Economics of Renewable Energy
Renewable energy (RE) technologies' market is on the rise, and the world is witnessing a new energy transition with many factors and drivers pushing it. To properly understand this phenomenon, it is vital to apprehend the correlation between the development of economies and the different energy transitions through history. It is also important to understand the rationale behind the current transition to renewables and their economy; this book presents and discusses both points. The histories of energy transitions, development of economies and industrial civilizations, all go hand in hand. Going back in time, people only needed to cover their basic needs, such as food, which -at the very beginning- was met by using firewood for cooking and heating. Further in time, people star-ted practicing agriculture in the first formed human communities, essentially depending on the sun for that practice, in combination with biomass. As economies evolved and developed into complex forms, firewood and other biomass were no longer able to meet the increasing demand in energy. So, people started turning into hydropower, then to coal during the 19th century.
Principals of Digital Communication Systems
Communication has been one of the deepest needs of the human race throughout recorded history. It is essential to forming social unions, to educating the young, and to expressing a myriad of emotions and needs. Good communication is central to a civilized society. The various communication disciplines in engineering have the purpose of providing technological aids to human communication. One could view the smoke signals and drum rolls of primitive societies as being technological aids to communication, but communication technology as we view it today became important with telegraphy, then telephony, then video, then computer communication, and today the amazing mixture of all of these in inexpensive, small portable devices. Initially these technologies were developed as separate networks and were viewed as having little in common. As these networks grew, however, the fact that all parts of a given network had to work together, coupled with the fact that different components were developed at different times using different design methodologies, caused an increased focus on the underlying principles and architectural understanding required for continued system evolution.

Piezoelectric Bending Transducers
The wide range of industrial applications for piezoelectric bending transducers as actuators and high-precision positioning systems requires their performance to be adapted to the respective task. This presupposes that it is already possible to predict the static and dynamic behaviour of such actuator structures in the respective application during the design and development phase. The geometric dimensions of the individual active and passive layers, their sequence in the layer system and their elasto- and electromechanical properties are key factors here. This book focuses on the analytical description of the static and dynamic behaviour of piezoelectric multilayer bending transducers. It is intended to provide students of natural sciences and engineering as well as engineers and scientists in practice with a solid engineering tool for the design of piezoceramic bending transducers. The benefits of the analytical description obtained are demonstrated based on real measurements on a monomorph in multilayer technology. The requirements for understanding the material are limited to basic knowledge of one- and multidimensional analysis as well as elementary Newtonian mechanics, technical mechanics and electricity.

Agrivoltaics
Agrivoltaics is the dual use of land for solar energy production and agriculture. The technique was first conceived by Adolf Goetzberger and Armin Zastrow in 1981. Vertical solar panels, east to west orientation, with bifacial modules near Donaueschingen, Germany. Many agricultural activities can be combined with solar, including plant crops, livestock, greenhouses, and wild plants to provide pollinator support. Agrivoltaics system can include solar panels between crops, elevated above crops, or on greenhouses. Solar panels help plants to retain moisture and lower temperatures, and can provide shelter for livestock animals. The dual use of land can also provide a diversified income stream for farmers. Solar panels block light, which means that the design of dual use systems can require trade-offs between optimizing crop yield, crop quality, and energy pro-duction. Some crops and livestock benefit from the increased shade, lessening or even eliminating the trade-off.
High Resolution and Low Jitter Full Custom Adpll Architectures
All digital PLLs are being considered as an effective replacement due to high immunity of digital circuits to PVT variations. However, ADPLLs suffer from the problem of low resolution and high jitter/ phase noise apart from fundamental problems of complex design procedures. It was found through literature surveys and experimental verifications that there are still some challenges related to resolution, jitter/phase noise that need to be addressed, in the existing ADPLLs. Similarly, it was also found that there is a shortcoming in the models used to describe ADPLLs. In this regard, an extensive classification of existing ADPLL architectures was made. Some of the architectures found in literature were critically examined by redesigning and simulation verification at various levels of design with a wide set of simulation/emulation tools. Comparative analysis was done and shortcomings in each architecture were critically identified. Methods to improve resolution and phase noise were proposed and verified using simulation.
Sensorless Control for High-Speed Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors
Benefiting from advancements in power electronics and automatic control technologies, the Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) has emerged as a pivotal drive component in industrial automation, renewable energy, and aerospace applications, owing to its high power density, rapid dynamic response, and sensorless operation potential. However, challenges persist in achieving reliable full-speed-range (zero-low to high-speed) sensorless control due to limitations of single-method adaptability and mechanical sensor-induced cost and reliability issues. This study proposes a hybrid sensorless control framework integrating domain-specific optimization and dynamic switching mechanisms to enable seamless full-speed-range operation.
Solar Home Systems (SHS)
Solar home systems (SHS) are stand-alone photovoltaic systems that offer a cost-effective mode of supplying amenity power for lighting and appliances to remote off-grid households. In rural areas, that are not connected to the grid, SHS can be used to meet a household's energy demand fulfilling basic electric needs. Globally SHS provide power to hundreds of thousands of households in remote locations where electrification by the grid is not feasible. SHS usually operate at a rated voltage of 12 V direct current (DC) and provide power for low power DC- appliances such as lights, radios and small TVs for about three to five hours a day. Further-more they use appliances such as cables, switches, mounts, and structural parts and power conditioners/inverters, which change 12/ 24 V power to 240 VAC power for larger appliances. SHS are best used with efficient appliances so as to limit the size of the array.

