The North Germanic Morphosyntax of Modern English
This book argues that Middle English - and hence Modern English - is a direct descendent of Anglo Norse, the language of Viking settlers who invaded and ruled the north and east of England (the so-called Danelaw) for about 200 years preceding the Norman conquest. The authors challenge the widely accepted assumption that Middle English descends from Anglo-Saxon. Presenting over 20 arguments in morphology and syntax, they show that the patterns found in standard history of English sources derive from the North Germanic Scandinavian languages. The book shows that, while Danes ruled all England (1013-1066), their Anglo-Norse, lexically but not grammatically close to Anglo-Saxon, superseded the latter throughout England. Sentential word order, modern phrasal verbs, stranded prepositions, and standard regular noun plurals, phonetic z, and split infinitives became Norse hallmarks that persist to this day, while numerous indications of West Germanic (German-style) grammar disappeared entirely. As Anglo-Norse became Middle English, it absorbed much vocabulary from the Anglo-Saxons. This book suggests that in the Middle English German-sourced vocabulary, eliminating borrowed Romance, purely Anglo-Saxon vocabulary may have been double that of purely Norse origin. However, language history is not determined by its vocabulary; what counts is rather a language's syntax, and the authors posit that this is what makes Modern English Scandinavian. Language change for the worse
Many theories hold that language change, at least on a local level, is driven by a need for improvement. Rhetoric in Debt
In recent years, household indebtedness in the United States reached its highest levels in history. From mortgages to student loans, from credit card bills to US deficit spending, debt is widespread and increasing.Drawing on scholarship from economics, accounting, and critical rhetoric and social theory, Kellie Sharp-Hoskins critiques debt not as an economic indicator or a tool of finance but as a cultural system. The Elite language as a Mother Tongue in a Multilingual Environment
In the context of Congolese multilingualism, this research was conducted among teenagers and adult children at Plateau des Residents des professeurs. The findings of the survey indicate that French is frequently used by individuals in almost every situation, making it a dominant language at home and school. The attitudes towards other national languages and foreign languages, particularly English, are positive based on the data presented. The study aimed to confirm or refute the hypotheses outlined in previous chapters. The results show that English is considered the most beautiful language by 48.8% of respondents, the easiest language by 43.3%, and the most useful language by 46.6%. French is perceived as the most polite language by 64.4% of respondents. While French remains the predominant language, English holds the second position in the preferences of the participants. The research findings, despite being based on a small sample size, are statistically significant. The teenagers and adult children reside at Plateau des Residents, a residential area in Kinshasa's Lemba township, which is one of the main cities in the DRC with a diverse linguistic landscape.

Connected Parenting
Changing practices and perceptions of parenthood and family life have long been the subject of intense public, political and academic attention. Recent years have seen growing interest in the role digital media and technologies can play in these shifts, yet this topic has been under-explored from a discourse analytical perspective. In response, this book's investigation of everyday parenting, family practices and digital media offers a new and innovative exploration of the relationship between parenting, family practices, and digitally mediated connection. This investigation is based on extensive digital and interview data from research with nine UK-based single and/or lesbian, gay or bisexual parents who brought children into their lives in non-traditional ways, for example through donor conception, surrogacy or adoption. Through a novel approach that combines constructivist grounded theory with mediated discourse analysis, this book examines connected family lives and practices in a way that transcends the limiting social, biological and legal structures that still dominate concepts of family in contemporary society.

Nominalization in Western Austronesian
This book explores nominalization processes in Totoli (Sulawesi, Indonesia) within the context of western Austronesian symmetrical voice languages. The main focus is on lexical nominalizations, especially on action nominal constructions derived with pV-/pVN-/pVg- and kV-. By means of corpus data, the book provides a characterization of the form and the functions of these constructions and their hybrid nominal and verbal nature. It then investigates the role of nominalization (and subordination) in information packaging using the concept of at-issueness. Finally, it provides a systematic survey of nominalization constructions in 67 western Austronesian symmetrical voice languages.

One of the talented poets of the 20th century, Orzu Urganji, left an indelible mark on Uzbek literature with his creative legacy. His lyrical legacy, hidden in the depths of the years, remained unexplored and almost forgotten. Due to this, after gaining independence, along with other poets, Urganji's lyrics also required their discovery. Over the past years, relatively few attempts have been made to bring his legacy to the public. In this way, the dismantling of the Oedipus continues to be pertinent so that we can think beyond the structuring of the heterosexual bourgeois family as a regulatory matrix of subjectivities.
