The present publication attempts to document floristic diversity of medicinal plants from Indian heritage. Onion cultivation
The aim of this work was to describe aspects related to onion cultivation through bibliographical research in books, magazines, articles and theses, as well as the implementation of experiments in the area of soil fertility, management and nutrition of the onion crop. During the 2011/2012 harvest, different experiments were set up at EPAGRI - Ituporanga-SC Experimental Station (EEITU) to evaluate the response to phosphate, potassium, organic and organo-mineral fertilization, with the aim of obtaining regional fertilization and fertilizer management recommendations. To this end, two experiments were carried out with increasing doses of phosphorus (0, 50, 100, 200, 400 and 800 kg ha-1 ), in soil with different levels of P. One experiment was for potassium (0, 50, 100, 200, 400 and 800 kg ha-1 ); one of Potassium (0, 50, 100, 200, 400 and 800 kg ha-1) and an experiment with organo-mineral fertilization (0, 4500, 9000, 18000 kg ha-1 of poultry manure, mineral fertilization (NPK) 100, 120, 90 kg ha-1 respectively, and poultry manure + mineral fertilization (NPK) in addition to organic fertilization. The results were satisfactory and will be presented in the course of the work.

Kasuri Methi
Kasuri Methi (Trigonella Corniculata L.) is one of the important seed spices crop, slightly differ than regular methi (Trigonella foenum - graecium L.) mostly cultivated for its significant flavor and other medicinal properties in its leaves. It is mostly cultivated in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh in India. The reason identified for less area under cultivation of Kasuri methi in state like Maharashtra, distribution chain from producer to consumer through marketing were taken into consideration. In this regards, genesis for the present study was to give the production technology of seed production of kasuri methi to the farmers of the region. We are sure that, this publication shall prove highly useful to various stake holders, such as field functionaries, growers, students and extension workers and who are having interest in (grown) kasuri methi.
Pests of Fruit Crops in Kashmir
On the onset the book provides overview on the main horticultural fruit crops of the Kashmir region (India) with details on production, productivity across various districts of the region and a comparison with the global standards. Pest spectrum of these major crops is then discussed as one of their major constraints on production; similar pest associations can also be found throughout the temperate region of India, and some of these pests even pose serious problems on fruit crops worldwide. Major pest species are illustrated, described and detailed for their economic losses, nature of damage, seasonality and management strategies. Illustrations provided in the book will serve as an essential reference source for professionals, extension workers, consultants, scientists, students, fruit growers and private gardeners. Some of the most prevalent natural enemies are also detailed in order to promote their effective usage in any future biological control program. Revision of the Genus Astragalus L (Leguminosae Papilionoideae) in India
This book presents a comprehensive taxonomic account of the most difficult and largest genus of angiosperm Astragalus of the family Leguminosae in India. Astragalus is chiefly distributed in the cold desert regions of the Himalaya. This is the first revisionary study on the genus in independent India. It is the outcome of extensive field survey and examination of large number of herbarium specimens housed at various herbaria. The present work includes 79 species of Astragalus found in the present political boundary of India. The detail taxonomic account such as nomenclature, description, phenology, habitat, distribution, list of specimens examined etc. have been provided for each species. In addition, taxonomic notes on nomenclature, variation pattern, distribution etc. have also been given wherever found necessary. Large numbers of colour and black and white photographs of the habit of the plants provided in the book further enhanced the quality of the work. All species have been grouped into 28 sections following recent classification. Each section has been briefly characterized and taxonomic keys to the sections and species within the sections have been provided for quick identification. A recently segregated genus from Astragalus, Phyllolobium with four species has also been dealt separately at the end of work for the sake of convenience as people may search these species here due to their long placement in Astragalus. This book would be quite useful for the students of botany, molecular taxonomy, palynology, anatomy etc. to take up the genus for further studies to resolve its complex taxonomy and phylogeny. Some of the species of Astragalus are the source of the commercial gum tragacanth and they are highly medicinal. Astragalus malacophyllus is a well known drug as 'Rudanti' or 'Rudravanti' used for tuberculosis, skin diseases, coughs and blood purifier in India. Astragalus root is also a well known drug in traditional Chinese medicine since ancient time and large numbers of products have been developed on it. Hence, this book will also serve as reference for those who are involved in drug discovery research.

