Surrounded by Idiots

Essentials 出版
2020/07/01 出版

Do you ever think you're the only one making any sense? Or tried to reason with your partner with disastrous results? Do long, rambling answers drive you crazy? Or does your colleague's abrasive manner rub you the wrong way? You are not alone. After a disastrous meeting with a highly successful entrepreneur, who was genuinely convinced he was 'surrounded by idiots', communication expert and bestselling author, Thomas Erikson dedicated himself to understanding how people function and why we often struggle to connect with certain types of people. Surrounded by Idiots is an international phenomenon, selling over 1.5 million copies worldwide. It offers a simple, yet ground-breaking method for assessing the personalities of people we communicate with - in and out of the office - based on four personality types (Red, Blue, Green and Yellow), and provides insights into how we can adjust the way we speak and share information. Erikson will help you understand yourself better, hone communication and social skills, handle conflict with confidence, improve dynamics with your boss and team, and get the best out of the people you deal with and manage. He also shares simple tricks on body language, improving written communication, advice on when to back away or when to push on, and when to speak up or shut up. Packed with 'aha!' and 'oh no!' moments, Surrounded by Idiots will help you understand and communicate with those around you, even people you currently think are beyond all comprehension. And with a bit of luck you can also be confident that the idiot out there isn't you!

Real Estate Investing

Publishdrive 出版
2026/02/05 出版

Real Estate Investing: A Beginner's Guide to Rental Income and Long-Term Wealth presents an introductory overview of how real estate can be used to generate returns through rent, appreciation, or a combination of both, with attention to the practical decisions that shape outcomes. It outlines core concepts such as property types (residential, commercial, industrial), active versus passive investing, and common limitations and risks that affect real estate transactions and ongoing ownership. The book is written for first-time and early-stage investors who want a structured starting point before committing capital, including readers evaluating rental properties and those comparing real estate with other investment options. It uses a practical, step-by-step approach rather than a narrative format, focusing on planning, decision-making, and basic operating considerations. Topics include essential terminology (REITs, leverage, diversification, partnerships, and related concepts), a staged investment procedure from clarifying funds availability and investment motives to selecting a target market and criteria, and an introduction to financing and capital management. It also covers property selection methods, ways to improve property returns through cost control and operational choices, and pre-investment checks such as profitability, liquidity, tax considerations, and fraud awareness.

So You Want to Start a Hedge Fund

Ted,Seides  著
Wiley 出版
2026/02/04 出版

Helpful, Accessible Guidance for Budding Hedge Funds So You Want to Start a Hedge Fund provides critical lessons and thoughtful insights to those trying to decipher the industry, as well as those seeking to invest in the next generation of high performers. This book foregoes the sensational, headline-grabbing stories about the few billionaire hedge fund managers to reach the top of the field. Instead, it focuses on the much more common travails of start-ups and small investment firms. The successes and failures of a talented group of competitive managers--all highly educated and well trained--show what it takes for managers and allocators to succeed. These accounts include lessons on funding, team development, strategy, performance, and allocation. The hedge fund industry is concentrated in the largest funds, and the big funds are getting bigger. In time, some of these funds will not survive their founders and large sums will get reallocated to a broader selection of different managers. This practical guide outlines the allocation process for fledgling funds, and demonstrates how allocators can avoid pitfalls in their investments. So You Want to Start a Hedge Fund also shows how to: Develop a sound strategy and raise the money you need Gain a real-world perspective about how allocators think and act Structure your team and investment process for success Recognize the patterns of successful start-ups The industry is approaching a significant crossroads. Aggregate growth is slowing and competition is shifting away from industry-wide growth, at the expense of traditional asset classes, to market share capture within the industry. So You Want to Start a Hedge Fund provides guidance for the little funds--the potential future leaders of the industry.

