This is Martha Reingold's third book. Her two prior works, Jewish Wry and Other Slices of Life and the Girl Out of Brooklyn are both collections of stories, essays, and poems. Here, in The Seabury Scribblers Present... Martha has donned her non-fiction hat to describe the experience of writing poetry with dementia patients. It was a very special thing to do. She discovered the power of poetry to communicate with people in all stages of dementia. "Poetry is a form of therapy," she says.Over the course of a year and a half, the Seabury Scribblers met to create 26 poems. This book contains all the poems the group wrote as well as commentary on the wonders of Seabury, a continuing care residential community in Bloomfield. Seabury is a wonderful place where senior citizens reside in comfort in independent living, assisted living, and spaces where special attention is available. The Seabury Meadows houses dementia residents and is, as Martha says, "the most inspiring place to work." As a volunteer, she has come to love the residents and the staff that cares for them. Reading this little book, one will learn one way to engage with those people grappling with dementia. To make them laugh. To give them a sense of a job well done. Hats off to Seabury for creating such a grand, comfortable place. This is a story that should be told. It should be read by students of nursing, social work, psychiatry, and psychology. It will be helpful to anyone who interacts with these people.

Fundamentals of Bile Duct Injuries
Bile duct injuries (BDI) are considered the most serious surgical complication associated with cholecystectomy. According to different reports, its incidence has remained constant over the years, ranging from 0.1% to 0.9%. BDI is associated with a greater risk of perioperative morbidity and mortality, a reduction in the quality of life, and a decrease in long-term survival. Also, this complication is a concern to surgeons since its progression is uncertain and may lead to demands on professional responsibility ("malpractice") and emotional and physical consequences ("second victim").Given that injuries in a high percentage of patients are initially unsuspected, the postoperative recovery may be prolonged, and the possibility of a successful repair reduced. Several surgical, endoscopic, and percutaneous procedures may be necessary to manage the lesions and to treat coexisting complications. BDI patients often undergo several repair attempts before successful resolution. This affects their quality of life and has a high psychological, physical, and mental impact due to the prolonged, complex, and unexpected nature of the injury. This currently represents a frequent problem in specialized referral centers or hepatobilopancreatic surgery units, where patients arrive with the sequelae of previous inadequate treatments. Usually, these patients require more elaborate procedures such as reoperations, liver resections and liver transplantation. The prevention, early diagnosis, and adequate treatment in the first approach is of crucial importance to ensure good long-term results. Therefore, this book is an essential resource for surgeons who perform cholecystectomy or treat BDI patients. It provides practical information and a comprehensive review on prevention and proper management, including complex cases. Readers will find contributions by experienced authors from a multidisciplinary and reference team in the management of BDI patients.

The Man of Genius
First published in English in 1891, the present work argues that genius is a morbid condition, a very special form of insanity, which often occurs alongside physical or other mental abnormalities. Alexander was short. Cardano a hypochondriac. Socrates had a cretin-like physiognomy. Giotto rickets. Kant an abnormal development of the left parietal bone. Erasmus stammered. Saint Paul was an epileptic. Coleridge an alcoholic. Nerval a manic depressive. Carlyle abused his wife. Lombroso surveys hundreds of artistic, literary, and religious figures, noting the aberrations in their personalities, private lives, habits, creative work, physical traits, and psychological characteristics. The theory herein advanced, though controversial even in its day, proved nevertheless culturally influential. Notably, the author offered one of the earliest examinations of the art of the insane. Hans Prinzhorn, author of The Artistry of the Mentally Ill (1922) was inspired by Lombroso's examination of psychiatric art. Prinzhorn's work would in turn inspire Jean Dubuffet to found the Art Brut movement. Similarly, Max Nordau's Degeneration (1892)-an attack on 'degenerate' art-owes much to Lombroso's work concerning men of genius in art and literature. Though outdated as a scientific study, with its fusion of criminology, criminal anthropology, degeneration theory, psychiatry, and physiognomy, The Man of Genius remains, all the same, a landmark in the history of ideas. And, though modern psychology classes much of what Lombroso deemed signs of insanity as minor deviations, have his insights not retained an element of truth?
