This book extrapolates many of the concepts that are well defined for discrete-time deterministic sliding-mode control for use with discrete-time stochastic systems. It details sliding-function designs for various categories of linear time-invariant systems and its application for control. The resulting sliding-mode control addresses robustness issues and the functional-observer approach reduces the observer order substantially. Sliding-mode control (SMC) is designed for discrete-time stochastic systems, extended so that states lie within a specified band, and able to deal with incomplete information. Functional-observer-based SMC is designed for various clauses of stochastic systems: discrete-time; discrete-time with delay; state time-delayed; and those with parametric uncertainty. Stability considerations arising because of parametric uncertainty are taken into account and, where necessary, the effects of unmatched uncertainties mitigated. The equilibrium is implemented by applying both Pontryagin's minimum principle and dynamic programming. The book also analyzes the discrete-time version for all the above materials as well since the discrete-time optimal control problems are very popular in many fields.

Performance of Cooperative Spectrum Sensing in Cognitive Radio Networks

Doctoral Thesis / Dissertation from the year 2020 in the subject Engineering - Communication Technology, grade: A, language: English, abstract: Cooperative spectrum sensing technique is used to maximize the utilization of unused licensed spectrum. As the cooperation among the secondary users increases the detection performance increases, which increases the average channel throughput and energy efficiency but it depends on the number of cooperative secondary users, fusion rules, channel conditions and detection threshold. In this thesis average channel throughput, energy consumption and energy efficiency are estimated for variable number of secondary users and detection thresholds using hard fusion rules i.e. AND, OR and MAJORITY fusion rules. From the results it has been observed that the performance of AND fusion rule is better at low detection thresholds and for less number of secondary users. The performance of OR fusion rule is better at high detection thresholds and for large number of secondary users. The performance of MAJORITY fusion rule follows the performance of AND fusion rule at low detection thresholds and it follows the performance of OR fusion rule at high detection thresholds. However as the number of cooperative secondary users increases the energy required for spectrum sensing and reporting sensing results to the fusion center increases, which increases the energy consumption and reduces the energy efficiency. Therefore energy efficiency can be improved by maximizing the average channel throughput or by minimizing the energy consumption. To minimize the energy consumption in cooperative spectrum sensing, optimization technique has been proposed in this thesis and it is used for further improvement of energy efficiency. This book provides a comprehensive overview of signal filtering, including an introduction, definitions of the terms and algorithms for numerical calculation of the properties of the transfer function in frequency and time domains. All the chapters discuss the theoretical background and explain the underlying algorithms including the iterative numerical procedures necessary to obtain the solutions. It starts by considering polynomial filters, offering a broad range of solutions and introducing critical monotonic passband amplitude characteristics (CMAC). It also describes modifications to the classical Chebyshev and elliptic filters to overcome their limitations. In the context linear phase low-pass prototypes, it presents filters approximating constant group delay in the equi-ripple manner for the first time. Further, it discusses new procedures to improve the selectivity of all polynomial filters by introducing transmission zeros, such as filters with multiple transmission zeros on the omega axis, as well as phase correction of selective filters for both low-pass and band-pass filters. Other topics explored include linear phase all-pass (exhibiting low-pass group delay approximation) filters; all-pass filters (exhibiting band-pass group delay approximation) with linear and parabolic phase synthesized directly as band-pass; high-pass, and band-stop amplitude characteristic frequency transformations to produce band-pass; and direct synthesis of linear and parabolic phase selective band-pass filters synthesized directly as band-pass. Lastly, for system (physical) synthesis, the book describes the algorithms and procedures for the following: cascade passive LC; active cascade RC; active parallel RC (for the first time); active parallel SC; Gm-C based on LC prototypes; and parallel IIR based on bilinear transformation of analog prototypes. Every algorithm, be it in transfer function synthesis or in system synthesis, is accompanied by a proper nontrivial comprehensive example produced by the RM software.

Indoor Scene Recognition by 3-D Object Search

This book focuses on enabling mobile robots to recognize scenes in indoor environments, in order to allow them to determine which actions are appropriate at which points in time. In concrete terms, future robots will have to solve the classification problem represented by scene recognition sufficiently well for them to act independently in human-centered environments. To achieve accurate yet versatile indoor scene recognition, the book presents a hierarchical data structure for scenes - the Implicit Shape Model trees. Further, it also provides training and recognition algorithms for these trees. In general, entire indoor scenes cannot be perceived from a single point of view. To address this problem the authors introduce Active Scene Recognition (ASR), a concept that embeds canonical scene recognition in a decision-making system that selects camera views for a mobile robot to drive to so that it can find objects not yet localized. The authors formalize the automatic selection of camera views as a Next-Best-View (NBV) problem to which they contribute an algorithmic solution, which focuses on realistic problem modeling while maintaining its computational efficiency. Lastly, the book introduces a method for predicting the poses of objects to be searched, establishing the otherwise missing link between scene recognition and NBV estimation.
