Therefore, a model is developed which optimises capacity expansion and hourly dispatch of both conventional and renewable power generation, transmission grids and storage facilities in all hours of the analysed years. The model is applied to four long-term scenarios.
