Statistical Process Control
Statistical process control methodology was developed by Walter Shewhart in the 1920s as part of his work on quality control in industry. Shewhart observed that quality is about hitting target specifications with minimum variation. While every process is subject to variation, that variation can arise from 'common cause' variation, inherent in the process, or 'special cause' variation which operates from outside of that process. This distinction is crucial because the remedial actions are fundamentally different. Reducing common cause variation requires action to change the process; special cause variation can only be addressed if the external cause is identified. Statistical process control methodology seeks to distinguish between the two causes of variation to guide improvement efforts. Using case studies, this Element shows that statistical process control methodology is widely used in healthcare because it offers an intuitive, practical, and robust approach to supporting efforts to monitor and improve healthcare. The aim of this study was to investigate parents' perceptions of play activities during their child's stay in paediatrics. The methodology used was qualitative, descriptive and exploratory. In the data analysis, a brief characterisation of the participants is presented first, followed by the three themes defined after reading and analysing the material obtained from the interviews. Playfulness as a facilitator during childhood hospitalisation highlights the importance given to the act of playing so that children can bring the cold hospital universe closer to their joyful childhood universe. Playfulness as an auxiliary tool in treatment and prognosis addresses the benefits that such activities bring to the child, being able to have therapeutic functionality during hospitalisation. Playfulness as a working tool for nurses points to the importance of professionals taking playfulness as a working tool, implementing it in their routine, aiming for more humane and sensitive professionals.

The impact of the Ebola epidemic on HIV PMTCT
The N'Z矇r矇kor矇 region has 6 health districts with a total population of 1,696,807 in 2015 [1]. HIV prevalence is 1.6% in Guinea, with 120,000 people including 65,000 women [2]. In Guinea during the Ebola virus disease epidemic, the N'Z矇r矇kor矇 region was the most affected, leading to dysfunctional health services. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of the Ebola epidemic on HIV PMTCT. It covered a 4-year period and focused on HIV-positive pregnant women and their children in 19 health centers. We found a prevalence rate of 0.88% and an acceptance rate of 44.03%. Housewives accounted for 64%. The ARV treatment completion rate fell from 54.95% to 23.23%. The number of patients lost to follow-up increased during the Ebola epidemic. However, the rate of assisted deliveries fell from 94.87% to 69.17% p = 8.126e-06. Similarly, the number of children protected fell from 50.55% to 16.67%. HIV PMTCT has been negatively impacted, as evidenced by a drop in the number of assisted deliveries, an increase in the number of lost to follow-up, break-ups, etc., and a decrease in the number of children protected.

These are discussed in detail, including soldiers' experience of trauma, wounds and exposure to epidemics; and conditions - blindness, sand pneumoconiosis, trauma and limb amputations - resulting from working conditions at building and other sites.Methods of diagnosis and treatment were derived from special concepts about disease and medical ethics. These are explored, as well as the individual contributions and professional interactions of various groups of healers and carers. Medical training and practice occurred in various locations, including temples and battlefields; these are described, as well as the treatments and equipment that were available.Ancient writers generally praised the Egyptian healers' knowledge, expertise, and professional relationship with their patients. A brief comparison is drawn between this approach and those prevailing elsewhere in Mesopotamia, Greece and Rome. Child hood is the topic of the ninth World Glaucoma Association Consensus. There has been only sparse attention to the diagnosis and treatment of childhood glaucoma. Both pediatric ophthalmologists and glaucoma specialists provide care for such children. In some instances, they manage these individuals alone and, in others, the management is shared. For this consensus, the participation of both groups was solicited. The global faculty, consisting of leading authorities on the clinical and scientific aspects of childhood glaucoma, met in Vancouver on July 16, 2013, just prior to the World Glaucoma Congress, to discuss the reports and refine the consensus statements.As with prior meetings, it was a daunting task to seek and obtain consensus on such a complicated and nuanced subject. It is unclear how each of us decides how we practice, and evidence to guide us often is sparse. It is remarkable how few high level studies have been conducted on the management of childhood glaucoma. Hence, this consensus, as with the others, is based not only on the published literature, but also on expert opinion. Although consensus does not replace and is not a surrogate for scientific investigation, it does provide considerable value, especially when the desired evidence is lacking.The goal of this consensus was to provide a foundation for diagnosing and treating childhood glaucoma and how it can be best done in clinical practice. Identification of those areas for which we have little evidence and, therefore, the need for additional research also was a high priority. We hope that this consensus report will serve as a benchmark of our understanding. However, this consensus report, as with each of the others, is intended to be just a beginning. It is expected that it will be revised and improved with the emergence of new evidence.

