Exploring the relationship between formal and informal care, this book develops ideas for a 'caring economy', showing the potential to integrate paid-for and unpaid care within a framework of solidarity based on the strengths of the community, working to improve the quality and quantity of state-funded care provision while sharing unpaid support more widely as a community responsibility.

SACKRED Birth
Hospitals, health plans, and quality organizations generally define safety as the absence of a preventable harm and subsequently interpret decreasing trends in adverse physical outcomes as indicators of reducing harm and improving quality. Karen Antoinette Scott situates the contemporary provision of obstetric care and evaluation of obstetric quality in a broader historical context to illuminate a culture of neutral apathy and detached concern towards the lives of Black women, men, and children, dating back to antebellum era ideologies and practices of anti-Black racism and anti-Black misogyny. Scott challenges conventional obstetric quality ethics, leadership, theories, measures, and methodologies that primarily focus on adverse outcomes, effectively excluding patient experiences and community wisdom. SACKRED Birth argues the need for a more culturally and scientifically responsive, relevant, and rigorous obstetric quality paradigm defined, valued, and shaped for, by, and with Black mothers and birthing people. Using community-based focus groups and consensus dialogue, Scott establishes new obstetric quality norms and methodologies to guide scholars, professionals, and advocates in understanding, investigating, and interpreting clinical practice, decision-making, and care delivery during childbirth in a manner that affirms the humanity, power, and potential, not pathology, of Blackness, Black reproducing bodies, and Black births in hospital settings.

For example, he discusses how misaligned approaches to patient safety have hindered progress and why fragmented management systems continue to exacerbate burnout. He also explores the importance of interprofessional collaboration, offering insights into how healthcare systems can foster empowerment and ownership by eliminating conflict and focusing on comprehensive understanding. This book offers a much-needed alternative for healthcare leaders, professionals, and administrators seeking to enact lasting, transformative change. It provides a methodology along with tools designed for practical implementation in complex environments where the stakes are high. It's Not What You're Thinking is essential reading for anyone ready to challenge the status quo and build a more reliable, sustainable system.

Medical students have to incorporate this information during the fourth year when they are overwhelmed by the rigorousness of the last year of medical school study already overstrained by grades, matching program, graduation preparedness and future residency plans. There must be a way to make this information interesting and easy to assimilate. This manual provides the student the master key concepts of all aspects of clinical neurology.Notwithstanding, the conceptual framework outlines the steps in the diagnostic workup as described by expert clinicians. We hope these lectures will continue to serve medical students as well as physicians and even non-physicians individuals interested in the nervous system. We are sure this manual will sale well among medical students and physicians in general, not only from Texas Tech but also from other medical schools.
