How the Pandemic Changed Work in Japan
The COVID-19 pandemic swept the globe from 2019 had a major impact on the way people lived and worked. People refrained from going out and, inevitably, the way people worked underwent drastic changes. What kind of working environment enabled people to best adapt to the emergency?Did the pandemic impact urban and rural areas differently? How did the pandemic affect workers with children? This book adopts a thoroughly data-driven approach, relying primarily on data from the Japanese Panel Study of Employment Dynamics by the Recruit Works Institute. The JPSED has been tracking a sample of 50,000 people since 2016, and is thus one of largest of the very few surveys in Japan that has tracked the same individuals since before the pandemic.Eleven scholars and researchers examined the pandemic's impact on working styles and analyzed the data from various perspectives to identify changes in the labor market in Japan, including telework, work-childcare relations, and disparities in employment status, which makes the book a valuable historical testimony of a distinct turning point in Japan's work culture.

Methodological Possibilities for Teaching Physics in Secondary Schools
This research systematizes the results of a qualitative investigation, in the form of research-teaching, according to Martins (2009), based on the concept of theory as an expression of practice. It is guided by the collective systematization of knowledge and its general objective is to understand the contributions of students' study practices in this process of teaching high school physics, with a view to raising indicators for teachers' pedagogical practice and for students' study practices. The students taking part in the research worked on their study practices individually and in groups, based on a pre-established theoretical framework in a high school in the city of Curitiba, Paran獺, Brazil. The pedagogical activities developed emphasized the voice of the subjects, but their main focus was the experience of the study practices of the participating students. The students analyzed and described their study practices, perceiving themselves in the current method of transmission and assimilation. Understanding the practices and their transformations showed the possibility of new social relations for the secondary school classroom in this subject.

Methods and resources for distance learning
With constant technological advances and the emergence of distance learning in the second half of the 20th century, various areas of our society have undergone changes, especially in education. This new constant need for the democratisation of knowledge and continuing training, combined with the use of information and communication technologies, is making it possible to increase access to education significantly. However, in order for distance learning to be more meaningful, it is necessary to have well-designed materials, as they are the main interaction between the course centre (tutor, teacher) and the student, regardless of the form in which they appear: video, CD, text, internet, etc. With this in mind, this book aims to create the conditions for education professionals to develop materials for distance learning courses using Chamilo, a virtual learning environment that makes it easier for distance learning professionals to manage teaching materials and publish them on the World Wide Web.

Between the REAL and the IDEAL
This work is characterised as an exploratory study focusing on how teachers are perceived in today's society, analysing the importance of their image through the social representativeness formulated and reflected in the school environment. Data collection took place in a public secondary school in Pernambuco/Brazil through its students. The data collection procedure consisted of two stages: The first stage of the research consisted of an exploratory nature with the aim of offering a general explanation of the topic through delimitation of the study and a bibliographical survey. The second stage of the research consisted of the application of questionnaires, the results of which were exported to SPSS software. The aspects investigated about the real and ideal teacher were based on analyses of the teachers' personal and personality characteristics, relationships and professional characteristics. The data collected showed that in the students' perception these aspects are interconnected, and it is not possible to conceive of them separately.
Reflections on the school habitus of primary school students
This book has been organised with the aim of disseminating the data relating to a Master's research project, the object of which is the school habitus of primary school pupils. The research is part of discussions on the process of schooling, in the relationship that is established between the school habitus, the practices of teachers and the students' families. The study is based on the concept of habitus from Pierre Bourdieu's theory. The question is: what is the contribution of out-of-school tasks mediated by the family and the school in the constitution of the school habitus of primary school children and its consequences for the pupils' schooling process? Thus, this research offers contributions to expanding knowledge about the characteristics of the school habitus of primary school students; whether this habitus is related to success in school performance and to what extent the family and the teacher contribute to the realisation of this habitus and its contributions to the success of the students' schooling. It is hoped that the results will contribute to future reflections on improving the schooling process through the school habitus.

Computational Thinking
With the concept of computational thinking as a core element, the proposed paper critically inventories the main directions in the literature, focusing on the shift from psychology - pedagogy to mathematics - computer science.Redefined in 2006, the concept is now at the peak of research and applications for pre-school and school children. It is no coincidence that two years ago computational thinking was introduced as an operational element in the Shanghai Compulsory Curriculum; there it was based on the premise that societies are targeting a fulminating economic development through paradigm shifts in teaching and learning on the integration of new computational thinking skills alongside the basic skills - reading, writing and counting. Indeed, "computational thinking is a fundamental skill for everyone, not just computer scientists. To reading, writing and mathematical skills, we should add computational thinking to every child's analytical ability" (Wing, 2006).