Cardiovascular diseases
Many chronic non-communicable diseases have been extensively studied today, among which cardiovascular diseases stand out, since they are accompanied by high rates of hospital admissions, physical disabilities and even deaths. This group of diseases includes hypertension, atherosclerosis, heart failure, acute myocardial infarction and peripheral vascular disease, which includes strokes and aneurysms. Although research is being carried out to reduce their incidence, morbidity and mortality, and although there are now modern diagnostic techniques and treatments for them, they still represent a major challenge for public health worldwide. For this reason, we believe that assessing the population's level of knowledge on this subject is important in order to preventively minimize its serious consequences. In addition, we believe that it is also the role of universities to make a scientific and extensionist contribution so that educational actions and effective, low-cost interventions can be developed, favoring the preventive nature of this and many other diseases.
Perinatal Fluoxetine-induced Neurofunctional Changes
There is a considerable risk of developing depression during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Pharmacological treatment of depression in pregnant women is advised in several cases, and the drugs of choice are serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), such as fluoxetine. Considering that serotonin modulates various processes during the development of the organism, the potential effects of perinatal exposure to SSRIs on neurodevelopment are being investigated. In rats, exposure to fluoxetine during the perinatal period (pregnancy and lactation) decreased decision-making capacity, but did not induce anhedonia, in adolescent males and females. In response to a stressor, there was no difference in corticosterone secretion, but adolescent males had reduced activation of the basolateral amygdala, and in adulthood this reduction occurred in the medial amygdala. This study indicates that perinatal fluoxetine exposure induces neurofunctional alterations that may be dependent on gender and age, highlighting the importance of the perinatal environment as a determinant of neurofunctional alterations that continue into adulthood.

Idiopathic epilepsy (IE) accounts for 20% of all epilepsies, but less than 1% of research into this disease. This imbalance reflects a lack of awareness of the diagnostic difficulties, especially in cases of late onset or atypical signs.We conducted a retrospective study including adults followed for AR. We identified the distinctive clinical and paraclinical criteria of the different syndromes in adults.EI-CGTC was the most frequent epileptic syndrome (78.7%), followed by EMJ (17.32%). Glaucoma
Undisturbed, glaucoma blinds people. It respects neither gender nor education; it ignores wealth and privilege. We have no cure for it and we cannot reverse the damage that it has caused. Glaucoma affects about 2% of people over 40 years of age. It is not rare. It is the commonest cause of irreversible and preventable visual disability everywhere. But most of the time we can control it. The earlier glaucoma is diagnosed, the less damage that has been caused, the better the long-term outlook. Early detection requires informed communities whose members seek eye examinations as well as knowledgeable and appropriately equipped eye health care professionals. This requires access to a worthwhile health system. Even in developed societies, about 50% of patients with glaucoma have not been diagnosed and are not on treatment. Half of these undiagnosed people have been seen by an eye health care practitioner in the last two years. With this book, we wish to enlighten our readers with quality information to minimize visual disability from glaucoma.

Platelet Indices in Patients With Benign and Malignant Breast Lesions
The local growth and metastatic spread of breast cancer cells is strongly associated to the co-existence of changes in haemostasis. Platelets play a crucial role in the framework of this nterplay, predominantly through their activation and the trend for reactive thrombocytosis, which both lead to the formation of new blood vessels and increase the local and systematic inflammatory profile, favoring the natural progression of breast cancer. Therefore, it would be very useful to evaluate whether the common laboratory platelet indices could be considered as biomarkers of the biological behavior of a type of cancer, which stands as one of the leading causes of death for the female population. Within the framework of our present study, we evaluated the common laboratory indices of platelets - total count (TPC), mean volume (MPV), platelet distribution width (PDW), large platelet cell ratio (LPCR) - both alone and in combination with the total lymphocyte count, in the form of the conventional prognostic biomarker of survival - platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR) - as well as in the context of its modified version we propose - large platelet to lymphocyte ratio (LPLR). The laboratory data were evaluated for their degree of correlation with the nature of the underlying neoplasia (benign or malignant neoplasia) and, in the case of malignant lesions they were correlated with the basic pathological-anatomical characteristics -tumor size, spread to lymphatic nodes, grade, over-expression of hormonal receptors/HER2 protein- and the Nottingham Prognostic Index (NPI), score used to estimate the 5-year survival of breast cancer patients.

The probe converts electrical current into high-frequency sound waves and sends the waves into your body's tissue. You can't hear the sound waves. Sound waves bounce off structures inside your body and back to the probe, which converts the waves into electrical signals. A computer then converts the pattern of electrical signals into real-time images or videos, which are displayed on a computer screen nearby.

Long-Lasting Insecticidal Treated Bed Net in Preventing Malaria
Malaria is a major public health problem in Ethiopia; mainly due to the large Mobile community and climate change. Teltele Woreda is one of the high malaria transmission stratified districts in the land area of Borena Zone. Objective To assess utilisation of treated bed net in malaria prevention among individuals in Teltele district, Borena zone, Ethiopia from July 15-August 31, 2022.Methods: An institution-based age, resident, and gender-matched case-control study was conducted among 300 samples (75 cases and 225 controls). Cases were individuals tested by microscopy and get positive for malaria at health centers and hospitals, controls were matched by age, resident and gender with cases by interval and individual matching respectively. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire, entered into Epi-data version 3.1 and matched cases and controls were paired by grouping with the same codes. The data were exported to STATA version 14.0 for analysis. Results: About 29(39%) cases and 130(58.5%) controls slept under bed net regularly for two weeks before data collection. The study shows odds of malaria infection are reduced by 71.6% among individuals who use bed nets regularly.
