Dr. Susan Love’s Breast Book
The "Bible" (New York Times) and the "seminal work" (LA Times) offering the most authoritative guidance through all stages of breast cancer diagnosis and recovery, fully revised and updated. While the amount of information regarding a breast cancer diagnosis is vaster than ever, online and off, what continues to be missing is the explanation behind the options. Most of the data online on medical sites is generic and often comes from the same source. Then there are the patient sites as well as many social media outlets that provide peer to peer support and information. This is important for emotional support but still leaves out the full range of options and the reasons for them. The Breast Book is where people go for a deeper understanding of how to make the best possible choices for their particular situations. Now in its seventh edition, the Breast Book has been fully revised to incorporate all the most recent developments in prevention, treatments and research. This new edition covers: New treatments: including new drugs, vaccines, hormonal treatment and drugs with longer duration (10 years) for the estrogen positive tumors The increasing focus on where cells live, both locally (immune system, hormones, etc.) and systemically (stress, etc.) Prevention: several new drugs have been added to the list of chemoprevention drugs. In addition, preventative surgery has received increased attention. Increased data on "alternative" approaches such as stress reduction and exercise in reducing recurrence. Increased understanding of the immune system and how it either controls or promotes the cancer. Risks for survivors Genetics Special groups: Men with breast cancer are demanding a louder voice in the conversation and research.

Tourette
Tourette's syndrome is a multifaceted disorder that affects 0.6%-1% of the global population. Across their lifespan, affected individuals suffer a worse quality of life than the general population. The hallmarks of the disease are motor and vocal/phonic tics. The severity of the tics is influenced by stressful life events, anxiety, fatigue, and behavioral co-morbidities, more commonly attention-deficit hyperactive disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Although a psychoanalytic etiological view prevailed into the 20th century, the disease is now recognized as a neurodevelopmental motor disorder at the crossroads between neurology, neuropediatrics, and neuropsychiatry. Recent neuroimaging data also suggest a defect in brain maturation. The etiology of the disease is now explained by both genetic factors and, to a lesser extent, environmental influences. While there is no cure, there are a number of medical treatments (including non-medicine behavioral treatments) that can be effective at reducing tics or helping to manage co-occurring conditions. However, there is no one medication that is helpful to all people with Tourette, nor does any medication completely eliminate symptoms. Tics may improve as a result of treatments that include behavioral therapy, pharmacotherapy, and functional neurosurgery (deep brain stimulation, transcranial magnetic stimulation, cranial electrotherapy stimulation, and continuous theta-burst stimulation). If tic symptoms are mild and do not cause impairment, there may be no need for treatment. Treatment is necessary when individuals experience physical discomfort, functional dysfunction, and poor interpersonal interaction and mental health. While Tourette is not life-threatening, tics and their associated co-morbidities affect physical and mental health and their social interactions. While the prognosis has been extensively researched, prognostic indicators carry clinical significance in terms of helping to inform patients of the long-term outcomes of their disorder, and directing their follow-up and management.

A Better Normal for Body Confidence
Changed and impacted sexuality including changes in body image and body confidence from cancer treatments is one of the most common challenges people face, yet is one of the most under-addressed. Cancer treatments can impact all aspects of our lives, so why is no one talking about the more 'intimate' struggles we face? Why is sex and cancer such an ignored topic? If you've received a cancer diagnosis and are experiencing body shame, embarrassment, changes in your self confidence or body confidence, this book offers practical support and solutions to recover and increase your body image during and after treatments, including advice and education on dating during and after treatments. This bite-sized book in the 'A Better Normal' mini-book series is core information from the all-in-one sexuality and cancer guide 'A Better Normal; Your Guide to Rediscovering Intimacy After Cancer'. Small enough to read in one sitting, this book is a must-have for anyone impacted by cancer treatments who may need support, because we all deserve love and connection. Written by a sexuality occupational therapist, somatic sexologist and a sexuality educator, who also has fought cancer, this book is filled with practical information and ways you can reconnect with yourself and/or a partner, from someone who's literally been there. With down to Earth humour mixed in with a dash of neuroscience, Tess offers a positive path to your body confidence recovery, to recover what you thought was lost. If you're experiencing particular side-effects (drops in libido, vaginal dryness and pain, changes in erection, fatigue etc), or need sexual supports that are treatment specific (radiotherapy, chemotherapy or hormone therapy), take a look at the other mini-books in the 'A Better Normal' series. If you're after all of the sexuality and cancer information you need in one place, see 'A Better Normal; Your Guide to Discovering Your Intimacy After Cancer'.
