The Arabic Sentence
The Arabic Sentence book is an educational Arabic grammar learning book for students. The Arabic Sentence Book uses English grammar to learn the basic rules of Arabic grammar. This book explores the foundation of grammar and begins at an elementary level. It contains theoretical rules with practical exercises and tasks to ease the learning of Arabic for students. The Arabic Sentence book contains a set colour coded technique to learning the correct grammatical formation of sentences. This book looks in detail at nouns, prepositions, pronouns and many more basic concepts of grammar. The book really solidifies the basics of grammar and uses varied forms of tasks to implement the grammatical function in English and in Arabic. Arabic is a much sort after language and thousands of students each year decide to embark on the journey of learning this language. With this book they can start at a foundational level and build up their confidence in mastering the core of compiling short, yet very effective sentences. The book uses many new ways of approaching the Arabic language for instance by using tree diagrams for sentences also known as sentence parsing. There are tables and examples for each sentence. The book has a dedicated organisation by repeating the previous topics in each new topic, thus ensuring a strong foundation to the language and no need for homework, or long hours of self-studying.The book uses a specific set of Arabic vocabulary ensuring that a student will see the same word being repeated many times. Thus enabling them to learn the word without memorising thousands of words. An example of the exercises and tasks is already done to help students in learning and encourages them to learn from examples. The Arabic Sentence book focuses each chapter on the English grammar rules and has specific exercises for them. There is also review sheets to track students' progress and practice exams that they can do to see how well they have learnt the language. This book would benefit educational sectors in which a foreign language is taught as well as schools and private education. It can be also used for self-studying for new users to the Arabic language, or those who have previously learnt the language. The Arabic Sentence book came about from teaching secondary school students and seeing how these students became more familiar to the language with such ease. These students were of mixed abilities, yet they all managed to learn the foundations of Arabic grammar. When the students were struggling on a specific part of Arabic, it gave me the ability to produce more creative exercises in order for them to fully understand. All of this hard work and culmination of years have been brought together in this one book.As the author of the book, I have had my own personal battle with grasping the Arabic language and I only appreciated the language once I began teaching it to young minded students. I found it difficult to find a book that explained the Arabic language in a way that I could understand. I memorised the rules but found it hard to practically implement them, especially if you do not live in an Arabic speaking country. When teaching this language to youngsters, I did not want to teach them rules. I created methods and examples from the English language and identified resembling features that can be used in both languages. Students enjoyed the lessons and were eager to finish the worksheets. Teaching Arabic for more than five years allowed me to think of different ways of approaching the language and these methods are compiled with in this book. This book is unique as it contains different methods of learning and it has been tried and tested on young individuals. If it can work on them it can work on all!
Phonological and Lexical Innovation of Arabic Loanwords
Phonological and Lexical Innovation of Arabic Loanwords is designed to maintain second and third language learners' difficulties at all levels. It is basically expected to be beneficial for teachers, who are teaching in these areas, in which English is primarily taught as a second or third language. The author's approach is mainly to contextualize theories beginning with a brief history of the targeted languages and supported that by providing fundamental corpus to exemplify claims. The book is divided into two phases. The first section covers phonological changes of Arabic loanwords in Beja Language with innovations in word pattern and phonemes. The second section concludes with rationales behind types of borrowing lexis from other languages as well as semantic changes that occur in overall meanings of each borrowed or loaned term. The books state recommendations to text book designers.

A lucid doorway into classical Arabic, shaped by nineteenth-century rigour. Clear steps for first readers. Frederic Du Pre Thornton's Elementary Arabic; First Reading Book stands as an accessible arabic language textbook and a practical beginner arabic reader from the era of nineteenth century language study. Focused on short readings with lucid grammatical annotation, it lays out arabic grammar basics with plain explanations that suit both guided study and independent practice, offering a direct route into classical arabic instruction without unnecessary flourish. Useful to learners seeking a self-study arabic guide as much as to instructors looking for period-accurate examples. Teachers and independent learners alike value its careful pace and emphasis on fundamentals; the text privileges readable passages and focused grammatical cues over theory. As a historical language textbook it illuminates nineteenth-century teaching priorities and remains a reliable academic language resource while functioning as a compact statement of elementary language education. Taken together, the volume performs two complementary roles: a hands-on primer for learning to read classical prose, and a small record of pedagogical method. Librarians, tutors and independent students consult it for its disciplined pacing and its clear link between reading and explanation, and modern learners will find its economy of expression refreshing alongside contemporary materials. It appeals to casual readers and classic-literature collectors alike: students and polyglots will find pragmatic clarity, while lovers of vintage language learning and devotees of du pre thornton works will prize the book's provenance and restraint. A welcome addition to any language learning collection, it bridges the archival and the practical, offering insight into how classical arabic instruction was presented before modern standardisation. Scholars and teachers will find it instructive; casual learners will enjoy its sober, steady voice. Its spare language and disciplined examples make it approachable without sacrificing scholarly intent. Out of print for decades and now republished by Alpha Editions. Restored for today's and future generations. More than a reprint - a collector's item and a cultural treasure.

