Traditional and Indigenous Knowledge for the Modern Era
While there is talk of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, old and new challenges bedevil the world - climate change, nutrition, and health poverty being at the top of the list. In seeking solutions to these and other problems which afflict the modern era, it is worthwhile to look into our collective past, to the traditions and knowledges of our ancestors. Such knowledge continues to exist in many parts of the world, though now marginalized by homogenous, Eurocentric ontolology and epistemology. This book presents a compilation of reviews, case studies, and primary research attempting to locate the utility of traditional and Indigenous Knowledges in an increasingly complex world. It assembles chapter authors from across the world to tackle topics ranging from traditional knowledge-based innovations and commercialization, traditional medicine systems as practiced around the world, ethnoveterinary practices, and food innovation to traditional governance and leadership systems, among others. This book is an important resource for policymakers; scholars and researchers of cultural studies, leadership, governance, ethnobotany, anthropology, plant genetic resources and technology innovation; and readers interested in the history of knowledge and culture, as well as cultural activists and political scientists.Features: Unique combination of social science and anthropological aspects with natural science perspectives Includes summaries aimed at policymakers to immediately see what would be relevant to their work Combines case studies illuminating important lessons learned with reviews and primary data Multidisciplinary in the scope of the topics tackled and assemblage of contributors Global footprint with contributions from Africa, Europe, North America, Asia, and the West Indies David R. Embedded Pharmacists in Primary Care
As healthcare delivery moves from a provider-centric approach to a more patient-centric approach, systems and payers need to reimagine how care and team-based care is delivered to patients and reimbursed. Thus, the goal should be to see the right patient, by the right provider, in the right place, for the right price, and where appropriate, with the use of the right pharmaceutical(s) - "5 P's". There continues to be a reduction in physicians that are pursuing primary care roles in the United States, thus exacerbating the ability to meet patient demand. Most patient encounters begin with or end with the prescribing of medication. Thus, a future where pharmacists are embedded in primary care settings allows these pharmacists to collaborate at the point-of-prescribing (i.e., in-clinic) and provides tremendous benefits to providers and patients. The pharmacist workforce is educated at the doctoral level, yet vastly underutilized and can assist in a collaborative approach in primary care. The collection of articles in the Special Issue "Embedded Pharmacists in Primary Care" highlight examples of models that have included pharmacists in the ambulatory setting providing services in chronic disease management, comprehensive medication management, and care of specific conditions such as diabetes.

Making Healthcare Safe
This unique and engaging open access title provides a compelling and ground-breaking account of the patient safety movement in the United States, told from the perspective of one of its most prominent leaders, and arguably the movement's founder, Lucian L. Leape, MD. Covering the growth of the field from the late 1980s to 2015, Dr. Leape details the developments, actors, organizations, research, and policy-making activities that marked the evolution and major advances of patient safety in this time span. In addition, and perhaps most importantly, this book not only comprehensively details how and why human and systems errors too often occur in the process of providing health care, it also promotes an in-depth understanding of the principles and practices of patient safety, including how they were influenced by today's modern safety sciences and systems theory and design. Indeed, the book emphasizes how the growing awareness of systems-design thinking and the self-education and commitment to improving patient safety, by not only Dr. Leape but a wide range of other clinicians and health executives from both the private and public sectors, all converged to drive forward the patient safety movement in the US. Making Healthcare Safe is divided into four parts: I. In the Beginning describes the research and theory that defined patient safety and the early initiatives to enhance it. II. Institutional Responses tells the stories of the efforts of the major organizations that began to apply the new concepts and make patient safety a reality. Most of these stories have not been previously told, so this account becomes their histories as well. III. Getting to Work provides in-depth analyses of four key issues that cut across disciplinary lines impacting patient safety which required special attention. IV. Creating a Culture of Safety looks tothe future, marshalling the best thinking about what it will take to achieve the safe care we all deserve. Captivatingly written with an "insider's" tone and a major contribution to the clinical literature, this title will be of immense value to health care professionals, to students in a range of academic disciplines, to medical trainees, to health administrators, to policymakers and even to lay readers with an interest in patient safety and in the critical quest to create safe care.

Simultaneous Estimations of Illaprazole and Domperidone
Chemistry is a science that deals with the composition structure and properties of substances and with the transformation that they undergo. Analytical chemistry is a branch of chemistry involved with the analysis of chemical substances. It encompasses the theory and practice of all means of acquiring information about the composition of matter. The analysis is used here in a broad sense to include identifying substances called qualitative analysis, determining the concentration or amount of substance called quantitative analysis and determining the structure of substances. Pharmaceutical analysis plays a very vital role in the Quality Assurance and quality control of Bulk Drugs. Here we developed and validated of illaprazole and domperidone by using RP-HPLC methods.

Neisseria gonorrhoeae Infections
Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted infection caused by the obligate human pathogen"Neisseria gonorrhoeae". This Gram-negative diplococcus is highly infective due to its virulence factors: pili, Por proteins, Opa proteins, Rmp proteins, lipooligosaccharides and IgA protease. Despite existing guidelines for its treatment, the incidence of the disease follows an increasing trend worldwide. This is mainly due to the appearance of antibiotic-resistant strains, inefficient diagnostic methods and poor sexual education. Without an effective vaccine available, the key priorities for the control of the disease include sexual education, contact notification, epidemiological surveillance, diagnosis and effective antibiotic treatment. This Special Issue focuses on some of these important issuesm such as the molecular mechanisms of the disease, diagnostic tests and different treatment strategies used to combat gonorrhea.
Formulation and Development of Bilayer Floating Tablets of Nifedipine
The aim of the present research work was to develop and formulate a bilayer floating sustained release tablet of Nifedipine. Nifedipine is an antihypertensive agent. Surface solid dispersion of Nifedipine was prepared by solvent evaporation method with different super disintegrants as a polymer for improvement of solubility resulting in improved bioavailability. Bilayer consists of two layers, immediate-release layer, and second sustained release layer, compressed in the single unit dosage form. The immediate-release layer contains surface solid dispersion of Nifedipine. The floating sustained release layer also contains surface solid dispersion of Nifedipine, HPMC K100M & HPMC K15M as sustained release polymer. The floating properties of the tablets were achieved by the use of sodium bicarbonate & citric acid which generate the gas upon contact with gastric fluid. The immediate-release layer releases the drug immediately and starts the onset of action and the floating sustained release layer floats on gastric fluid for upto12 hours and releases the drug in a sustained manner, subsequently, it prolongs the duration of action.