50 Unconventional Clinical Careers for Physicians
50 Unconventional Clinical Careers for Physicians: Unique Ways to Use Your Medical Degree Without Leaving Patient Care is a comprehensive guide to exploring alternative paths in clinical medicine.Written by Sylvie Stacy, MD, MPH, author of the best-selling book 50 Nonclinical Careers for Physicians: Fulfilling, Meaningful, and Lucrative Alternatives to Direct Patient Care, (2020) this NEW book is essential for physicians who are looking to move away from traditional clinical practice and explore new avenues in medicine.Conventional medical practice (e.g., traditional group or solo practice, employed by a hospital or healthcare system) sometimes leaves physicians feeling unfulfilled, frustrated, burned out, and undervalued - especially as healthcare corporations are increasingly not owned by physicians, as the scope of work of advanced practice providers increases, and as administrative burdens on physicians increase. However, many physicians don't realize the alternatives that are available to them. Many feel "stuck" in the type of practice they are displeased with. Others feel that they must leave medicine entirely. This book will advise them of a happy medium: uncommon and atypical types of clinical practices. Each chapter includes general information about the career area, what physicians do in this type of work, and what makes it unconventional. The chapter also covers options for employers or practice types and how to get into this type of career. Each section also includes an interview with a physician who practices in that area, providing readers with a real-world perspective on these careers. As a bonus, part 3 of the book covers how to transition to an unconventional clinical practice. It provides information on gaining the necessary knowledge and skills, making a career change, starting an unconventional clinical practice, and succeeding in an unconventional role. It also addresses legal considerations, including malpractice and laws and regulations that may come into play.50 Unconventional Clinical Careers for Physicians provides a comprehensive overview of alternative paths in medicine and covers everything from why a physician may want to consider an unconventional career to how to transition to an unconventional clinical practice. The book is written in an accessible and engaging style and designed to augment the actionable advice from the author. Inclusion on Purpose
How organizations can foster diversity, equity, and inclusion: taking action to address and prevent workplace bias while centering women of color. Few would disagree that inclusion is both the right thing to do and good for business. Then why are we so terrible at it? If we believe in the morality and the profitability of including people of diverse and underestimated backgrounds in the workplace, why don't we do it? Because, explains Ruchika Tulshyan in this eye-opening book, we don't realize that inclusion takes awareness, intention, and regular practice. Inclusion doesn't just happen; we have to work at it. Tulshyan presents inclusion best practices, showing how leaders and organizations can meaningfully promote inclusion and diversity. Tulshyan centers the workplace experience of women of color, who are subject to both gender and racial bias. It is at the intersection of gender and race, she shows, that we discover the kind of inclusion policies that benefit all. Tulshyan debunks the idea of the "level playing field" and explains how leaders and organizations can use their privilege for good by identifying and exposing bias, knowing that they typically have less to lose in speaking up than a woman of color does. She explains why "leaning in" doesn't work--and dismantling structural bias does; warns against hiring for "culture fit," arguing for "culture add" instead; and emphasizes the importance of psychological safety in the workplace--you need to know that your organization has your back. With this important book, Tulshyan shows us how we can make progress toward inclusion and diversity--and we must start now.
Skilled Migration
Skilled Migration: A Sign of Europe's Divide or Integration? examines the trends, determinants, and impacts of migration of high-skilled workers within the European Union in the past two decades. High-skilled migration, whether internal or international, is largely a symptom rather than a cause of the gaps in labor market and educational opportunities, productivity, welfare, and the quality of institutions across the regions. Free movement within the European Union is an incentive for workers and firms to take advantage of these gaps by moving from low- to high-productivity sectors and regions. This process, however, results in winners and losers depending on the extent of the complementarity and substitutability between migrants and natives and on the capacity of the sending regions to realize benefi ts from return or circular migration and other knowledge spillovers. This study assesses the economic benefits and the costs of skilled migration in the short and long runs, emphasizing the potential implications of a large outflow of highly qualified workers on the economies of the originating regions. This book uses empirical analysis to present recommendations for labor market and education policies and identify effective ways to address the various costs that migration induces among different skill groups within regions that send migrants and those that receive migrants. These methods must also improve cross-country coordination to more effectively unlock the overall benefits of migration.
Arts teaching in Parintins' public schools
The aim of this study was to investigate the current state of art teaching in school education in some schools in the municipality of Parintins, located in the state of Amazonas, and which methodological approaches are used by the teachers who teach it, given that the schools surveyed do not have teachers with a degree in art to teach the subject. The methodology used in this research was a case study, with questionnaires used as a data collection tool. The theoretical basis for this work was Pcn/Arte (1997), Ferraz and Fusari (1992), Barbosa (2008), among others. As a result, it was noted that Art Teaching still faces impasses in the school environment, such as its devaluation as a compulsory curricular subject.
Digital Africa
All African countries need better and more jobs for their growing populations. 'Digital Africa: Technological Transformation for Jobs' shows that broader use of productivity-enhancing digital technologies by enterprises and households is imperative to generate such jobs, including for lower-skilled people. At the same time, broader use can support not only countries' short-term objective of postpandemic economic recovery but also their vision of economic transformation with more inclusive growth. These outcomes are not automatic, however. Mobile internet availability has increased throughout the continent in recent years, but Africa's uptake gap is the highest in the world. Areas with at least 3G mobile internet service now cover 84 percent of country populations averaged across Sub-Saharan Africa, but only 22 percent use such services. The average African business lags in the use of smartphones and computers, as well as more sophisticated digital technologies that catalyze further productivity gains. Two issues explain the usage gap: the affordability of these new technologies and the willingness to use them. For the 40 percent of Africans below the extreme poverty line, mobile data plans alone would cost one-third of their incomes--in addition to the price of access devices, apps, and electricity. Data plans for small and medium businesses are also more expensive than in other regions. Moreover, shortcomings in the quality of internet services--and in the supply of attractive, skill-appropriate apps that promote entrepreneurship and raise earnings--dampen people's willingness to use them. For those countries already using these technologies, the development payoffs are significant. New empirical studies for this report add to the rapidly growing evidence that mobile internet availability directly raises enterprise productivity, increases jobs, and reduces poverty across Africa. To realize these and other benefits more widely, Africa's countries must implement complementary and mutually reinforcing policies to strengthen both consumers' ability to pay and willingness to use digital technologies. These interventions must prioritize productive use to generate large numbers of inclusive jobs in a region poised to benefit from a massive, youthful workforce--one projected to become the world's largest by the end of this century.
