Lifestyle interventions, have been demonstrated to be the least effective. Intensive behavioral interventions combined with dietary modifications and improved physical activity can lead to > 5% weight loss in obese adults.Pharmacological treatment (Orlistat, Liraglutide, Phentermine/Topiramate, Naltrexon/Buproprion, & Locaserin, ) have very restricted efficacy, particularly in individuals with morbid obesity. Bariatric surgery such as sleeve gastrectomy SG and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass; is the most effective but most invasive therapy for morbid obesity.

Talent management in short track speed skating

The main data collection method used in the research is a semi-structured interview, which provides a deeper insight into the talent management processes in short track speed skating, the coaching experiences and the personal experiences of the athletes. This method was chosen to collect data within a consistent framework, while also offering flexibility in the questions to include new themes and ideas that emerge during the interview. This method is particularly advantageous when the phenomena under study are complex and require in-depth understanding, as in this case the talent development processes in short track speed skating. According to K獺llay (2008), semi-structured interviews facilitate the elicitation of interviewees' personal experiences, feelings and a detailed exploration of their motivations, which is essential to answer the research questions. Thematic analysis, one of the most common forms of qualitative data analysis, was used to process the data. This involved grouping the collected interview data into categories to identify frequently occurring patterns and themes. In this way, we gained a structured yet in depth insight into important factors in talent management.

Medicine in the Medieval North Atlantic World
Studies of medical learning in medieval England, Wales, Ireland, and Scandinavia have traditionally focused on each geographical region individually, with the North Atlantic perceived as a region largely peripheral to European culture. Such an approach, however, means that knowledge within this part of the world is never considered in the context of more global interactions, where scholars were in fact deeply engaged in wider intellectual currents concerning medicine and healing that stemmed from both continental Europe and the Middle East. The chapters in this interdisciplinary collection draw together new research from historians, literary scholars, and linguists working on Norse, English, and Celtic material in order to bring fresh insights into the multilingual and cross-cultural nature of medical learning in northern Europe during the Middle Ages, c. 700-1600. They interrogate medical texts and ideas in both Latin and vernacular languages, addressing questions of translation, cultural and scientific inheritance, and exchange, and historical conceptions of health and the human being within nature. In doing so, this volume offers an in-depth study of the reception and transmission of medical knowledge that furthers our understanding both of scholarship in the medieval North Atlantic and across medieval Europe as a whole.

Children’s Health and Urban Ecology in England, 1885-1919
Analyzes public health efforts to reduce infant mortality and improve children's health in three large English cities: Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester. While English public health efforts had reduced the threat of infectious diseases and improved sanitation by the end of the Victorian era, soaring infant mortality rates brought children's health to the forefront of public health concerns. Efforts to understand the causes of infant mortality and improve children's survival required attention to the environments where infant mortality was often highest, i.e., in the cities. Children's Health and Urban Ecology in England, 1885-1919 examines the history of urban public health campaigns in three of the largest English cities, Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester. It considers how local environments impacted children's health by creating ecological conditions ripe for the spread of disease, as well as opportunities for improvements and interventions. Between 1885 and 1919, English public health leaders began to establish increasingly localized approaches to public health that included interventions in households and at schools. This work was conducted by new types of public health professionals, including health visitors to new mothers and school medical officers. While these programs emerged from local environmental conditions, two imperial military conflicts (the Second Anglo-Boer War and the First World War) drew national attention to the importance of children's health. In examining the effects of these conflicts as well as the urgent response to local environmental conditions, Children's Health and Urban Ecology highlights how the epicenter of public health shifted from cities to the state by the end of the First World War.
Emotions and Surgery in Britain, 1793-1912
In this innovative analytical account of the place of emotion and embodiment in nineteenth-century British surgery, Michael Brown examines the changing emotional dynamics of surgical culture for both surgeons and patients from the pre-anaesthetic era through the introduction of anaesthesia and antisepsis techniques. Drawing on diverse archival and published sources, Brown explores how an emotional regime of Romantic sensibility, in which emotions played a central role in the practice and experience of surgery, was superseded by one of scientific modernity, in which the emotions of both patient and practitioner were increasingly marginalised. Demonstrating that the cultures of contemporary surgery and the emotional identities of its practitioners have their origins in the cultural and conceptual upheavals of the later nineteenth century, this book challenges us to question our perception of the pre-anaesthetic period as an era of bloody brutality and casual cruelty.
