Salp swarm algorithm simulates the behaviour of salps in the salp chain during navigating and foraging in oceans. Salp swarm optimizer is inspired by salps and recently proposed metaheuristics search algorithm is based on ocean Salps. The salps form a chain (salp chain) for achieving precise locomotion by using coordinate changes. In the proposed research, a hybrid variant of salp swarm algorithm has been developed using a simulated annealing algorithm and named as SSA-SA. The proposed algorithm has been tested for various unimodal, multimodal and fixed-dimensions problems and corresponding results are compared with classical salp swarm optimizer. Experimentally, it has been observed that the proposed hybrid optimizer perform much better than other recently proposed algorithms and has been applied to solve power system optimization problems including multi-objective scheduling and dispatch problem of the realistic power system.

Investigation on Sige Selective Epitaxy for Source and Drain Engineering in 22 NM CMOS Technology Node and Beyond
This thesis presents the SiGe source and drain (S/D) technology in the context of advanced CMOS, and addresses both device processing and epitaxy modelling. As the CMOS technology roadmap calls for continuously downscaling traditional transistor structures, controlling the parasitic effects of transistors, e.g. short channel effect, parasitic resistances and capacitances is becoming increasingly difficult. The emergence of these problems sparked a technological revolution, where a transition from planar to three-dimensional (3D) transistor design occurred in the 22nm technology node. The selective epitaxial growth (SEG) method has been used to deposit SiGe as stressor material in S/D regions to induce uniaxial strain in the channel region. The thesis investigates issues of process integration in IC production and concentrates on the key parameters of high-quality SiGe selective epitaxial growth, with a special focus on its pattern dependency behavior and on key integration issues in both 2D and 3D transistor structures, the goal being to improve future applications of SiGe SEG in advanced CMOS.

The refrigeration industry has contributed a lot to the global ozone depletion and global warming. To reduce the environmental impact by the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration industry - both commercial and domestic - there is an urgent need to look for solutions that are both ozone friendly and CO2 friendly (greenhouse effect friendly). Eradicating the damage to the environment has encouraged the industrial and commercial refrigeration industry to investigate refrigerant alternatives that reduce the environmental impact although a good transition to them will also depend on the training that technicians acquire, as well as the understanding of the current and future benefits for the companies and the end users. This thesis aims at such a system which is both above mentioned. Once such a system is designed, it is of the utmost importance to test it and compare it with the systems that are being used currently to assess the benefits of using such system. Foundations of Average-Cost Nonhomogeneous Controlled Markov Chains
This Springer brief addresses the challenges encountered in the study of the optimization of time-nonhomogeneous Markov chains. It develops new insights and new methodologies for systems in which concepts such as stationarity, ergodicity, periodicity and connectivity do not apply. This brief introduces the novel concept of confluencity and applies a relative optimization approach. It develops a comprehensive theory for optimization of the long-run average of time-nonhomogeneous Markov chains. The book shows that confluencity is the most fundamental concept in optimization, and that relative optimization is more suitable for treating the systems under consideration than standard ideas of dynamic programming. Using confluencity and relative optimization, the author classifies states as confluent or branching and shows how the under-selectivity issue of the long-run average can be easily addressed, multi-class optimization implemented, and Nth biases and Blackwell optimality conditions derived. These results are presented in a book for the first time and so may enhance the understanding of optimization and motivate new research ideas in the area.

The LabVIEW software used to control the Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) so that measurement process can be automated faster. This project is about a measurement system that provided higher efficiency, diversity and multiple functionality. This project included fundamental connection between Computer and VNA via the Universal Serial Bus (USB) and Laboratory Virtual Instrument Engineering Workbench (LabVIEW) software. In addition, the network configuration Virtual Instrument (VI), data acquisition VI, and automation user interface also included. The purpose of VNA controller is to reduce the time duration taken when a user taking measurement of any Device Under Test (DUT). The LabVIEW VI is designed through a series of developed program simulation by applying LabVIEW Plug and Play - Agilent ENA series control palette. In short, VNA controller has the functions that can configure the VNA's bandwidth, center frequencies, frequencies span, and display the graphs generated. Extraction of Water from Air Using Solar Technology
A semi-open atmospheric water harvesting device using atmospheric water vapour processing technology was designed and built. The processor is a device which extract water molecules from the atmosphere, ultimately causing a phase change from vapour to liquid. This is done by concentrating air, containing water vapour through a solid desiccant. Then heating the desiccant to remove the air and allow it to condense and then collect the condensate. The research focuses on the development of a relationship for the amount of silica gel to the amount of water produced to determine the sufficient amount required for the specific application. This relationship was found to be Mw = 1.0776Ms - 0.4752, with a solar panel efficiency of 10.7%. The recorded values collected were then used to calculate the amount of water produced and were compared to the actual amount of water collected. The study concentrates on the extracting potable water from air especially with respect to the remote/rural arid places with deficit of natural fresh water and electricity supply. Solar energy as a power supply were focused on with discussing their strengths and limitations.
Random Processes with Applications to Circuits and Communications

AMBA-AHB Architecture in VLSI Design

This project deals with wireless Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs). In this project, an improved AODV - PWAODV (Piggyback and weighted neighbor stability Ad hoc On-demand Distance Vector routing) protocol with lower route cost and smaller delay is presented. In the algorithm we introduce a piggyback mechanism and weighted neighbor stability algorithm. Essentially, the route cost can be reduced greatly by the use of piggyback mechanism and the link stability algorithm decreases the delay because of ensuring the robustness of the network topology. Finally, by comparison in the simulation via NS2, our newly-mentioned protocol could acquire better route cost and delay performances.

Hardware Supply Chain Security
