Sustainable Agriculture in Egypt
This book consists of 10 Chapters in 4 Parts. The first Part is an introduction and contains Chapter 1 to introduce the book chapters to the audiences. The second Part consists of two chapters under the name, Impact of Climate Change on Crop Production and the Physiological and Biochemical Basis for Crops Tolerance. The Chapter 2 focus on critical periods of crop plants to stress conditions and the expected impacts of climate changes mainly on the productivity and quality of field crops. While, Chapter 3 highlights the foundations of crop tolerance to environmental stress and plant traits relevant to stress tolerance. It is devoted to explain and discuss mechanisms of adaptation to environmental stress conditions and addresses various plant traits related to stress environmental tolerance i.e. phenological, morpho-physiological and biochemical traits which could be used as selection criteria for crops improvement. The third Part consists of 5 Chapters under the theme "Improve Crop Adaptability and Stability to Climate Change and Modern Technology". Chapter 4 highlights the most important strategic food grain crop (wheat), Chapter 5 focuses the important staple food crop (rice), while Chapter 6 deals with one of the most important food legume crops (faba bean). Chapter 7 and 8 discuss two important oil crops (sesame and sunflower). However, Chapter 9 focuses on cotton as one of the most important fiber crops. The author addresses these crops under the following headings: genotype x environment interaction and its relation to climatic change on yield production, performance of genotypes in response to environmental changes, adaptability and yield stability to environmental conditions, additive main effects and multiplicative interaction model, gene action, genetic behavior and heritability for traits related to environmental stress tolerance, role of recent approaches, biotechnology and nanotechnology. This is besides how can measure sensitivity of genotypes to environmental stress, and finally the appropriate agricultural practices to mitigate environmental stress on crops under attention. The book ends with Chapter No. 10 where the author presents an update of the book topics, present the most important conclusions and recommendations from all chapters. This book has been prepared and supported by recent references and statistics with coloured tables and illustrations for audiences interested in crop science, environment, plant breeding, genetics and biotechnology, as well as postgraduate students and researchers in universities and research centres.
A History of Keeping and Managing Doubled and Two-Queen Hives
Alan Wade has honed the craft of keeping bees for over forty years. As an experienced scientist applying himself to this ancient pastime, he brings a wealth of knowledge on the nature of bees and practical aspects of their upkeep. Healthy productive bees should be managed in a way that harness their natural instincts to maximise their wellbeing, an idea that recalls the old adage: Look after your bees and they will look after you. Honey bees, he says, should not be left to their own devices: one needs to be a keeper not an owner of bees.In this book Wade outlines approaches to hive building with more than a single queen. They fall into two distinct categories: single-queen hives sharing common honey storage space and true multiple-queen hives hosting more than one queen. A History of Keeping and Managing Doubled and Two-Queen Hives explains how a honey bee colony with a second laying queen can be established and operated. The book retraces the long journey of discovery of such hives, their propensity to produce rivers of honey as well as the limitations and problems that arise in their management.
Principles in Seed Vigour Testing
Seed is both the starting and ending point for a vast majority of those engaged in Agriculture. The one UG practical class on "seed vigor" compelled me to learn more and more and forced me to compile a century and quarter work done in the field of seed vigour by national and international institutes which ultimately took the shape of this book duly providing basic principles in Seed vigour for easy understanding of the students, staff and person engaged in seed industry. Questions and Numerical problems were incorporated for the benefit of students. In a country like India bestowed with diversified agro-climatic conditions has rendered seed production of numerous location specific crop varieties feasible. Yet, retention of their viability and germination has become a serious problem and causing much loss to the end users, the farming community. In the present scenario of climate change, which includes the altered temperatures, photoperiods, rainfall and humidity, etc., seed vigor is declining very rapidly with the length of storage. Short periods of storage under adverse conditions too affect seed vigor more than viability and vigor is lost more rapidly than viability. Loss of vigor is more complex than just physical deterioration. Moreover, seed vigor cannot be measured reliably by standard germination test alone., etc. have rendered the sustainability of farmers is in doubt. With altered climatic conditions vigor is being affected prior to the viability and germination. So this is the need of hour for safe guarding the interests of both farmers as end users of seed and those engaged in seed to seed in public and private sectors. This book offers the basic input for learning by covering all important fundamental topics in a systematic manner with principles affecting seed vigour as well as recent advances in seed vigor and is expected to serve the twin purposes as a textbook for introductory course in seed vigor testing for undergraduate students and as a reference book for Post graduate students and Researchers in seed production, processing, packaging and seed marketing industry in general and all those engaged in seed business in particular. The book basically deals with problems related to seed vigor faced by seed industry on one hand end users or farmers on the other and suggest ways and means to solve the problem. This book also focuses on advances in understanding vigor at molecular level in various crops.
