Impact of Diet Composition on Insulin Resistance
Insulin resistance is a key player in the pathology of cardiometabolic diseases - obesity, hypertension, dyslipidaemia, type 2 diabetes and NAFLD. These diseases are commonly associated with a peripheral insulin resistance, but an important role of insulin is played at brain circuitries that control food behaviour and autonomic activity. Brain insulin resistance is also associated with cognition impairment and Alzheimer Disease and other neurodegenerative diseases. Disruptions in diet composition, e.g. hypercaloric diets, and patterns, as well as nutritional status contribute to the genesis of insulin resistance. In contrast, hypocaloric diets, different feed regimens and some nutrients have beneficial impacts on insulin resistance and disease development. This special issue "Impact of diet composition on insulin resistance" is developed to compile studies that highlight the beneficial or deleterious impact of different nutritional plans on insulin sensitivity and metabolism and that unravel mechanistic links between diet composition and nutritional status and the development of insulin resistance, both periphery and centrally.
EPR Effect-Based Tumor Targeted Nanomedicine
I am honored to undertake the work for Guest Editor for this Special Issue of EPR Effect-Based Tumor Targeted Nanomedicine for the Journal of Personalized Medicine. It has already been 35 years since we published the concept of the EPR effect for the first time. The discovery of the new concept of EPR effect gave an impetus effect of growth momentum in nanomedicine, and numerous works are focused on tumor delivery, although the initial idea was based on vascular permeability in infection-induced inflamed tissue, where we discovered bradykinin in the key mediator of vascular permeability.I know, however, there are pros and cons to EPR effect. Cons stem either from a poor understanding of EPR effect, or somehow a biased view of the EPR effect, or from the tumor models being used, particularly in the clinical settings where vascular blood flow is so frequently obstructed. I hope scientists in the clinic, or basic researchers working on the tumor drug delivery, will join the forum of this Special Issue and express their data and opinions.The scope of this issue includes an in-depth understanding of the EPR effect, and issues associated with tumor microenvironment and also further exploitation of EPR effect in human cancer. In addition, new strategies for enhancement of the EPR effect using nanomedicine will be welcome, which is as important as the EPR effect itself. These papers cover not only cancer therapy, but also imaging techniques using nanofluorescent agents, including photodynamic therapy for inflammation, and boron neutron capture therapy.

This book investigates the history of women's reproductive health in Ghana, arguing that between the 1920s and 1980s, it was largely driven by discourses ofdevelopment and population control rather than a concern for women's health orrights.Between the 1920s and 1980s, the choices that Ghanaian women maderegarding their reproductive health were defined by development policy andpractice. Spanning the colonial and immediate postcolonial periods, this bookdemonstrates that whilst the substance of development discourse shifted overtime, principles of development continued to be used to impact and legitimisereproductive health policy and practices well after independence. The bookexplores Ghana's pluralist health system, the introduction of maternal and childwelfare, the dominance of the Red Cross in Ghana's maternal and child healthlandscape, nationalist pronatalism and global population activism. In order tounderstand how global iterations of development and health policy impactedordinary lives in Ghana, the author uses evidence from multiple 'levels, ' includingprivate papers, national archives and records of international and transnationalorganisations. The conceptualization of dementia has changed dramatically in recent years with the claim that, through early detection and by controlling several risk factors, a prevention of dementia is possible. Entering the emergency room, I noticed Doctor McCall as he ran behind one of the many drawn blue curtains. Several nurses followed close behind. "What's the deal?" I asked the nurse sitting behind the nurse's station. "Car accident victim, I think," she replied, never looking up from the magazine she was reading. I walked over to the curtain and slowly peeked inside. That's bad, I thought, as I saw an older woman laying on an ambulance gurney, her right leg bent backwards beneath her body. "Kiser, you wait out front and watch for Mr. Champney. He is flying in from Atlanta and should be here in about 30 minutes," said the head nurse, as she quickly pointed her finger toward the front of the hospital. Walking toward the entrance I once again had to venture through the emergency waiting room. "Is there any way I can get a cup of coffee with lots of sugar?" asked the dingy fellow again. Walking into the hospital gift shop, I poured a hot cup of coffee and dumped in about a half pound of sugar. Waiting for the gentleman to arrive, I constantly watched though the large glass window as I walked back to the waiting room and handed the coffee to the man. We knew Jeffrey; he constantly visited the hospital emergency room several times a week with one ailment or another. Just the week before he had a rectal itching problem, so we gave him a four pack of suppositories. Several hours later he returned and told us that his problem had not been relieved. Data on the correlation between the quality of one's diet and life expectancy, and the application of calorie restriction regimens, or of micronutrients, antioxidants and functional foods in the diet make nutrition, together with exercise, a natural weapon to combat age-related diseases and improve healthspan.
Nutrition and Athletic Performance
Exercise necessitates increased energy production to match the elevated demand of physical activity, the magnitude of which varies significantly by activity, sport, and/or athletic position. It will be of great value for nursing students at various levels as based on the U.S National data base of nursing Quality Indicators. The aim of the study was to promote nursing management post open heart surgery and the study population was 98 nurses working in intensive cardiac care for at least than six months. They were selected by total coverage method for data collection. Interview and observation checklists were used over six months, the variables were the procedures which should be done for the patient after open heart surgery. The author has emphasized the importance of training in this part of surgery and how it was the most influential factor in nurses' performance as they will be able to provide an excellent service if they are well trained.
