Effect of Long-Term Insomnia on Mental Health

Mdpi AG 出版
2025/06/27 出版

The purpose of this reprint is to explain the health-related factors, mechanisms, and consequences of mental health problems associated with chronic sleep disorders. The reprint presents how insomnia and sleep disorders affect mental health across genders and high-risk groups, including populations such as university students, healthcare workers, firefighters, people with ADHD symptoms, people with chronic spinal pain, and patients of forensic hospitals suffering from chronic neuropsychiatric disorders. By integrating findings from diverse demographic and clinical groups, the reprint provides insight into how chronic sleep disorders intersect with mental health, offering guidance for targeted interventions and public health policies. The reprint highlights the impact of contextual factors, including the COVID-19 pandemic, occupational stress, and digital media exposure, on sleep hygiene and mental well-being. The researchers examined how the currently observed risks associated with the use of modern technology, such as mobile screen addiction and online gaming disorder, impact specific aspects of mental health, including insomnia, stress, anxiety, and depression. Such a multifaced and comprehensive approach can be helpful for health-related organizations, healthcare professionals, and policymakers to develop the best strategies for prevention and psychological intervention for people at risk.

Medicinal Plant Research in Africa

Victor,Kuete  著
Elsevier 出版
2025/06/26 出版

Medicinal Plant Research in Africa, second edition is an updated and complete reference on the pharmacology of most relevant African species and their phytochemical properties. Although pharmacopoeias of most African countries are available and contain an impressive number of medicinal plants used for various therapeutic purposes, however there was no global standard book on the nature and specificity of chemicals isolated in African medicinal plants. This book has set the standard when it first published in 2013 and now is updated with novel phytochemicals belonging to diverse classes of terpenoids, phenolics, and alkaloids. The first chapter cover monoterpenes and related phytochemicals and is followed by sesquiterpenes on chapter two. Chapter tri reviews diterpenoids and chapter four provides an overview of triterpenes and steroids. Essential oils, simple phenols, phenolic acids and related esters come next in chapters five and six, respectively. The following chapters cover coumarins, flavonoids, quinones, xanthones, lignans and stilbenes. Tannins, alkaloids, and ceramides. Chapters 15 to 20 focus on specific health conditions starting with antibiotic infection, antimalarial and other antiprotozoal diseases, cytotoxic and anticancer activity, anti-inflammatory and analgesic action, antidiabetic botanicals and the applications of African plant phytochemicals on reproductive, cardiovascular, and central nervous systems conditions. The final chapter covers the market and industry updates since the first edition published. "Medicinal Plant Research in Africa, 2 Ed." provides a complete overview of the main phytochemical principles present in the African flora and their pharmaceutical use. Pharmaceutical scientists, Ethnopharmacists, botanists, and medicinal chemists will benefit from the content organization and the inclusion of the most recent methods for structural identification of phytochemicals, pharmacological techniques, and data interpretation.

Top 100 Drugs

Jason,Cafer  著
Cafermed LLC 出版
2025/06/24 出版

Top 100 Drugs: CPhT Edition is a pharmacy technician's visual guide to mastering the most commonly prescribed medications in the U.S., specifically curated for the PTCE and ExCPT exams. At the heart of the book is a unique system of "mnemonic engineering," in which each drug is represented by a custom-designed character-or mascot-that encodes key information visually. These mascots are not just illustrations; they are carefully crafted memory tools designed to embed drug facts into long-term recall. Most mascots are name-based visual mnemonics, formed from phrases that link the generic and brand names in memorable, sometimes quirky ways. For example, Atorvastatin (LIPITOR) becomes the "Lippy Tornado," and Metformin (GLUCOPHAGE) is "Mr. Met formin' Glucose Fudge." These image-based puns serve as anchors, helping students rapidly recall drug names, therapeutic classes, and common uses-crucial for both exams and daily practice in retail or clinical settings. The core purpose of this mascot system is cognitive anchoring. By tapping into the brain's visual and linguistic memory centers, the mascots help learners develop quick, reliable recall in real-world pharmacy environments. Whether verifying prescriptions, labeling medications, or answering patient questions, pharmacy techs trained with these visuals can recall facts faster and with greater confidence. In more advanced CaferMed books, these mascots evolve into data-driven interaction avatars-sophisticated visuals that model drug-drug interactions, metabolic pathways, and receptor binding properties. Although this CPhT edition is focused on entry-level material, it serves as a foundational visual vocabulary that prepares students for future clinical learning. This book combines humor, artistry, and pharmacology to create an engaging, high-yield study resource. By transforming dry drug lists into living, mnemonic-rich characters, Top 100 Drugs: CPhT Edition makes pharmacology memorable-even fun-for students aiming to pass their certification exams and thrive as pharmacy technicians.

Molecular Mechanisms and Biological Procedures of Biomaterials in Medical Applications

Yi,Zhang  著
Mdpi AG 出版
2025/06/23 出版

Biomaterials have emerged as a potentially powerful paradigm in clinical medicine due to their unique physicochemical properties such as topographical cues, charges, etc. Many efforts have been made to explore various avenues to process tailored nanomaterials for medical applications, including regenerative medicine, therapeutic delivery, and additive manufacturing. Intriguingly, many studies have identified the existence of bio-nano interactions, which play important roles in biological procedures. Furthermore, biomaterials with diverse physical and/or chemical characteristics will induce different biological effects. However, their detailed mechanisms are unclear. The translational application of biomaterials for clinical medicine is still in progress. Here, the molecular mechanisms and biological procedures of biomaterials in medical applications include the technologies for processing biomaterials, techniques for characterizing physiochemical properties and analyzing bio-nano interactions, biological behaviors and mechanisms, indications for medical applications etc. This Special Issue of the Journal of Functional Biomaterials, entitled "Molecular Mechanisms and Biological Procedures of Biomaterials in Medical Applications", aimed to collect articles on topics that included, but were not limited to, biological procedures induced by biomaterials, interactions between biomaterials and biological cells, medical applications of biomaterials etc.
