Still half asleep and just coming in to work at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia, I waved my hand back and forth, as if to tell him to not bother me. Entering the emergency room, I noticed Doctor McCall as he ran behind one of the many drawn blue curtains. Several nurses followed close behind. "What's the deal?" I asked the nurse sitting behind the nurse's station. "Car accident victim, I think," she replied, never looking up from the magazine she was reading. I walked over to the curtain and slowly peeked inside. That's bad, I thought, as I saw an older woman laying on an ambulance gurney, her right leg bent backwards beneath her body. "Kiser, you wait out front and watch for Mr. Champney. He is flying in from Atlanta and should be here in about 30 minutes," said the head nurse, as she quickly pointed her finger toward the front of the hospital. Walking toward the entrance I once again had to venture through the emergency waiting room. "Is there any way I can get a cup of coffee with lots of sugar?" asked the dingy fellow again. Walking into the hospital gift shop, I poured a hot cup of coffee and dumped in about a half pound of sugar. Waiting for the gentleman to arrive, I constantly watched though the large glass window as I walked back to the waiting room and handed the coffee to the man. We knew Jeffrey; he constantly visited the hospital emergency room several times a week with one ailment or another. Just the week before he had a rectal itching problem, so we gave him a four pack of suppositories. Several hours later he returned and told us that his problem had not been relieved. Colorectal Cancers
The scientific community has made significant progress in our molecular understanding of sporadic and hereditary colorectal carcinogenesis and progression. Thie pertains to, e.g., the discovery of (mutated) oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes, microsatellite instabilities, modifications in DNA repair, cellular aging, signaling cascades, genomic, epigenetic, transcriptional, translational, and protein modifications, as well as microbiotic factors and further parameters. Progression and metastasis have been more intensively studied, especially during recent years, leading to an intensified knowledge on molecular protagonists and microenvironmental interactions contributing to invasion, dissemination, and metastasis; still, more concerted efforts need to be made to better understand issues such as metastasis to different sites or the metastatic heterogeneity of single cells. Nevertheless, based on actual discoveries, personalized medicine, together with highly interdisciplinary therapeutic strategies combining advanced levels of surgical techniques, oncology, and radiation in neoadjuvant, adjuvant, or palliative settings, has started to improve the clinical prognosis of individual patients with colorectal cancer. The present Special Issue features articles of excellent international experts with the latest data in the fields mentioned. Risk Prediction and New Prophylaxis Strategies for Thromboembolism in Cancer
Thromboembolism is a compelling challenge in cancer care because of its life-threatening nature as well as its impact on specific treatments. Current guidelines do not generally recommend antithrombotic prophylaxis, except in selected categories of patients at high risk of thrombosis. Accordingly, several clinical decision models have been developed to guide the oncologist in thromboembolic risk assessment and targeted prophylaxis. Low-molecular-weight heparins (LMWH) are currently considered as the standard approach in clinical practice guidelines, but recent randomized controlled trials (RCT) indicate that direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) are effective for the treatment/prophylaxis of cancer-associated thromboembolism. However, many unanswered questions remain on the efficacy and safety of anticoagulants in selected cancer subgroups, and in primary and secondary prevention settings, where anticoagulation needs to be balanced on the risk of bleeding complications. Presently, patient selection remains the main challenge. Improvement in existing VTE risk models or the construction of alternative risk assessment tools are needed in order to ameliorate the risk stratification of cancer patients. This reprint will cover the current clinical evidence supporting the standard of care and emerging treatment/prophylactic options for cancer-associated thromboembolism during both active treatment and simultaneous/palliative care. Tailored approaches based on the use of individualized factors to stratify the thrombotic/bleeding risk in each individual patient are discussed.

"In the twilight of our life, God will not judge us on our earthly possessions and human success, but rather, on how much we have loved" said St. John of God. Along with St. John of God and St. Camillus de Lellis, the two nurses declared patrons of nurses and nurses association by His Holiness Pope Pius XI, this text provides description of the lives of several nurses who have formally been declared saints or on the path to canonization: twenty-eight saints, fifty blesseds, fourteen venerables, three servants of God and seven martyrs not otherwise categorized. Organized by date of birth, except for groups of nurses who were martyred, who are organized by date of martyrdom; the appendices lists memorial dates, country of birth, mission and death; patron saints of nurse; and saint for health conditions and healthcare patron saints. An excerpt from the Code of Canon law describes the Church law regarding veneration of saints and care of relics. Lastly included are excerpts from His Holiness Pope Pius XI's papal address to the International Catholic Committee of Nurses and Medico-Social Assistants (CICIAMS) II and III World Congresses and Pope Pius XII address to Midwives in 1952 and Nursing Staff of Roman Institutions in 1952. Though nursing care was provided by many of the unnamed martyrs who died during the great pestilence in Alexandria Egypt between 249 A.D. and 262 A.D. the first named nurse saint was St. Fabiola who established the first hospital in Rome. Queen St. Radegund, who was also the patron saint of the first council of Catholic nurses established in the United States of America in 1909 in Boston; King St. Elzear and Queen Bl. Delphina provided nursing care. St. Catherine of Siena is a Doctor of the Church and was a mystic and stigmatic. Bl. Hanna Chrzanowska, RN of Poland is the first lay Catholic Registered Nurse to be beatified. Many nurses were physically martyred in the 20th century in Eastern Europe by the atheist, communist Soviets, and in Algeria, Liberia and Somalia by Muslim extremists. There were also many martyrs of charity who died caring for individuals infected with contagious diseases (e.g. novel influenza, hemorrhagic fever, bubonic plague etc.). They provided nursing care without concern for their own welfare caring for each patients as they would the person of Jesus Christ. As St. Giuseppina, Vannini and many of these founders and foundresses instructed their members, "Always see in the sick the image of the suffering Jesus."

A Life of Joy and Accomplishments
Like many others, living a life of substance and quality was a dream of Dorothy's. She grew up in Sheboygan, Wisconsin as the youngest of eight children. Being surrounded by a large, loving family inspired her to have a beautiful family of her own. When she met and married her high school sweetheart, Ronnie Manser, she could see her dreams coming true. Thirteen years later, Ronnie and Dorothy both had good jobs, a new home, and five children ages 2-12. Dorothy described their life together as, "busy and wonderful!" Dorothy worked part-time as a nurse at a local hospital. Ronnie always said, "It isn't for the money, but you never know when you will need your nursing skills." In January of 1970, the unimaginable happened when Ronnie passed away unexpectedly. Dorothy's resiliency shined during this difficult time with the support of her family, her ferocious determination, and her talents in the nursing field. This book is an autobiography by Dorothy Meletta George. In her own words, she takes you through her personal joys, tragedies, challenges, and triumphs. Dorothy describes her day with Rosa Parks and her unforgettable trip to Greece, and she includes some of her best family recipes.