Tanaman Pepohonan Pencegah Pergeseran Tanah Dan Memperkuat Struktur Tanah Edisi Bilingual
Tanaman Pepohonan Pencegah Pergeseran Tanah Dan Memperkuat Struktur Tanah Edisi Bilingual Dalam Bahasa Indonesia Serta Bahasa Sunda.

Raising Rabbits
Have you been thinking about adopting rabbits for meat or as cuddly pets? If so, this book is a treasure of all the compressed information you can't miss. And it's fun to read too. Rabbits... These seemingly easy-going, laid-back animals are a complex and crucial part of any ecosystem we find them in. They have been observed to cause both positive and negative changes to environments in which they are adopted and bred into. However, they're also the sweetest, incredibly affectionate, and the least complicated animals if they fall into the right hands. The information provided in the book, which is brilliantly condensed and exceptionally well-formatted, makes sure you're an aware and knowledgeable future owner of this fluffy species. Once you've learned which breed would suit your environment the best, you can learn all about how to raise and maintain them, all while going through a ton of fun facts. Since rabbits aren't as straightforward to understand and communicate with, it is important to know everything possible that might help you notice their altered behavior in case of health or other sorts of danger. After reading this book, you will know: How to raise your rabbits happy and healthy How to identify any plausible risk factors How they move, how their vision works, how they perceive the world around themHow to notice altered behavior with risks of environmental hazards, and changing ecosystemAnd so much more!

Brassinosteroids
J.W. Mitchell, N.B. Mandava and others' 1970 publication in Nature, "Brassins-A New Family of Plant Hormones from Rape Pollen" announced the discovery of a new plant hormone, brassinolide, which would also mark the sixth and newest group of plant hormones, brassinosteroids. This monograph details the early research leading to the isolation and synthesis of the first brassinosteroid to current research in the field. The 50 years of brassinosteroid research can be separated in two parts; The first 25 years saw the innovation of different bioassays and isolation techniques while the last 25 years saw the investigation into brassinosteroids signaling, cross talk, stress response, and agricultural application. Since the discovery of brassinolide, there have now been 62 brassinosteroids identified through international research efforts. Several of these have been targeted for agricultural use with patents in many countries. Homobrassinolide is one such brassinosteroid that helps improve crop yield and fruit sweetness while conferring stress resistance. Instant Insights: Improving Crop Nutrient Use Efficiency
This specially curated collection features four reviews of current and key research on improving crop nutrient use efficiency. The first chapter explores the relationship between rhizobacteria and plant roots, looking primarily at the recruitment of rhizobacteria by the plant to carry out particular functions, such as nutrient acquisition. The chapter highlights our current understanding of the molecular determinants of legume nodulation as well as challenges for improvements of biological nitrogen fixation in legumes and non-legumes. The second chapter considers the rising use of nitrogen (N) fertilizer in agriculture and its role in the shrinking contribution of soil organic N. The chapter explores the impact of the inefficient management of N (low nitrogen-use efficiency) and the consequent developments of major environmental issues, such as pollution to groundwater, oceans and the atmosphere. The third chapter addresses key issues in using N fertilizers in wheat production, such as product cost and environmental impact. The chapter summarises the development of N-efficient cultivars and their economic benefits, as well as their role in reducing the environmental impact of excessive N fertilizer inputs, whilst maintaining respectable yields. The final chapter considers the use of breeding techniques, including genetic variability, to develop more efficient wheat varieties with improved traits related to nitrogen capture, nitrogen assimilation and nitrogen remobilization.
