The Books of a New Nation
United States Government publications are books collectors have not sought, bibliographers have not analyzed, historians have rarely considered. But publication is a necessary part of law-making and law-enforcing, and as the historian J. H. Powell traces national printing through its first forty years (until the British fired the capital in 1814) these dry-as-dust public documents become vivid, exciting elements in the lively story of how a new nation was built. In this volume collectors will find many "firsts" in public documents, bibliographers will discover unknown chapters in the history of printing in America, and historians will be challenged by the new points of view government publications suggest for interpreting national history. Lecture I describes the printing of the Continental Congress before Independence, 1774-1176. Translations of Greek Tragedy in the Work of Ezra Pound
Turning the tables on the misconception that Ezra Pound knew little Greek, this volume looks at his work translating Greek tragedy and considers how influential this was for his later writing. Pound's work as a translator has had an enormous impact on the theory and practice of translation, and continues to be a source of heated debate. While scholars have assessed his translations from Chinese, Latin, and even Proven癟al, his work on Greek tragedy remains understudied. Pound's versions of Greek tragedy (of Aeschylus' Agamemnon, and of Sophocles' Elektra and Women of Trachis) have received scant attention, as it has been commonly assumed that Pound knew little of the language. Liebregts shows that the poet's knowledge of Greek was much more comprehensive than is generally assumed, and that his renderings were based on a careful reading of the source texts. He identifies the works Pound used as the basis for his translations, and contextualises his versions with regard to his biography and output, particularly The Cantos. A wealth of understudied source material is analysed, such as Pound's personal annotations in his Loeb edition of Sophocles, his unpublished correspondence with classical scholars such as F. R. Earp and Rudd Fleming, as well as manuscript versions and other as-yet-unpublished drafts and texts which illuminate his working methodology.

Writing in Small Groups the 4color Way lays out how to build a Cooperative Inquiry group to create a super support group of writers. Conceived by pioneers in the field of participatory research, Cooperative Inquiry is a system whereby people interested in learning about a topic get together and form a question about the topic. Cognitive research phraseology
There is still no clear boundary between free phrases and phraseological units. There are countless intermediate cases between the extremes of full motivation and the variety of word components and the lack of motivation combined with the full stability of lexical components and grammatical structure. This paper offers a cognitive perspective on considering the phraseomatic meaning. The aim of this paper is to reconstruct the conceptual organization of phraseomatic meaning on the example of English verb-name phraseomatic word combinations. In turn, the identification of the conceptual organization is a stage in determining the functional and cognitive potential of the language units under consideration. According to onomasiological interpretation of the definitions of phraseomatic word combinations, verb units identify the concept, and other words and labels identify the features of this concept. The analysis carried out in this monograph shows that the three types of conceptual features participate differently in forming the structure of English verb-name phraseomatic word combinations.

In the first volume of this book, we offer students and users of Berber a set of theoretical courses that summarize the general state of the various lexicographical and terminographical productions of Berber in general and of the Kabyle language in particular. In the second volume, we propose a series of exercises with corrections to better understand these courses. It will serve as a teaching aid for undergraduate and graduate students.These courses and exercises made available to students have as objectives to: Allow the student to learn about lexicography in general and Berber lexicography (bilingual) in particular, to know the whole of the Berber lexicographical production, to make the student aware of the importance, even the need to use the dictionary as a working tool and a means of self-improvement of the language, to bring the student to read a dictionary article correctly in order to make proper use of it and to allow the student to check the spelling of a word or its correct use from a morphosyntactic point of view.

This book investigates major linguistic transformations in the translation of children's literature, focusing on the English-language translations of Janusz Korczak, a Polish-Jewish children's writer known for his innovative pedagogical methods as the head of a Warsaw orphanage for Jewish children in pre-war Poland. The author outlines fourteen tendencies in translated children's literature, including mitigation, simplification, stylization, hyperbolization, cultural assimilation and fairytalization, in order to analyse various translations of King Matt the First, Big Business Billy and Kaytek the Wizard. The author then addresses the translators' treatment of racial issues based on the socio-cultural context. Reading Computer-Generated Texts
Natural language generation (NLG) is the process wherein computers produce output in readable human languages. Such output takes many forms, including news articles, sports reports, prose fiction, and poetry. These computer-generated texts are often indistinguishable from human-written texts, and they are increasingly prevalent. NLG is here, and it is everywhere. However, readers are often unaware that what they are reading has been computer-generated. This Element considers how NLG conforms to and confronts traditional understandings of authorship and what it means to be a reader. It argues that conventional conceptions of authorship, as well as of reader responsibility, change in instances of NLG. What is the social value of a computer-generated text? What does NLG mean for modern writing, publishing, and reading practices? Can an NLG system be considered an author? This Element explores such question, while presenting a theoretical basis for future studies.
Transfer Thinking in Translation Studies
Transfer processes cover the most diverse phenomena of circulation, transformation and reinterpretation of cultural goods across space and time, and are among the driving forces in opening up the field of translation studies. Transfer processes cross linguistic and cultural boundaries and cannot be reduced to simple movements from a source to a target (culture or text).
