2023/12/12 出版

Lynn Accongio Soles is all about creating beauty. An award-winning artist and art teacher, her work has been featured in galleries and public murals throughout the Carolinas. Lynn also owns and operates Permanent Beauty LLC, which offers permanent makeup, paramedical tattooing, and body art. She has been honored with an Excellence in Business award and nominated as her community's Citizen of the Year.In her Art Positive studio, she nurtures and challenges people of all ages in their artistry. Many of her students have grown into award-winning artists. She implemented accreditation of the Art Enrichment Program for the Association of Christian Schools, Inc. Lynn finds that when she helps people learn to create art, they also learn to create the beautiful life they want. As Lynn sees it, art is not just a way to experience "going with the flow" of your imagination and instincts. Studying art encourages you to practice new skills, starting small, and experience yourself growing toward larger goals, seeing them come alive before you. After her 2022 cancer diagnosis, Lynn found a renewed focus on how God creates internal beauty among those who love Him. The demands of chemotherapy and other treatments set new limits on what she could do, but also encouraged her to focus more on tending the spiritual growth that would outlast her earthly lifespan.Lynn is married to her soulmate Chris, who works in the construction industry. He's a creative guy in his own right, whose creative projects have included designing an addition to the little farmhouse they live in and creating furnishings for their home from architectural salvage. They partner on artworks where Lynn paints an image or design on top of a poured resin design Chris has created.Lynn enjoys her family and now being a grammy. She and Chris are active in their local church.

Cancer Prevention- A guide

Ingram 出版
2023/12/11 出版

Cancer Prevention - A guide is a comprehensive book on prevention of cancer that covers the latest research on cancer prevention. It discusses the role of diet, exercise, stress reduction, sleep, yoga and other complementary therapies in cancer prevention. The book also provides practical advice on how to make lifestyle changes to reduce your risk of cancer.SOCIETY FOR PREVENTION OF CANCER- Until now, extensive scientific research has been done on various diseases and ways to treat them. Due to the covid outbreak, the focus is shifting towards immunity building and disease prevention. The need for cancer prevention has also been highlighted in the recent discovery of a Japanese scientist, Professor Yoshinori Ohsumi, on the way cells consume themselves, a process that plays a key role in cancer and other diseases. Throughout history, our ancient Vedas and revered Ayurvedic teachings have consistently emphasised the critical importance of prevention. At the heart of this philosophy is the resonating motto "Let the well be well and help the sick," which captures the essence of proactive care. The Atharva Veda, brimming with profound meditative and medical wisdom, is regarded as an invaluable treasure by ancient Indian physicians. The importance of prevention is further emphasised in various sections of the renowned Charaka Samhita, immortalising its enduring relevance. In the contemporary world, the significance of prevention through dietary and lifestyle modifications has resurfaced and regained prominence. Within the realm of medical terminology, this aligns with the concept of 'Public Health, ' which endeavors to avert issues before they manifest in the population, epitomizing the timeless adage: "Prevention is better than cure." In pursuit of its noble objective, the Society for Prevention of Cancer (SPOC) was established in January 2021. Its purpose is to elevate consciousness regarding cancer prevention and foster an understanding of how lifestyle modifications rooted in scientific insights can deter cancer occurrence and recurrence. With utmost humility, we present this book, a profound exposition that encompasses the breadth and depth of cancer prevention, aiming to galvanize a collective movement. It is our sincere aspiration that medical practitioners, public health specialists, aspiring healthcare professionals, and scholars in allied scientific disciplines will unite with us, forging ahead together in this noble endeavor. This book represents the Society's latest endeavor to impart comprehensive knowledge to students and the general public regarding cancer prevention and its prevention of recurrence. It serves as a valuable resource, equipping readers with the necessary information to proactively safeguard against cancer and its reoccurrence. Ingram 出版
2023/12/06 出版

Picked to Survive looks at life's challenges, events, experiences, and victories through the lens of spoken word, poetry, and short story. Picked examines the survivorship of those picked out and picked on and declares them victors. Picked to Survive themes embrace harsh truths while exploring the intensity of pain, loss, grief, shame, heartache, and heartbreak, by exposing provocative relationships, complicated spiritual attachments, and personal traumas. Through the author's poetry, she accounts her personal battle of surviving childhood struggles, bad relationships, losing loved ones, and stage two ovarian cancer; she, in return, encourages her readers to lean into life's happenings, hold their heads up high, and trust that God has a plan for their lives. The author's work shows how believing and trusting God through every circumstance can bring healing into a situation, even as life storms come. Giving up and letting go is not an option; she reminds her readers that, "God sees you; God chooses you, and will lift you up from among all of the withering flowers in the garden and pick you to survive".

Dr. Susan Love’s Breast Book

Susan M,Love  著
Hachette Go 出版
2023/10/24 出版

The "Bible" (New York Times) and the "seminal work" (LA Times) offering the most authoritative guidance through all stages of breast cancer diagnosis and recovery, fully revised and updated. While the amount of information regarding a breast cancer diagnosis is vaster than ever, online and off, what continues to be missing is the explanation behind the options. Most of the data online on medical sites is generic and often comes from the same source. Then there are the patient sites as well as many social media outlets that provide peer to peer support and information. This is important for emotional support but still leaves out the full range of options and the reasons for them. The Breast Book is where people go for a deeper understanding of how to make the best possible choices for their particular situations. Now in its seventh edition, the Breast Book has been fully revised to incorporate all the most recent developments in prevention, treatments and research. This new edition covers: New treatments: including new drugs, vaccines, hormonal treatment and drugs with longer duration (10 years) for the estrogen positive tumors The increasing focus on where cells live, both locally (immune system, hormones, etc.) and systemically (stress, etc.) Prevention: several new drugs have been added to the list of chemoprevention drugs. In addition, preventative surgery has received increased attention. Increased data on "alternative" approaches such as stress reduction and exercise in reducing recurrence. Increased understanding of the immune system and how it either controls or promotes the cancer. Risks for survivors Genetics Special groups: Men with breast cancer are demanding a louder voice in the conversation and research.