Kanji Clues
Kanji Clues: A Mnemonic Approach to Mastering Japanese Characters introduces a novel approach to character acquisition that combines the ancient practice of memory enhancement with a modern appreciation for active learning. By placing phonology at the center of the reading-writing process, the learner establishes an essential link between sound and meaning before addressing each character's orthography, much in the way native speakers do. Another prominent feature of these volumes is that the lessons are organized thematically according to components in order to enhance their retention and to distinguish between similar looking kanji. As a result, character order is determined by the frequency of their primary elements or components. Once a character is learned, it retains the same meaning when it appears as an element in other characters. There is thus an internal recycling of components and characters throughout the course that serves as an additional aid to their retrieval. Proceeding from components and characters, each lesson then introduces ten new compounds, half of which appear in sentences. Here again, the learner actively forges meaningful links by responding to the clues provided. Indeed, the entire learning sequence is based upon mnemonic principles, such as attention, association, and elaboration, which, when employed together, comprise a memory-enhancing network that facilitates accurate recall and retention. Designed for students who wish to master the Japanese reading/writing system, each volume is comprised of a year's worth of lessons, which can be used alongside a primary textbook, as well as for self-study, reference, or review. Upon completion of the course, the learner will have not only mastered all the 2,136 everyday use characters, but also be familiar with more than 1,200 kanji compounds and the most common sentence patterns in the Japanese language, thereby providing a deep understanding of the inner workings of the language and the tools to decipher new words. Volume 2 is an ideal supplementary resource for students throughout their second year of Japanese-language study.

Over the course of the book Tangseng and his companions face the 81 tribulations that Tangseng had to endure to attain Buddhahood. The first 5 books in the Journey to the West series have used a total of about 600 different Chinese words, but only 590 are used in this book. Latin and Arabic
As linguistic systems comprising a large variety of written and oral registers including derivate "languages" and "dialects," Latin and Arabic have been of paramount importance for the history of the Euromediterranean since Antiquity. Moreover, due to their long-term function as languages of administration, intellectual activity, and religion, they are often regarded as cultural markers of Europe and the (Arabic-)Islamic sphere respectively. This volume explores the many dimensions and ramifications of Latin-Arabic entanglement both from macro-historical as well as from micro-historical perspectives. Visions of history marked by the binary opposition of "Islam" and "the West" tend to ignore these important facets of Euromediterranean entanglement, as do historical studies that explain complex transcultural processes without giving attention to their linguistic dimension. Modeling the Pāṇinian System of Sanskrit Grammar
The present work is a study of the Aṣṭādhyāyī of Pāṇini from a new perspective. It attempts to explore the Pāṇinian system of Sanskrit grammar from a formal point of view and investigate the possibilities of representing it in a logical, explicit and consistent manner. It puts forward an appropriate framework for such a representation. Differing from the formulation of Aṣṭādhyāyī, which is composed in an artificial yet natural language and is meant to be employed by individuals who are acquainted both with the Sanskrit language and the techniques of grammar, the present rendering aims for a non-verbal representation in terms of mathematical categories and logical relations which can be implemented in an algorithmic manner. The formal framework suggested in this work would facilitate adequate tools for postulating and evaluating hypotheses about the grammatical system. Moreover, it would furnish the basis for a computer implementation of the grammar. Both these aspects are objects of enquiry in the field of theoretical studies on Pāṇini as well as the emerging discipline of Sanskrit computational linguistics. This book takes on the ground-work in these areas. This work was published by Saint Philip Street Press pursuant to a Creative Commons license permitting commercial use. Nominal Arguments and Language Variation
Nominal Arguments in Language Variation investigates nominal arguments in classifier languages, refuting the long-held claim that classifier languages do not have overt article determiners. Li Julie Jiang brings the typologically unique Nuosu Yi, a classifier language that has an overt definite determiner (D), to the forefront of the theoretical investigation. By comparing nominal arguments in Nuosu Yi to those in Mandarin, a well-studied classifier language that has no overt evidence of an article determiner, Jiang provides new accounts of variation among classifier languages and extends the parameters to argument formation in general. In addition to paying particular attention to these two classifier languages, the discussion of nominal arguments also covers a wider range of classifier languages and number marking languages from Romance, Germanic, and Slavic to Hindi. Using a broad cross-linguistic perspective and detailed empirical analysis, Nominal Arguments in Language Variation is an important contribution to research on classifier languages and the fields of theoretical syntax, semantics, language variation, and linguistic typology.
Arabic-English Dictionary
"This Dictionary of Modern Written Arabic (fourth edition) has been enlarged and amended with 13,000 new entries. It is the only authorized paperback edition of the famous Hans Wehr Arabic-English Dictionary, edited by J. Milton Cowan. This new edition has thousands of new entries include numerous additions and corrections to the material and presents the results in a single handsome volume. The author provides a useful introduction in which he discusses, clearly and precisely, the present state of the Arabic language. He points out the situations in which written and spoken varieties of Arabic are used, and remarks on the forces that influenced the development of the lexicon of Modern Arabic. He discusses both the purist movement with its normative tradition, and what might be called the laissez-faire actual usage of writers and journalists under the influence of Western modes of expression, of their everyday colloquial, or both. He then moves on to the problem of local terminology, especially for public institutions, offices, administrative matters, titles, and foods. Although such terms are included for most of the Arab countries, the list is not complete, as indeed the author recognizes (viii); readers of Arabic material characterized by a distinct regional coloring are advised to refer to dialect dictionaries and glossaries."