Two Rotor Axial Flus Machine for Wind Energy Generation
Nowadays, the need of energy resources is increasing at a much faster rate. We need to capitalize all the available options to complete all our needs with ease. In the wind energy generation system up till now almost all the systems are employing radial generator which is having single rotor and single stator. However, many researches show a new concept for the generator used in wind turbines that is use of double rotor which has many advantages over a traditional single rotor. This book presents the axial flux machine technology which consists of one stator and two rotors. The stator is located in the middle of the two rotors and slotted on both sides.
Ubiquitous Power Internet of Things for Power Monitoring Systems
The world is revolutionized from the first direct-current distribution system in New York City in 1882 to our current electric power system. Electricity demand is increasing exponentially and it will continue to increase. In India, our generation for the year 2021- 22 was 1356 billion units, which is around a 9.83% increase compared to last year. The rise in electricity demand cannot be fulfilled by conventional generation alone. The non-conventional generation is used with conventional generation to meet the rise in power demand. One of the objectives of power utility is to supply reliable power to the consumers. This can only be achieved if the generation and demand are matched. But the challenge with the present system is that the generation is distributed and there is a constant change in load demand. So a smart system that can handle the continuously changing demand along with the integration of non-conventional resources is needed and the system should adapt according to the user requirements.

PAPR reduction using Intelligent Optimization Algorithms
In Intensity-Modulated Direct Detection Optical Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (IM/DD-OOFDM) communication systems, a lower Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) is essential for improving system performance. In order to reduce the high PAPR, a Discrete Forest Optimization Algorithm (DFOA) is integrated with the classical Selective Mapping (SLM) method in IM/DD-OFDM system. This approach successfully optimizes the values of phase factors, minimizes the search numbers, and reduces computational complexity. To evaluate the impact of the DFOA-SLM method on PAPR reduction, the parameters of the DFOA-SLM method play a crucial role in decreasing the PAPR in an IM/DD optical OFDM system. The DFOA-SLM method demonstrates improved Bit Error Rate (BER) performance, power spectral density (PSD), and power saving performance compared to other PAPR reduction methods.

Solar Water Thermal Heating Systems for Village Compound in Egypt
A lot of people utilize renewable energy sources (RESs) for heating, particularly in solar water heaters (SWH). Despite the accessibility and affordability of SWH technologies in Egypt, no comprehensive study has been conducted to explain the potential of Egyptian compounds to provide hot water for village home usage. For this reason, the first dynamical simulation of a solar heating system to supply sanitary hot water (SHW) and the hot water needed to heat 756 villages in the Palm Hilis compound in New Cairo, Egypt, is attempted in this year-long project. The Metonym software, which is modeled in TSOLTM, is used to extract the climate data. In addition to using an auxiliary gas boiler, a one-year dynamic analysis that took into account all potential losses were carried out. Based on the results, the installed collector power of SWHS is 732 kW, and the solar energy contribution to DHW is 14.27 MWh. Solar energy powers 97% of the system. In terms of economics, COE and NPV are 0.00083 and 57072 $/kWh, respectively. In addition, the suggested system has a 4.4-year payback period and costs 0.223 dollars for 1 m3 of hot water.