The Wrong Kind of Expert

Ian,Richards  著
2026/01/27 出版

Most investment advice comes from the wrong kind of expert.Financial advisers, finance professors, accountants, and bank managers all have strong opinions about how you should invest in stocks. They'll tell you to diversify broadly, buy index funds, focus on the long term, and trust the process. There's just one problem: most of them have never successfully invested their own money in individual stocks. Their advice reflects their professional training and regulatory constraints-not what actually works in the real world. What if you approached stock investing differently? After selling my accounting software business in 2013, I became a full-time investor by necessity.I immersed myself in studying the methods of the world's greatest investors-Warren Buffett, Charlie Munger, Peter Lynch, and others who had actually built fortunes through stock investing. I combined their wisdom with my own business experience to develop a practical approach that made sense in the real world. The result? Average annual returns of over 35% since 2013.This is the approach I share in The Wrong Kind of Expert. In this book, you'll discover: Why conventional wisdom about diversification and index funds often leads to mediocre returnsHow to evaluate stocks the way successful business owners evaluate businesses-by understanding what actually creates valueThe lessons from history's most successful investors, and how to apply them todayWhy most professional investors underperform the market, and what you can do differentlyHow to avoid the psychological traps and emotional mistakes that destroy returnsThe critical difference between price and value, and why this distinction is essentialReal-world examples of investment decisions and what they reveal about effective investingThis isn't academic theory. It's practical guidance from someone who's done it.I don't manage other people's money. I don't sell financial products. I don't earn commissions on trades. I have nothing to sell you except the information in this book-the same approach that's built substantial wealth for me over the past decade. The advice in these pages is fundamentally different from what you'll hear from financial professionals. I learned from investors who actually made money, not from textbooks written by academics. I think about stocks as a business owner, not as a finance professional calculating risk metrics.Business owners think about value, growth, competitive advantages, and long-term prospects. Financial professionals think about asset allocation, risk-adjusted returns, and portfolio optimization. One of these approaches consistently makes money. The other keeps financial professionals employed.Who this book is for: This book is for intelligent people who want to take control of their investments but are tired of advice that seems designed to benefit everyone except the investor. It's not a get-rich-quick scheme. It's a thoughtful, common-sense approach to building wealth through stock investing-the kind of approach that works when your own money is at stake. If you're ready to think like a business owner and learn from investors who actually succeeded, this book will show you how.

The Unforgettable You

Kinga,Bali  著
2026/01/25 出版

You did everything right, and you're still invisible. This is the playbook for being seen, respected, and unforgettable. The Unforgettable You is not another personal branding cheerleader. It's a self-coaching reset for professionals who've followed the rules, delivered results, and still get overlooked in rooms where decisions are made. Through 21 clarity-building chapters, you'll dismantle the quiet scripts that keep smart people small: that you need to be louder to be credible, that showing your work is bragging, that you'll be chosen if you just keep your head down and put the work in. You'll learn how to position your work, voice, and value in a way that builds recognition and opens the right doors, online, in interviews, and inside systems that filter people out before they're even seen. This is not a mindset book. It combines neuroscience, narrative strategy, and lived experience from years of helping others rebuild after layoffs, transitions, and systemic underestimation. It's written for fresh starters, mid-career relaunchers, and overlooked experts, especially those who don't want to fake extroversion or build a personal brand empire. This is an introvert-friendly, neurodiverse-aware, research-backed alternative to shouting. This is how you stop shrinking and start being remembered.Access the related free Career Prompt VAULT series at: www.theunforgettable.me/coursesWritten by Kinga Bali, a visibility architect and digital polymath, this book emerges from both research and lived experience. What began as an MBA thesis on executive presence, reputation management and positioning evolved into a body of work shaped by years of guiding others through career pivots, layoffs, and underrecognition. Kinga's own journey, from under-seen contributor to Top Voice, university lecturer, and author, quietly informs every chapter, offering not a system to follow, but a standard to grow into. This is the book that ends up stolen, or coffee-stained, marked, dog-eared, borrowed, left in your bag, because it works. It lives and brews with you. Again. And again.

Navigating Leadership In Chaos

Mohd,Rashid  著
2026/01/18 出版

The purpose of this study was to explore leader perception of leadership characteristics during times of chaotic change, like COVID-19. To explore this, I asked "What are leaders' perceptions of effective leadership characteristics in times of chaotic change?" This study was grounded in the constructs of Narcissistic Leadership, ServantLeadership, and used Q-Sort methodology. Participants were asked to sort 44 servant and Narcissistic Leadership characteristics from most effective to least, within the context of the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Results were analyzed and a three-factor solution emerged. This study showed that not only do leaders perceive both Servant and Narcissistic Leadership characteristics to be effective during times of chaotic change, but also that there are different styles of leadership that can be effective in the context of chaotic change events like the COVID-19 pandemic.

Too Good to Get Hired

Niche Press 出版
2026/01/16 出版

This isn't a book about job searching. It's a survival guide for a system that punishes overqualified job candidates. If you're a professional over 40 - especially over 50 or 60 - you know the job market that once rewarded your experience now penalizes you for it. You've been told you're too experienced, too senior, too educated, or not the right fit. Translation: you're too good to get hired. Today's hiring system is run by algorithms and overseen by young hiring managers who don't want to hire anyone who reminds them of their mom or dad. They don't want to be outshined. Instead, they want safe, compliant, and cheap. But you're not done. You're not obsolete. You just need to understand the rules of how the modern employment system really works and how to win inside it. Too Good to Get Hired decodes the AI filters, biases, and fears that keep the most qualified people unemployed and provides a clear roadmap for turning your experience into an asset and not a liability. You don't need to work harder or dumb yourself down. You just need to reposition yourself. Because it only takes one yes to get into the right job for you