Citrus
The search for new phytosanitary products of natural origin presenting less danger to human health and the environment has become a necessity. Essential oils (EO), produced by certain plants with antimicrobial properties, can contribute to the biological control of citrus fruit rot during storage. We isolated and identified six pathogenic bacteria from preserved citrus fruit: E. coli, S. aureus, S. thyphi, S. sonnei, B. cereus, P. aeruginosa and a fungal strain Trichosporon spp, followed by the antibacterial and antifungal activity of eight essential oils: Thymus vulgaris, Salvia officinalis, Allium sativum, Myrtus communis L, Rosmarinus officinalis, piper nigrum, Carum carvi L and Syzygium aromaticum was tested by direct contact techniques (the aromatogram) to show strong efficacy against all the strains tested, as thyme EO possesses the greatest antifungal power among the oils, with a zone of inhibition diameter of 48mm and MIC 0. 03(%v/v).
YIELD AND ANTIOXIDANT DYNAMICS IN BROCCOLI (B. oleracea var. italica)
The field experiments were conducted to study yield and antioxidant dynamics in broccoli (Brassica oleracea var. italica) under different nutrient management regimes which consist of Vermicompost (2t ha-1), FYM (5t ha-1), NPK (80:100:100 Kg ha-1), 50% NPK, 50% Vermicompost + FYM, 100% K, Azotobacter and Phosphate Solubilizing Bacteria. Observations were recorded on the different aspects of the plant like growth and development, yield and phytochemicals. Combined application of 50% NPK + 50% Vermicompost + FYM produced the highest broccoli yield (174.45 q ha-1). The number of leaves was not significantly affected by the application of different sources of nutrients. Head weight and chlorophyll content were higher when a combination of organic and inorganic fertilizers was added. Taproot length was recorded maximum in the treatment combination of organic, inorganic fertilizers and biofertilizers. The highest ascorbic acid, β-carotene and total phenol content of the head were observed in the treatment combination of organic, inorganic fertilizers and biofertilizers.

Biology and pollination power of stingless bees
Stingless bees can play an important role in pollinating radish plants. The bees were found to be attracted to a solution of jaggery, sugar, or sugarcane juice. The study also found that the biology of stingless bees consists of egg, larval, and pupal phases that take an average of 6.3, 15.1, and 18.7 days, respectively.Overall, the study suggests that stingless bees could used as a sustainable and effective way to pollinate plants. This could be the benefit to farmers who are looking for ways to increase their yields.

Stingless bees, T. laeviceps have ability to visit a wide range of flower. In present study 34 different plant species were visited by stingless bees.

First emerging in 1819 with Charlotte de la Tour's Le langage des fleurs, this coded "language" was used widely throughout the nineteenth century in both England and America and today is synonymous with Victorian tradition and culture.Flower meanings were taken from literature, mythology, religion, medieval legend, and even the shapes of the blooms themselves. Often, florists would invent symbolism to accompany new additions to their inventory, and occasionally, flowers had different meanings depending on the location and time. Young women of high society in this era embraced the practice, sending bouquets as tokens of love or warning, wearing flowers in their hair or tucked into their gowns, and celebrating all things floral. Many of themcreated small arrangements of flowers, called tussie-mussies or nosegays, by combining a few blooms in a small bouquet. Worn or carried as accessories, these coded messages of affection, desire, or sorrow allowed Victorians to show their true feelings in an enigmatic and alluring display.As the era came to an end and the First World War began, the language of flowers faded in popularity. Traces of the tradition remain, however. We still use roses to convey love at weddings and on Valentine's Day, lilies for peace, and mums for condolences. The elegance and beauty of flowers have not dwindled-only our knowledge of their coded meanings. I hope this book, apart from offering a view into the history of floriography, will encourage readers to look at flowers and herbs in a new way, perhaps assigning theirown meanings to the blooms that inspire them most.
New plant nitrogen measurements for fertilizer recommendations
The main objective of the book is to find tools to support the fertilizer recommendation, in order to obtain a quality crop and to reduce the fertilizer content to be applied with the consequent reduction of costs and, of course, always taking into account the respect for the environment. The first is based on the analysis of nitrogen balances, which is the most important nutrient in cauliflower cultivation, using different doses of nitrogen fertilizer to observe the behavior of the crop. The other part of the book, in which different mathematical models have been obtained, refers to the use of sensors. In this case they are reflectance sensors, which act as a "communication channel" with the plants, allowing us to understand in a non-invasive way what is happening inside them. The results obtained in this study highlight, once again, the importance of agronomic work through the study of the soil-plant system and the incorporation of new technologies in agriculture.
