The Significance of Touch in Psychiatry
Touch is one of the fundamental media for interpersonal communication. Over recent decades, scientific efforts have been devoted to establishing the significance of touch, particularly affective touch, in the treatment and prevention of mental disorders and clarifying the underlying mechanisms of touch and massage therapy. The main objective of this study was to improve the biological activity with minimum side effects by using sub therapeutic dose of Sitagliptin with guggul sterones in streptozotocin induced diabetic rat models. An animal trial was carried out using the drug Sitagliptin low therapeutic dose, co-administered with sub-therapeutic dose of Guggul Sterones by using albino wistar rats, in different dose levels observed the toxicity and antidiabetic activity. The author hopes that this book will prove to be very important and useful for readers and researchers in the field of pharmacology & toxicology.
Effects of Metformin on Psoriasis
BackgroundPsoriasis is a skin disease that occurs in 2- 3 % of the population that maylead to disruption of the quality of the lifestyle. This study aimed to investigate the antipsoriatic activity of topical metformin in mouse tailmodel. Additionally, to study the use of metformin topically and orally inan attempt to evaluate its effectiveness on imiquimod-induced psoriasis in mice. Conclusion From present study, the followings can be concluded and that involvedOral and topical metformin (10% and 15%) gels had antipsoriatic. Secondly: Protective and therapeutic effect of metformin against imiquimodinduced psoriasis probably through mechanistic pathway involved antiinflammatory, anti-proliferative and antiangiogenesis effect thirdly: Metformin topical gel (10% and 15%) more effective against imiquimod induced psoriasis when being compared to oral metformin (150mg/kg).Fourthly: Topical and oral metformin showed less antipsoriatic activity in comparison with clobetasol. Fifthly: Metformin had an ameliorating effect on histopathological changes of mice skin that induced by imiquimod.

Membrane transporters are of vital importance for cells. They mediate the flux of many substances through the plasma membrane. In this book, the transporters for organic cations, a special class of membrane transporters, are presented. Transporters belonging to this class are important because they allow many neurotransmitters (e.g., histamine and serotonin) and many drugs (e.g., trospium and tofacitinib) to permeate the plasma membrane. Therefore, transporters for organic cations can modulate the action of neurotransmitters and drugs, having in this way important physiological and pharmacological implications. These aspects are illustrated in original works and reviews presented in this book. Using a system biology approach, the global significance of different transporters working together has been illustrated. Regulation mechanisms determining their expression in specific organs and modulating their function are also described in this book, also concerning their role for special drug toxicities.
