The Split Mind

2025/07/14 出版

Original edition reissued in 2023 with new cover. This is a print on demand title and is not held in stock. The delivery leadtimes will be longer. Have you ever asked yourself what is mental illness? Have you ever wondered what it is like to live with a mental illness? "The Split Mind" enters into the psyche of a person with paranoid schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is an illness that is marked by delusions and disturbed thought. The patient's state of mind will usually remain in a highly irrational or illusionary state. The patient then loses his sense of the real world, in favour of a world that is based purely on false beliefs. This illness inevitably splits the patient's focus out of the real world, into a world based on falsehoods and unattested thoughts.According to researchers, schizophrenia is caused by a chemical imbalance. In effect, there are abnormal levels of different neurotransmitters within the patient's brain. Dopamine may be a key neurotransmitter behind delusional thoughts. This chemical imbalance can be corrected through medications or other varying methods. Nevertheless, scientists, as of yet, have not discovered a permanent cure. The recovery process for the patient will usually be slow because he must take certain steps to ensure that a relapse will never occur. As an illness, schizophrenia may be no different from any other disease. It is a disease that affects the human brain. No patients develop schizophrenia because of any psychological or behavioural problems. It is a genetic disease that is highly treatable, and through perseverance, highly recoverable.

Domestic Violence in Medicine and Psychotherapy

Horia,Fabini  著
Springer 出版
2025/07/12 出版

This specialist book provides essential insights for professionals: Domestic violence is not a mental disorder--it is a threatening scenario that entails significant risks for those affected. Topics covered include: Risk and threat assessment Risk management Crisis intervention Consulting on protective measures across different threat situations Professional support for victims Counseling of perpetrators Collaboration with authorities and support services Professional cooperation and networking About the Author: Horia Fabini is a psychological psychotherapist, group therapist (BAG), psychotraumatologist (DeGPT), specialist in emergency psychology, criminal psychologist, as well as a supervisor and teaching therapist (DVT). He also works as a prevention manager for extremism and radicalization, an expert assessor specializing in forensic and risk evaluations, and serves as the scientific director of the Emergency Psychology Curriculum at the Bodelschwingh Academy in Berlin. Subglottal Pressure Measures During Vocal fry Phonation

Thomas,Murry  著
2025/07/11 出版

This work presents research on subglottal pressure during vocal fry phonation. Likely delving into the mechanics of voice production, the study by Thomas Murry (1943-) probably investigates the relationship between air pressure beneath the vocal folds and the acoustic characteristics of vocal fry. This research would be valuable for phoneticians, speech-language pathologists, and voice scientists interested in understanding the physiological aspects of this particular vocal register. It provides insights into the biomechanics of voice and could potentially have applications in the diagnosis and treatment of voice disorders. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Cancer, the Cause - the Cure, to a Known god by an Unknown Physician

2025/07/11 出版

Cancer, the Cause - the Cure, to a Known god by an Unknown Physician, penned by Herbert Edmund Gardinor, offers a unique perspective on cancer treatment rooted in faith and divine intervention. Published in 1916, this book reflects the medical and religious landscape of the early 20th century, proposing that cancer's origins and cure lie within a spiritual relationship with a higher power. Gardinor explores the concept of healing through faith, presenting a blend of religious belief and medical understanding. While medical practices have evolved significantly since its publication, this work remains a valuable historical document, illustrating the role of faith in health and the search for alternative approaches to cancer treatment during a time of limited medical advancements. It offers insights into the intersection of religion, medicine, and personal belief, making it a fascinating read for those interested in the history of medicine, religious healing, and the cultural context of early cancer research. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. The Relation of Adaptation in Stuttering to Self-acceptance, Manifest Anxiety, and Level of Aspiration

2025/07/11 出版

An investigation into the relationship between adaptation in stuttering and psychological factors. This study explores the connections between the adaptation effect in stuttering-the phenomenon where stuttering decreases with repeated readings of the same material-and an individual's self-acceptance, manifest anxiety, and level of aspiration. Hutchison's research offers valuable insights into the psychological dimensions of stuttering, moving beyond purely physiological explanations to consider the role of self-perception and emotional state in speech fluency. This work is significant for speech pathologists, psychologists, and anyone interested in understanding the complex interplay between mind and body in communication disorders. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