Instant Insights: Improving Crop Disease Management
This specially curated collection features four reviews of current and key research on improving crop disease management. The first chapter reviews strategies for limiting foliar disease development in wheat and barley crops, such as crop rotations, intercropping, gene deployment and conservation tillage. It explores the effectiveness of each strategy against particular foliar diseases, as well as how these strategies can be deployed to reduce inoculum sources for residue-borne cereal leaf diseases. The second chapter considers the use of integrated disease management (IDM) to prevent or reduce yield loss in wheat. The chapter reviews the tactics/tools used in IDM, such as scouting, disease identification and chemical control, and explores how these tactics can be implemented to maximise the effectiveness of managing diseases in wheat. The third chapter assesses how IDM can be applied to barley production and considers the different disease threats, the tools available and possible approaches to deploying them. It also reviews the role of agronomy and how it can be used to optimise these tools. The final chapter reviews the use of IDM in grain legume production and explores the deployment of traditional strategies, such as field and crop management, as well as advanced monitoring methods, modelling and molecular methods to control disease outbreaks in grain legumes.
Big Data in Bioeconomy
This edited open access book presents the comprehensive outcome of The European DataBio Project, which examined new data-driven methods to shape a bioeconomy. These methods are used to develop new and sustainable ways to use forest, farm and fishery resources. As a European initiative, the goal is to use these new findings to support decision-makers and producers - meaning farmers, land and forest owners and fishermen. With their 27 pilot projects from 17 countries, the authors examine important sectors and highlight examples where modern data-driven methods were used to increase sustainability. How can farmers, foresters or fishermen use these insights in their daily lives? The authors answer this and other questions for our readers. The first four parts of this book give an overview of the big data technologies relevant for optimal raw material gathering. The next three parts put these technologies into perspective, by showing useable applications from farming, forestry andfishery. The final part of this book gives a summary and a view on the future. With its broad outlook and variety of topics, this book is an enrichment for students and scientists in bioeconomy, biodiversity and renewable resources.

The first chapter reviews the impact of feeding ruminants cereal grains on animal physiology and health. The chapter explores the use of starch-containing cereal grains as a feedstuff to improve animal efficiency and performance, as well as to reduce the environmental footprint of ruminant animal production. The second chapter discusses key environmental trade-offs in the use of crops as livestock feed. It reviews key elements in trade-off analysis and explores opportunities for making better use of existing feed resources and producing more feed biomass of higher fodder quality. The third chapter reviews ways of optimising the use of barley for animal feed, from production and breeding through to the application of new technologies such as near infrared spectroscopy and molecular markers. The fourth chapter reviews the use of sorghum as an important source of fodder and forage. It reviews the different types of sorghum used for forage and other applications, and then provides a detailed discussion of the use of forage sorghum as feed for ruminants. The final chapter discusses the use of soybean meal (SBM) as an animal feed. It assesses the nutritional content of SBM, as well dealing with its anti-nutritive compounds in optimising its use.
Instant Insights: Improving Crop Weed Management
This specially curated collection features five reviews of current and key research on improving crop weed management. The first chapter highlights the need for alternative weed control strategies that will preserve herbicide efficacy, as well as agricultural and environmental sustainability. The chapter discusses the role of integrated weed management (IWM) in achieving this through the implementation of practices that can improve plant health, such as crop rotations and no-till farming. The second chapter considers the use of IWM in barley cultivation. After an initial outline of more traditional control methods, primarily the use of herbicides, the chapter provides an example of the successful implementation of IWM in barley in the form of two case studies. The third chapter reviews the impact of weeds on maize grown under temperate conditions in the United States and Europe. It provides a summary of current weed management systems and discusses the issue of herbicide resistance in weed varieties. The fourth chapter reviews the use of IWM in rice cultivation for improved crop productivity and performance and offers detailed discussions on the variety of techniques that can be incorporated into an IWM strategy to achieve this. The final chapter presents a number of weed management options and considerations for sorghum, and discusses the critical period for weed control to occur.