Tourette

Ingram 出版
2023/09/01 出版

Tourette's syndrome is a multifaceted disorder that affects 0.6%-1% of the global population. Across their lifespan, affected individuals suffer a worse quality of life than the general population. The hallmarks of the disease are motor and vocal/phonic tics. The severity of the tics is influenced by stressful life events, anxiety, fatigue, and behavioral co-morbidities, more commonly attention-deficit hyperactive disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Although a psychoanalytic etiological view prevailed into the 20th century, the disease is now recognized as a neurodevelopmental motor disorder at the crossroads between neurology, neuropediatrics, and neuropsychiatry. Recent neuroimaging data also suggest a defect in brain maturation. The etiology of the disease is now explained by both genetic factors and, to a lesser extent, environmental influences. While there is no cure, there are a number of medical treatments (including non-medicine behavioral treatments) that can be effective at reducing tics or helping to manage co-occurring conditions. However, there is no one medication that is helpful to all people with Tourette, nor does any medication completely eliminate symptoms. Tics may improve as a result of treatments that include behavioral therapy, pharmacotherapy, and functional neurosurgery (deep brain stimulation, transcranial magnetic stimulation, cranial electrotherapy stimulation, and continuous theta-burst stimulation). If tic symptoms are mild and do not cause impairment, there may be no need for treatment. Treatment is necessary when individuals experience physical discomfort, functional dysfunction, and poor interpersonal interaction and mental health. While Tourette is not life-threatening, tics and their associated co-morbidities affect physical and mental health and their social interactions. While the prognosis has been extensively researched, prognostic indicators carry clinical significance in terms of helping to inform patients of the long-term outcomes of their disorder, and directing their follow-up and management.

That dreaded word, "Cancer." Your, or someone close to you, medical diagnosis has confirmed it is indeed cancer. Now what?Understanding cancer treatment is essential for individuals who have been diagnosed with cancer and their caregivers. Cancer treatment can vary based on factors such as the type and stage of cancer, the individual's overall health, and treatment goals.Life during cancer treatment can be a significant adjustment, impacting various aspects of your daily routine, emotions, and overall well-being. This book will provide some insight on what you might expect your life to be like during cancer treatment.Treatment is on its way, now it is important to understand that the side effects vary from person to person, and not everyone experiences all of them. The healthcare team is there to help manage side effects and provide guidance tailored to the patient's specific situation. Open communication and a proactive approach to self-care can help one cope with chemotherapy side effects more effectively.Discovering that you are now in remission from cancer is often a moment of relief and celebration. Remission means that there is no evidence of active cancer in the body, although it's important to note that the term can have different interpretations based on the type of cancer and medical context. The reaction to the announcement of remission varies greatly from person to person, and the support they need will as well. Life after cancer is a significant transition that brings a mix of emotions, adjustments, and new perspectives. While it's a time of celebration and relief, it also comes with challenges and changes. Surviving cancer, the possibilities for what one can become are vast and varied. Your experience with cancer can shape your outlook on life, your goals, and your aspirations.Remember that the fight against cancer is unique, and there's no one-size-fits-all experience. While challenges may arise, many individuals find strength and resilience within themselves and their support networks to navigate through this phase of life. Once the fight is won, remember that life after cancer is a unique journey, and there is no perfect formula to the experience. Each experience is valid, and it's important to give the vector time and space to adjust. The champion has already demonstrated incredible strength by overcoming cancer. Cancer survivors can achieve anything. The power to achieve and pursue individual goals lies within you. Challenges like surviving cancer can indeed be transformative experiences that demonstrate an individual's strength, resilience, and determination. While life may present obstacles, the ability to overcome them is a testament to one's inner potential.

A meticulous doctor's all-consuming search for the cure to her father's Alzheimer's leads to a discovery she did not expect. Dementia need not be a disaster or a dread; instead it can be a doorway to creating a smarter brain, stronger body and more fulfilling life. The End of Food Allergy

Kari,Nadeau  著
Ingram 出版
2023/08/14 出版

A life-changing, research-based program that will end food allergies in children and adults forever. The problem of food allergy is exploding around us. But this book offers the first glimpse of hope with a powerful message: You can work with your family and your doctor to eliminate your food allergy forever. The trailblazing research of Dr. Kari Nadeau at Stanford University reveals that food allergy is not a life sentence, because the immune system can be retrained. Food allergies--from mild hives to life-threatening airway constriction--can be disrupted, slowed, and stopped. The key is a strategy called immunotherapy (IT)--the controlled, gradual reintroduction of an allergen into the body. With innovations that include state-of-the-art therapies targeting specific components of the immune system, Dr. Nadeau and her team have increased the speed and effectiveness of this treatment to a matter of months. New York Times bestselling author Sloan Barnett, the mother of two children with food allergies, provides a lay perspective that helps make Dr. Nadeau's research accessible for everyone. Together, they walk readers through every aspect of food allergy, including how to find the right treatment and how to manage the ongoing fear of allergens that haunts so many sufferers, to give us a clear, supportive plan to combat a major national and global health issue.
